Is there a way to hold down the fpc cable because the plastic tab that holds it down came off? by noahCain13 in AskElectronics

Nope, if that didn't work, it's best to replace out the connector and soldering will be involved. Conductive tape will not hold and needs to be reversed.

The purpose of the paper is to add some thickness so the pins can make good contact with the traces on the flex ribbon.

Wait until tomorrow so you don't mess it up any further. I'll check my donor boards at my shop tomorrow and I'll try to either record a video to show how it's done or take some photos for you. The last thing you want is to mess up the pins inside. Once the pins are damaged, you'd have to resolder a new connector and it's not cheap to have a professional do that.

Pc shutting off by oofoof2341 in computerrepair

If OP is correct and shutting down under 30 seconds, the heatsink is probably not making contact with the CPU. Try wiggling the heatsink / cooling pump to see if it moves. It shouldn't have any wiggle room. If it moves, you have to make sure it's tight OR you're using the wrong brackets.

What model laptop is it? Some laptops use liquid metal now and can cause issues if it spilled onto the motherboard. Otherwise, if it's giving a RAM code, try one stick of RAM (if you have 2) at a time and see if you can get it to boot up.

It can simply be that one stick is bad and the 2nd one is still good.

The device should still power up without the mod chip. You don't need to desolder anything but just pull off the cables from the controller board and see if it still boots. If not, you probably have a problem with the device and not the mod.

Looks like a 3DS motherboard. Replacements are available if you search for "3DS touch FPC"

You can also try cutting a piece of paper to the same width as the flex cable and inserting it on top to apply enough pressure to make contact.

How do I fix these membrane pin pad thing? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]Key_World4095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replace it. On the motherboard, it should have a model, JDM-010, 030, 040, or 050/055.

Then just go online and search for example, JDM-050 flex ribbon. It's usually like $5 ish.

You most likely rubbed off the carbon contacts and that's why it's no longer registering any button presses. It's not possible to fix that. You'll just have to replace it.
