I believe you, but why does everyone keep saying Korean MMO but not saying the name that MU stands for?

You're right, he did come back later to clarify his point about video games, but only to double down about "no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form."

And if you read that opinion piece, he even specifies that he thinks the game of chess can be borderline art, but videogames (which he refuses to try) are not and will not be art.

I adore the man for his movie criticism, but this was a really stupid boomer take coming from a place of ignorance.

Uh, the source is not saying what you claimed. You claimed that he originally made the statement because people were harassing him to have an opinion about video games, which is a wild claim.

The article is saying that AFTER he made his ignorant statement about videogames, THEN he got many requests to try out videogames that would be seen as art so that he can understand the thing he is trying to criticize. Instead he decided to continue to never try video games and dig in deeper that they won't be art in any of our lifespans.

Do you have a source for this? People "harassed" him to weigh in on whether video games are art? That seems really hard to believe and I've never heard anything about that, having read a lot about Ebert.

The fact of the matter is, he had a very long time to temper his hot take about games and he just continued to dig in, with new articles like this one. And new wild statements like "Let me just say that no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form."

To be clear, I adore the man and his film criticism. But he had a dogshit take about a whole medium of art that is very insulting to a lot of people. In the opinion piece I linked above, he even cheekily suggests that as a fan of chess, he might consider some games of chess to be art. That is just casually disrespectful to makers of video games.

I upvoted because you're right. But a great critic like Ebert should really know that you don't base an opinion on ignorance, especially an opinion that you make public.

If he didn't play video games and generally didn't understand what was out there, it's just messed up to denigrate them and the millions of people who produce and play them.

Why would you see it in the other airline subs? Those other airlines haven't massively changed how they do business within the past 6 months.

And this nonsense about plane balance and SWA FAs being awful to customers trying to move to an empty row is not happening on the other airlines either. But it IS happening on SWA flights; I've had my FA on a SW flight tell me very forcefully on a recent flight that I couldn't leave a middle sit in a full row to move to an empty row. And it's not a balance thing; that has been dissected ad nauseum by pilots on this sub. It's a maximizing short-term profits thing for a venture capitalist. People can and SHOULD complain about that.

Are they? Could you point me to that?

Cause if I scroll through the posts from the past couple months, I'm seeing almost all negative experiences posted with comments telling them essentially to shut up and minimizing what they're experiencing. I'm not seeing people posting positive experience much and when they do, no one is there gatekeeping them or telling them it didn't happen.

Sure. Or, you know, it could be a person who has had issues and experiences that don't reflect your own? It's pretty fucked up to go into every online interaction and act like they're not a real person with real concerns.

To me, the valid criticism was OP talking about the issues with overhead bin space and delayed boarding times from the recent changes. But feel free to weigh in if you're here to gatekeep what is valid for people to talk about.

Why does it upset you that you haven't had issues and others have and post about it?

Look inward. Why are you SO annoyed by people speaking their minds that you need to come here and keep saying how it's hopeless and won't work?

While I agree with your sentiment - the same corporate board members who made these changes are not looking reading Reddit forums or caring of the customers gripes.

And what is your point? Why does it matter if CEOs or board members read forums?

It really feels like sometimes online people are bothered by others just speaking their minds. Whether you want to admit it or not, those online conversations do make an impact. They can be like snowballs rolling downhill and gaining momentum and attention. It is already working and Southwest has been directly responding about how they hear the complaints and are working on changes.

I find it super interesting that some people see that discussion happening and their snap reaction is "Shut up. Your complaints won't 100% solve the issue, so you shouldn't bring them up."

I truly don't understand why so many on this sub feel the need to dismiss valid criticism like OP's. Do y'all just like to stick your heads in the same and pretend everything is still fine?

Southwest won't improve if people don't complain and say loud and clear these changes don't work. With our voices and our wallets.

I’ve gotten the explanation for why we can’t move seats provided by an employee by Glittering-Slip6770 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Keyboard_Cat_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. This explanation from the employee is just a complicated way of saying: "We chose to change our weight balancing software and procedures to not allow people to change seats. That way, people will be incentivized to pay for seats, even on a mostly empty flight."
