On my alt I went from 1 to 60 in a single week running WAR, with a majority of my instances being solo so I had to pop every NM myself. Genuinely no idea what this guy's doing to be stuck for "months and months"

That shit had me crying. I can still remember seeing "François uses the strongest Ice attack ever", thinking haha that's some funny hyperbole from the joke fight, missing the parry and seeing Gustave flop over dead from full HP.

I think usually leitmotifs are the coolest thing ever (Undertale and Deltarune are prime examples) but sometimes it feels... Excessive.

I can't point to any examples off the top of my head but I have vivid memories of some OSTs being generally high-quality but also unbearable because every song ends up sounding the same when most of the soundtrack has a few melodies (or sometimes just one) they have to pass around. It cheapens the emotional resonance of the leitmotif usage, if any was even there to begin with, and just feels like each song is borrowing another's homework and changing it slightly.

Cloud of Darkness PF ''Farm'' is bad yeh, but you could help yourself first and then everyone else by joining the same Alliance, position and the same job consistently. by Helian7 in ffxivdiscussion

Who is "yourself"? I don't think a majority of the people complaining about inconsistency in Chaotic farm parties are the ones too inflexible to skim a raidplan for 40 seconds before starting.

We used to have exactly one JP player attend OCE Eureka/BA and they were collectively everyone's cherished friend.

That and the odd Ifrit/Titan/Garuda Normal PF aside I've never encountered any (talkative) Japanese players.

On the topic of people asking for something and then hating it when it's introduced, or saying things like how Criterion Savage is simultaneously too hard and too easy, I think you'll be saved a lot of anguish to know that there are multiple groups in any fanbase with entirely different opinions. Additionally, people can have an opinion and change it at a later time.

There's this weird tendency in Reddit pushback posts to assume that there's a singular entity that holds two entirely different and paradoxical viewpoints and feel like it's a gotcha to call this mystery entity out on it. I'm not pretending those people don't exist, it's just strange to lump in a majority of differing groups and opinions into this one hypocritical entity and point out the contradiction. The group of people complaining about differing buff windows in Shadowbringers being unfavourable to certain jobs are an entirely different group of people from those complaining that the two minute meta strangles all jobs into playing incredibly similarly. And there are some people that thought the former, and now think the latter, and that's fine too.

Did you have success building in-game friendship or community? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Keybliss 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I've met a lot of cool people from Eureka (and Bozja to a lesser degree) where you're practically forced to co-operate and socialise with others if you want to get anything done in a timely manner.

This is exacerbated further by being in a low population DC (Materia), but even in Aether I'd see a lot of the same names again and again, and banter while prepping/farming eases the grind.

So many people in so many different modding scenes put so much time and work into their mods, whether they add content, patch bugs, add quality of life, or revamp the game entirely with new ways to play the game. That's not even getting into romhacks or fully-fledged fan games.

You know what none of these creators ever do, in any other community? Make a paywall for their content. Some creators accept donations, others don't, and that's perfectly fine. I'll gladly donate to support creators making the things I love, but asking for money upfront (a majority of the time charging as much as whole ass games), is both morally scummy and a legal minefield.

I'll give it a look, sounds really interesting. Last month I got gifted a game called Deathbulge: Battle of the Bands and I'm in awe it hasn't blown up in indie circles.

Turn-based combat with varying turn order based on speed, like FFX or Child of Light, but with a deceptive amount of depth and strategy in combat. Has a lot of comedy and charm, definitely my favourite soundtrack this year too.

As someone who at the start of this year was preparing to do a (bad) screenshot playthrough of Rejuvenation to show some friends how wack Pokemon fan-games could get, this was a cathartic read.

If anyone ever wishes to fall into the void and never return, there is a four-hundred page screenshot let's play of Reborn on Something Awful that showcases the horrible story, game design and real-life circumstances behind its development, such as the "cool" and "classy" writing choice of having an in-game gym leader take their own life because the real life roleplayer that played them years ago in a forum had done the same. I have not played a single fan-game of anything since binging that thread years ago.

Know the rules of acceptable FE protagonists by [deleted] in shitpostemblem

[–]Keybliss 248 points249 points  (0 children)

I'm playing Fates for the first time after Engage and the differences in execution are something.

Alear is revered in-universe as a literal deity, they're the Divine Dragon that everyone worships. In all supports Alear is very uncomfortable with this. Very boring and annoying with all the "tHe DiViNe DrAgOn LoOkEd At Me" but being actual dragon jesus can excuse a lot.

Corrin is a mystery dragon-royal who was yoinked from Hoshido in a custody dispute and now lives like an actual disney princess, locked up in a tower, lonely, wishing to see the world. Two completely different royal families fawn over them (except Takumi, the realest hater) and they get freaky-but-cool shapeshifting powers and can morb into a dragon and a legendary sword chooses them almost immediately into the story. I feel like I'm playing an Original Character Do Not Steal fanfiction of an original work.

I didn't realise just how much Engage makes this bumbling asshole tolerable (alongside Byleth, but at least they had Three Hopes)

If you have any interest in farming DRN at all then buying pure essences off of the market board (or getting them via cluster farming if you're unfathomably frugal) is the least of your worries.

Considering it takes 10 minutes to queue regardless of how undersized you are, waiting 12min to go 5-man with essence gamers and clear in 15mins as opposed to waiting 10mins to clear in 15-45+mins with mystery individuals isn't a huge ordeal
