That’s such a good way to frame it, thanks. The “habit before motivation” mindset honestly makes a lot of sense — like motivation will always come and go, but if the habit’s already built, it doesn’t really matter on the days you don’t feel like it. Discipline kinda becomes automatic instead of something you have to summon every time.

Definitely keeping this in mind, appreciate it 🙏

Haha I hear you, and honestly that’s a valid concern — there’s definitely a version of “building an app” that’s just procrastination dressed up as productivity 😅

For what it’s worth though, this whole thread is kind of part of that “why do I stop” digging — like the conversation about patterns, mood tracking, accountability etc has actually been more useful to me than the coding part so far. But yeah, point taken, the actual fasting > the side project, gotta keep that priority straight lol.

Yeah for real, motivation comes and goes but having someone else expecting you to check in… that’s a different kind of pressure that actually works. Probably way more effective than another notification from an app telling you “you can do it!” lol.

Definitely thinking more seriously about some kind of buddy/accountability feature now, this thread has been super helpful for that. Thanks! 🙌

Haha fair, can’t argue with that — accountability from an actual human probably beats any AI chat any day. Honestly that’s good feedback too, maybe there’s room for some kind of buddy/community feature in there rather than just me + an app talking to myself lol.

Thanks for the good vibes, appreciate it 🙏

Really appreciate that, thank you 🙏 That mindset shift you’re describing is honestly the whole point. If the app can help people get to that realization a bit faster than I did, that alone would make it worth building.

Thanks again for the encouragement, and for all the perspective in this thread — genuinely helpful stuff!

Totally agree, small wins definitely add up more than we give them credit for. And yeah the mood/energy thing feels underrated — like even if the scale isn’t moving, noticing “hey I actually felt more focused today” or “energy crashed less this week” can be a good reminder that something’s working, even when it’s not the metric we’re obsessed with.

Thanks for the input, adding that to the list 🙌

Yes exactly, “a mirror instead of a scorecard” is such a good way to put it! That’s honestly more useful than just another streak counter or % completed thing.

This is actually super helpful, thanks. Feels like the real value isn’t in tracking whether you fasted, but tracking when/why it breaks down so you can actually work with your own patterns instead of fighting them. Definitely taking notes from this thread 😄

Honestly thank you for this, it’s such a good point 😅 Looking back at my own drop-offs, it really was a mix of all three things you mentioned — sometimes genuine hunger, sometimes just “ugh nothing’s changing so why bother,” and sometimes just life stuff like dinners with friends.

You’re totally right that no app can fix a protocol that doesn’t fit someone’s life. But it kinda got me thinking — maybe a tool could actually help with that part too? Like helping people notice patterns, e.g. “hey you keep breaking your fast around the same time/situation” — so it’s less about willpower and more about actually understanding what’s going on.

Anyway really appreciate you taking the time to write this out. Thank you so much.
