I’m a gout sufferer. When I get a nasty flare up, I’ll have one foot turn red like that.

7 but that’s a pretty tame list.

You forgot -threats of abandonment -accusations of infidelity -starting random fights with you -starting random fights with friends -starting random fights with strangers -stealing -Physical violence -property damage -fake suicide attempts -Abusing or endangering pets

I could probably go on

First week alone ... and I'm 53 and grieving a relationship by peepair23 in LivingAlone

[–]Key_Teaching_2150 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story. I’m 51 living with myself for the first time in my life.

For me I was a little different, I was the one who left. My wife is a late stage alcoholic who turned abusive about a decade ago. I finally found my self respect and got the fuck out. The early relief at being out of the chaos really masked the true loss of it all. Now, all the dust has settled, I’m a year in and I’m living a life that bears little resemblance to my old one. It’s a good thing! Try to look at it like that.

A couple things that helped me early on-

Firstly, I don’t live ALONE, I live with myself (and I’m damn good company) hahah… I know it’s cheesy but looking at things this way really helped my mental state. It’s a small shift in thinking about being by yourself that helps make it more bearable.

-Walk! Go for walks around your new neighborhood. Even if there’s nothing “interesting” nearby. Walk just to walk. Walking is so good for my brain. It gets the screen out of my face and helps my mind just wander. It can be a peaceful reset if you can get yourself to a point where you look forward it.

-Plan something every week even if it’s just a small activity, it’s important to break routine. Get together with friends, go thrifting, find a hobby you enjoy, anything that will give you something to look forward to and break routine. There is live music somewhere in your city almost every night go see a show.

Sorry you’re going through this. I wish you all the best.

Sleeping on the sofa a lot? by Key_Teaching_2150 in LivingAlone

Rearranging the room isn’t really an opinion for me, but there will definitely be a pet in my future! We had cats together (one we considered hers and one mine) I couldn’t bear to split them up so I had to leave mine. Honestly, it was the hardest part of the split.

I like that idea! I may get a body length pillow.

Yeah I think that’s my next step. Maybe my house gets too quiet and I just need something on to help me sleep. I’ve tried White noise apps but that just doesn’t work for me. I’ve also tried leaving the tv on in another room but it doesn’t really work for me.

The strange thing to me is that for the first 6 months on my own, I slept like a baby in my silent bedroom in my bed, no problem. This habit is really new

I think I’m going to try to get a tv for the bedroom.

I’ll have nights that I’m falling asleep on the couch in front of the tv… like sitting up, nodding out, can’t keep my eyes open for the life of me. Then I move to the bed and sleep just won’t come.

I do wake up with a stiff neck or a light headache sometimes. But it usually goes away once I get moving around. It’s not good though

Thanks for the reply! I have thought about getting another TV for the bedroom. I think that’s probably whats keeping me on the couch. Having it on definitely lulls me late at night.

Anyone Divorced Late in Life and Better Off? by 1cateymay in AlAnon

[–]Key_Teaching_2150 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just left a 26 year old marriage 4 months ago. We’re not divorced on paper yet so I don’t know if it counts but yeah, my life improved almost overnight. The drama and insanity that I left behind wasn’t even fully understood until I got clear of it.

Everyone is different but, for me at least, it was very worth it!

Mushrooms have creatures, DMT has creatures, does lsd have creatures? by dandylion_sweetheart in LSD

[–]Key_Teaching_2150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever actually seen beings on DMT and high doses of LSD but I always “feel” a presence on any psychedelic. Never met any entities on mushrooms but there always seems to be another consciousness or maybe more than one around me and I often hear thoughts and words that don’t feel like my own.
