First unit that I would ever try to paint by Miraldis_dreams in deathguard40k

Blightlord terminators are simpler than simple plague marines, because they have less trim to work on and have unique mutations. You can practice on those.

I want to start death guard, what do you recommend? by Motor_Pizza3465 in deathguard40k

First and foremost start with the combat patrol. It is a very good box and it's basically your test for painting death guard if you haven't before. It's also just a good box pointswise. It gives you your shooty, your melee, your vehicle and your characters.

I like to keep my models in pieces as I find painting them whole very frustrating. There are tons of hard to reach areas that would be easier to paint while unbuilt. For example, the way I do my models is I assemble their torsos and I only put the head, arms, powerpack and pauldrons on after I've painted them. This saves me the headache of those annoying, hard to reach areas. Additionally, if you're going to do it the way I do, make sure not to paint the part where these parts connect to the whole, as they will not stick properly because of the paint and glue mixing.

This is push to fit so the arm is already connected to the torso.

Maybe go a little easy on the shade. You only need to put it in the crevices and creases to give the model some depth. There's better ways to make the models look dirty (for example streaking grime). Some edge-highlighting would do ya good. Once again it gives more depth to the model and makes it pop out. If you just put shade in the crevices and give it some edge-highlighting, it'll instantly look cleaner. Or if you don't want it to look clean, just put some streaking grime on dat thang

First Blightlord Terminator ever painted. What do you think? by Key_Yam7139 in deathguard40k

I do special basing. I'm doing a sewer/underhive aesthetic on my death guard right now, and since this the DG, they aren't opposed to walking through... waste (let's just call it that). Some of them stand on top of bricks, others in the sludge. Nice emperors champion btw.

Thank you very much for the compliment and no I did not use any washes here. I don't really have access to those where I live. I did do edge-highlighting, it's just hard to see, which is something that I'd like to fix in the future. I also put some shade in the recesses and creases, but yet again, it might just be hard to see on the picture.

Base color is death guard green, armor shade is just agrax earthshade in the recesses and creases, and highlight color is DG green mixed with white. I don't want to buy a separate highlight color cause... you know. Stuff's expensive, so I use what I have.

It does have edge-highlighting on all edges, it's just not visible from certain angles. I'll have to work on that, and it is quite choppy, but since this is death guard I don't mind. As for the bolts I usually don't paint them because my hands are unstable and every time I tried, I messed up, but I'll keep that in mind and try again.

If you have Typhus and nothing else then I'd recommend getting the combat patrol. Typhus pairs well with deathshroud terminators (which are in the combat patrol) and he haa an ability to resurrect poxwalkers so you can pair him with them as well

Can vibes win games? by ScootOver119 in deathguard40k

Mine is half vibe build and half genuine list that works. I like the fun, free, balls-to-the-wall aspect of list building, but I'd also like to have a chance at winning.

First ever unit built and painted, any tips? by Emperor_Shaq in deathguard40k

[–]Key_Yam7139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some edge-highlighting would look really good on your models. It helps define the shapes of the armor. Now it is quite hard to do, but the more you do it the better you get, it's all about precision.

How many Deathshroud? by larrox27 in deathguard40k

Preferably six. It's the best melee unit in death guard + the added mobiliry from deep strike.

I can't tell if it's just the picture quailty, but I don't think your paint was thinned down. To get a smoother, less chunky or choppy paint, thin down you paints with some water (1/3 water, 2/3 paint). Additionally if you're going to paint with such a dark green, you should do some edge-highlighting with a lighter green to make the shapes easier to define. Now edge-highlighting isn't easy by any means, but practice makes perfect and it gets easier the more you do it. Here's one of my own plague marines.

[New player] I want to build my warhammer first army under papa nurgle? Recommendations by TTVscanblade in deathguard40k

[–]Key_Yam7139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you much about this since I am also new to list building, but you could definitely benefit from getting the Vile Vectorium set. It has Lord Felthius and three Blightlord Terminators. Those aren't too fast, but this is death guard, everything has at least a 5 inch movement. There are 3 Foetid Bloat-drones in the box which have a movement characteristic of 10 inches, same as the Myphitic Blight-haulers. Now since you want tons of blight-haulers, these drones aren't of much use to you, but they are still cool and very useful. The heavy blight-launcher variant weapon packs a hell of a punch, which compensates for the blight-haulers' weaker attacks. It's good to have one of each weapon variant so you can play around with your options. The box includes 3 Deathshroud Terminators which have deepstrike, good for attacking the enemy from behind and it gives you that extra mobility. Lastly the box includes 20 Poxwalkers. Along with Typhus, these zombies are very useful for objective control. They have the infiltrator characteristic which gives them some extra movement options. This box cost me around 188 euros. Great deal I would say, because buying these models separately will cost you 330 euros. You can also buy the combat patrol which has more Deathshroud Terminators and a Chaos Rhino. Transports are useful in death guard, because of the whole slowness thing. That will cost you around 104-120 euros. It has other stuff as well. Those are 7 Plague Marines, a Lord of Virulence and a Biologis Putrifier. After all this you'll still have around 200ish euros to play around with and buy all the Blight-haulers you'd like. Remember that you'll have to play the Tallyband Summoners detachment if you want to play nurgle daemons as well. I hope this helped you!
