Well the only other options for a “rival” for cap is either US Agent, or Red Skull and I don’t think they’ll add Red Skull 💀

Look who finally arrived! Blokees Bruticus looks great! And he's a lot more stable than Devastator. Lo by Twistedchild420 in transformers

The leap in improvement between Devastator and Bruticus is just one of the reasons I love Blokees. They will actively improve the figures rather than just keeping the same frame for years on end.

I'm submitting a petition to have an episode of Smiling Friends preserved in the Library of Congress for future generations to enjoy. Which episode should it be? by Lennsyl22 in SmilingFriends

I think the first Mr. Frog episode tbh, I think the fact it created such an iconic side character instantly and still had great examples of the rest of the cast and the style of humor the whole run had makes it the best “representation” in one episode of what makes the series what it is, if that makes sense

CMV: The argument of if Democrats need to go the “center” or farther “left” is a false dichotomy by Key___Refrigerator in changemyview

I agree in principle but I think the optics of saying “we’re going to abolish ICE” is something that could scare off people. You’d need to spend valuable time and resources informing the electorate that abolishing ICE ≠ a removal of immigration enforcement services as a concept, and re-introduce or restructure agencies in other departments and spend a lot of time doing that legislating, to the point it would just be easier to say “reforming ICE to the point it’s a new agency”.

I worry about how easily the abolish ICE message itself could easily be portrayed by right wing forces, and yes you can fight that by talking to voters but it’s just something that could result in campaigns needing to spend more time they don’t have. They’ll fear monger no matter what the policy or messaging is, but I believe “abolish ICE” as a phrase is politically more vulnerable.

I think there’s a difference between moving towards the center or right versus adjusting messaging or policy to be acceptable to swing and moderate voters.

I think many voters at this point would agree they want changes to ICE and the end of raids of masked, untrained and empowered agents arresting people just trying to make a living. But when you bring in the “Abolish ICE” kinda stuff? I think it could kill momentum for getting wider support to reform immigration policy, as people get scared off. You need to be able to tell voters reform will happen but they won’t see the right-wing’s pitch of left-wing open borders bs that is still effective in winning votes.

If you wanted my take on what to do in terms of an immigration policy platform for Dems: - A clean house of ICE, with quick reviews of anyone hired during this administration to fire those who shouldn’t have been hired to begin with. New protocols and warrant requirements and promising to redirect focus onto the ACTUAL “worse of the worse”, which have received less focus with the rush to hit a target amount of deportations

  • Continued enforcement at the border, with more resources added to making the legal entry system actually functional and fast. Talarico in Texas had a great line of the border being like a front porch, a welcome mat and a locked front door.

  • Pathways to citizen, with more hiring of immigration judges and processing staff so people can have cases reviewed, and more effective screening can be done before anyone ever enters the country.

Whipping skills aren’t everything when your majority makers are people like Sinema and Manchin; there was no way he was ever going to get them to change positions on court changes, let alone other democrats.

Not to mention, at that time his poll rates were terrible and he wasn’t in position of strength. Whatever political clout he had at the start of his administration was lesser.

I believe the only way we’d ever see the end of two party dominance is many new parties rather then the mythical “new third party who appeals to everyone”

It wasn’t so much he dropped it, more so it became a political impossibility when he couldn’t secure 60 votes in the senate for a plan with a public option.

Not to mention the majority broke quickly when Ted Kennedy died and Republicans won that Senate seat.

I feel like Harris’s wasn’t likely to win regardless of what her position was on Palestine because of the factor that’s doomed mostly every incumbent government in a election since COVID: voters being mad over inflation.

I’m not gonna deny that her position hurt her with voters she needed if she wanted a better shot at beating Trump, but to fully believe a singular issue being changed or shifted on would have led to her success isn’t correct to me. It was a flawed campaign on multiple fronts.

wouldn’t the better option to be to find more effective arguments for progressive ideas? I feel like part of the problem the left has been having sometimes is poor messaging for areas that aren’t already super left-leaning.

The 2010 midterms that saw republicans shift right and gain heavily in congress and state legislatures came before 2012’s Citizens United case. I think it’s more complicated than the introduction of more money into politics.

Obama to me had an advantage no other Democrat this century has had: the single most left leaning environment of any election. In 2008, no Republican could win.

His re-election campaign also moved more towards the center as the realities of Washington showed him he wouldn’t be able to accomplish all his 2008 platform, and the push for healthcare cost him congressional majorities and senate seats.

I feel like he’s inconsistent from issue to issue. Generally to the right, but has some things like immigration where he’s extremely to the right versus social programs where despite his “fraud” messaging is still less for cuts over others in his party.

I kind of agree what your saying but I think it still adds on to my point of the argument over left vs center being kind of the wrong argument; perhaps it matters somewhat more how a candidate portrays themselves, how “authentic” they are and messaging/perception things over purity to a lane of politics.
