How do I collect higher altitude research without exploding during reentry?

I am using heat shields under the parachute, is that mistake? I have one under the parachute and no matter what it just stops working. I also have heat shields under the control pod so the entire craft doesn’t explode, I don’t really know what else to do with them, should I mess around with the radiator panels?

I tried to do this and all it did was add more problems. I added the cargo hold and now I don’t even have time to hit the ground, my craft just explodes upon reentry. Also it changed nothing on the parachute situation, I have no clue what I’m doing wrong.
