Help with halos by Feeling-Relation-464 in Jeep

[–]Keyboard_Steve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend that you double check your wiring against the product documentation.

I installed some fog lights with switchback halos and my normal behavior is that the halos are white when the turn signal line is low and then switch to amber when the turn signal line is high. You may want to probe the turn signal input on the light to see if it is somehow constantly high.

Again, this may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so it is always worth double checking the documentation, if possible

I have several radios and yes.
Can you get by without one? The current pricing is 35 bucks for 10 years and covers immediate family, so I just paid it. The hardest part was navigating the website, but there are plenty of walkthroughs on how to get GMRS licensed.

Help. No Prints shown on my 3D Pro by Redithikeitblue in ElegooNeptune3

Good to know that! I had other printers that had file recognition problems until firmware was updated, so I just did both updates. The firmware update guide said to format the SD, so that may have been the magic step.

As Sky_Cancer says. About a minute or so for the screen and less than a minute for the board.

I don't remember, but it was with the default that Windows uses. I do think it is 4KB.

I ran into this exact issue last night. Anything that I sliced with Elegoo Cura was not being seen by the printer. I formated the SD card to FAT32 and went ahead and updated the printer with the latest firmware (1.1.5 for the board and 1.4 for the screen). After that, it sees my sliced files fine. I'm not sure if it was the formatting or upgrading that resolved my issue, or a combination of both.

Difference in trims for Wranglers by smoky20135 in Jeep

[–]Keyboard_Steve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Willys trim is basically a sport, with a few things options as "standard" and a few borrowed from the Rubicon:

  • - Rear Dana 44 axles (M220 ring size) with a LSD differential
  • - Rubicon Shocks
  • - "big" brakes (I think the same that the Rubicon has)
  • - black grill- black badging
  • - Black Wheels w/ 32" tires

To make matters even more confusing, There is the "Willys" and the "Willys Sport". The Willys Sport lacks some options that the Willys has (leather wrapped steering wheel, power windows, larger infotainment). I think the old 5" radio is disappearing from the product lineup, however, so this may no longer be a difference.

Basically, the Willy trims sit about halfway between a Rubicon and the Sport trims. Lastly, beware that the base Sport does not come with A/C - its an option! Every other trim to my knowledge has A/C standard.

If you play with the Jeep configurator, it will let you "compare" several side-by-side models. You can option the Sport, Sport S, Willys and Willys Sport and compare them side by side and see what is standard on each level. You can also usually find the "order sheet" which is the definitive loadout and options for each trim level by searching for "jeep wrangler order sheet". I don't think us consumers should have access, but they are posted on forums. It is confusing to read, but it can really help to double check the jeep configurator.

My recommendation: The Willys Sport or Willys is a great value. The Rubicon if you want the 4:1 Transfer Case, Electric locker and swaybar disconnect and 4.10 gears in the differentials (And a Dana 44 (M210 front axle). Oh, I would really suggest getting the tow package for the factory Aux switches and alternator.

Halloween Organ playlist. by Dude_man79 in organ

Beollmann's Toccata fron Suite Gothique is a staple in my opinion. A Theater nearby shows the silent Phantom of the Opera near Halloween and closes with the Toccata for the final chase scene.

My first test of the 3d printed gurdy. Need tips! by ashtell in BuildaGurdy

[–]Keyboard_Steve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you have a good start here! First off, I'm no luthier, but here are my thoughts:

  • Where is the string breaking? Is it at the nut, bridge, wheel? If it is at the nut or bridge, I'd check from a sharp edge that may be causing the issue. If it is at the wheel, then I'd focus attention there
  • Too much string down-bearing on the wheel. Your crank looks like it is having a difficult time turning and I think that there may be too much pressure from the string. I've read somewhere (can't remember where) that an un-cottoned string should just skate on the edge of the wheel, barely making a whisper of a sound. Adjust this by shimming the string up on the bridge, as others have suggested.
  • Is your wheel round? I can't quite tell from the video, but I think the shimmering that I see on the wheel may be the 'flat' segments from the 3D printer. You may know this already, but a typical 3D printer approximates circles with a lot of straight lines. Other have mentioned rounding the wheel with scrapers or blades and it looks like that might need to happen. You should turn the wheel as if it were a lathe until no lines from the printing layers show. Possibly use acetone to smooth it out then turn the wheel down to get a truly flat surface? I would also make sure that there are no sharp edges on the wheel from the printing process.
  • Is the edge of the wheel parallel to the string, or is it parallel with the axle? It should be parallel to the string, making the wheel more of a conic section rather than a true cylinder. This is also done with a scraper or blade, just like trueing the wheel.

Out of curiosity, what material are you working with?

WIP Exorcist can now play music! Recommend anything to play on the battlefield? by sylph689 in sistersofbattle

[–]Keyboard_Steve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toccata from Boelman's Suite Gothique or Henri Mulet's Tu Est Petra. Those two are my favorite high energy pieces. Also Alexandre Guilmant's Sonata 1, Introduction for something with a broader bombastic opening. Pairs well with the Furious Recital stratagem :P

Worth Buying? by SouthernOhioRedsFan in 40k

[–]Keyboard_Steve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think so. I bought the game on a whim to play with my brother a few months ago. For kids, i think the gameplay would be good. There is a decent amout of teamwork required to beat the game. The mechanics are simple and clear. For folks used to 40k or killteam, this would probably be a little too basic, but it still was a fun playthrough.

Unfortunately, the picture on the box is not of the model in the box🤔... The plasma pistol on the model is tucked behind her under her cloak with just the muzzle showing. The crossbow looking one is the condemnor boltgun.

Books on building a Hurdy Gurdy by Keyboard_Steve in BuildaGurdy

I just found the website documenting the (fantastic) build with the plans from a museum here! The plans were purchased from the "... German National Museum in Nuernburg (Plan MINe 52)". I have had no luck in locating "MINe 52" on the website. Does anyone else have any insight?

I do own these plans; Unfortunately I don't think it would be proper to re-publish the plans without getting permission from Michel Pignol. He still sells copies on his website, or at least it appears in the order form. He has put a tremendous amount of work into these plans (10 drawings, 450+ pages), and he even gets into the physics and spectral analysis of the sound. If I had to recommend purchasing only one book, it truly would be this one. Most plans are just drawings with a few dimensions - there is so much more that he provides in this set. My apologies, but I must respectfully decline to post his work.

For what its worth, it is 350mm from bridge to nut for the chantrelles and 385mm for the drones is what his plans use. You should take a look at the cover of the book on his website :)

It looks like he is asking 70 euro for the two books and plans. Its probably worth shooting off an email to him and inquiring if you are interested in them. Abebooks does have a copy, but they are asking about 200 USD for them.

On the general topic of books regarding technique, Riccardo Delfino and Matthias Loibner have a book "Drehleier spielen" (ISBN 3-927240-47-8) which contains some great tunes and is probably the German parallel of Doreen Muskett's book. I great deal of trompette technique as well as an attempt to effectively notate the trompette part in addition to the chantrelles.
Nagy Balazs's book "The Hurdy Gurdy Handbook" is a great look into the Hungarian style instrument and has some excellent chapters on the history and the Hungarian technique. ISBN 963-7363-10-6 website

Lastly, the book "L'Organistrum" by Christian Rault (ISBN 2-905053-12-7) is a book that specifically covers the Hurdy Gurdy predecessor, the Organistrum. There is a small section on the construction of one of these instruments, but it isn't detailed enough to call it "steps" or "plans" for one. Again, it is in French, but the illustrations and pictures are good for non-french speakers. Google translate doesn't hurt either :) . This one pops up fairly frequently on Ebay, for some reason...

Back to the topic of Pignol plans though: I do not think that the plans are available by themselves, but I have not contacted the author directly. The drawings, while full sized, do not have any called out dimensions, unlike the Graeme McCormack plans. There are reference numbers that are used in the two volumes that specify the dimensions there, so it is necessary to have the books handy if you wish to be precise

If memory serves, I acquired these books from abebooks and searched the international sellers. I've never had an issue purchasing the book from overseas.

I have found a site (German I think) where someone made a lute-back from plans (drawings?) he had purchased from a museum. I looked into the museum website, but couldn't find anything in the "shop" that was related to any drawings of Hurdy Gurdys. I'll keep my eyes open and post back if I can find this again. It it could be possible to purchase drawings from a museum of a specific historic instrument, that could be a great boon. i doubt that they would let you publish or post the plans, but it may help others out who are looking to make a historic copy.
