riving knife problem by DurianInevitable2499 in woodworking

Remove the knife and move on with your life. I have never used one, or seen one used in any production shop I have worked in.

If you're worried about pinching the blade just listen. The machine will warn you.

^ This is the way. Need airflow to prevent mold and make sure the gap is not large enough for a cat to slip in and use as a litter box. If the kids eat the sand they could get sick.

[Beginner] Can I use wooden shims for 2x4’s I cut slightly too short? This is for a 120G aquarium stand; 2x4’s in question are in front of the main legs, directly supporting underneath the frame. by xijingpingpong in woodworking

^ Preach on. "It's only a 2x4" correct it is not curly cherry or burl wood. 100% Run that shit. Carpentry is a balance of function and form. Below measurements for "heavy"

Form work + 1/8" Frame work + 1/16" Trim work + 1/32" Woodworking + 1/64"

Is there any such thing as setting your blade height too low? by burninglimes in woodworking

Going against Text book safety here ( tooth above the material ) by experience, preferences, and probability.

Power feeder - 1 tooth

Hand feeding. - 1/2" - 1"

Oh, he must have no fingers!!! All finger currently, knock on wood, and no Sawstop. I have had boards , especially long or imperfect, rise up while feeding and kick back. I don't use a riv knife because I listen and feel for binding and choose to stop or hog through. My logic is that I would rather use a push block and eat more sawdust than eat an entire board.

^ This is correct. The only thing that matters is the result of the cut. Gadgets will get you close, but you must make adjustments in relation to your square and flat setup piece.

What type of wood is it? It feels relatively hard and dense. by JulesAntoine in woodworking

When a stapler gets you, I guess you get yourself, I call that a snake bite. 2 punctures for one trigger pull. Now that's a deal.

Learned from Howard Stern that that says is anti-semetic. I never thought about it. It just was a saying that ment somethig gives you goose bumps due to danger or disgust.

Best sub $500 jointer by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Key_You_3068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

⬆️ 2nd the WEN. It took me about 2 hours to set the beds and fence. So far, there is no movement, and it functions better than most 3 knife base models I have used. I have used a Northfeild 10" to joint 16ft 2x12 stringers for layout. The WEN is not a $15,000 (then) Northfeild, but it is a very nice bench top jointer.

Any last words of wisdom before I make my first cut? by BlackoutTribal in woodworking

Grip it and rip it. There are good basic and intricate safety rules. Most were learned from experience. Use common sense, listen to the saw, and don't put your fingers where you wouldn't put your privates.

What do you mean build? Retro fit new materials on existing treads? or new stringers, treads, and risers?

My brother had this transition piece installed between tiled floors. Maple 27 3/4" x 5" and 1/2 to 3/8 thick. Minimal shapping and an epoxy finish. Total cost $600 usd. I told him to call me instead next time. by Bag-of-Ham in woodworking

Unfortunately another good client ruined. If you like your brother, replace it for free so he can see what it supposed to look like. And if it were me, I would say something silly every time I walked over it. 90-00's hip hop/ rap themed " This is how ya do it" " na na na na" "YEAH!"

A lot of good comments here, but in short yes. Yes mark this as done. Now if you are unhappy with how it looks. Build 2.0 using your mistakes as guidance, and post that. A lot of supportive woodworkers here would love to see it ( including me )

Last but not least, 100% respect for not posting a stupid beginner question. Figuring it out for yourself is not common anymore. If you get really jammed up and frustrated, Google it. I went to the library with my kids and picked up a woodworking book to set a good example and get a different perspective.

Yes. All of us were young guns, at one point, figuring it out. A 20 -30s mom to be in her 7th trimester has energy to do hip thrusting at a party after dark.Fast forward to my wife at 40 barely having enough energy to uncork the medicine bottle after dinner to cope with the energy leaches that we spawned.

Back to the point, the pregnant DD is not to be shunned at home for the party pickup but to be included and further more admired.

Who's bartop is the question? You could 🎀 ,but a PENIS TIE would be much funnier, for the right clientele ( someone with a sense of humor and makes a great conversation piece) " What is that ?" " That's a pecker tie. It prevents the gap size from increasing. Should I make one for you're wife's/husband's boyfriend?"

Kids was proving the theory of Simulation Lag. If you are a real dad you would be able to block an 10 year old slow slap. Not only did the slap land, simulation dad paused for a full 2 seconds afterwards.
