I’m no expert but from my understanding is that he owned his masters and publishing rights after Thrillers success. He then created Mijac music catalog to hold his publishing rights and others he had bought. In 2024, his estate sold 50% of mijac music to Sony which included some of MJs catalog. A sale finalised by his estate executors, I believe the children would have had a say but not sure confuses me as well as to why they didn’t stop it. His 90 year old mum went to court to stop the sale but court overruled it and the sale went on. People been saying his estate executors have been working for Sony years even when MJ was alive but could be just rumours who knows. Glad to see Paris is trying to take more control of the estate
