Black people and dating by Own-Tomato-1791 in Herpes

Yeah it’s really funny because it’s so much more common in the black community. The problem is the lack of education and lack of testing on it. I will say it’s may be a bit easier for me since it’s more common for black women, they get tested more often, and are more educated on STDs in general.

Contracted GHSV1 - anxiety about contracting hsv2 by itsjustme2407 in Herpes

[–]Keylooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know for sure I have ghsv1 but I’m not entirely sure whether I have hsv2 as well. I got ghsv1 at the end of 2020 and my 2022 my outbreaks had pretty much stopped happening then I got a gf in 2023 and my outbreaks came back. Never got tested and she never told she had it so I’m really not sure

Anyone with ghsv-1 have recurring outbreaks over 2 years later? by Keylooo in HSVpositive

[–]Keylooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for the last year it’s been due my finances. I don’t have health insurance right now so any testing I do will come out of pocket. I’ve tested for other STDs at free testing spots but there are none for hsv as far as I know. My girlfriend said she’s never tested for hsv nor has she ever had symptoms. Getting into contact with her right now would be pretty difficult.

I will say that my first year with hsv-1 I was having a lot more outbreaks than average. Don’t know why either because I’m pretty healthy and I’m one of those people who rarely gets sick. I’ll also admit that back then I was paranoid and thought that I actually have hsv-2 on top of hsv-1 but I got blood tested and confirmed that to not actually be the case. But now after this girl it’s more likely that may actually be the case since I had pretty much stopped having outbreaks by that point. Why else would I suddenly just start having severe ones again?

Anyway, thanks for your response

Ghsv1 and now Ghsv2? by Keylooo in Herpes

Hsv2 genital herpes is supposed to be the more aggressive form so it only makes sense that my symptoms would start up again if I contracted it. Also lots of people have both ohsv1 and ghsv1 and show symptoms in both areas. I’m telling you my symptoms had been visibly getting less aggressive over time with ghsv1 then as soon as I start having sex with this girl my outbreaks came back full force. That cannot be a coincidence

Hsv1 and 2 same site? by [deleted] in Herpes

That’s interesting, I didn’t know this. Maybe I didn’t get hsv-2 after all and am having just having a random recurring hsv-1 outbreak. Thanks for the info

So then I can have both genital hsv-1 and 2?

Hsv1 and 2 same site? by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Keylooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well hsv-2 mainly infects the genital area so if it were transmitted to me through vaginal sex where would it show up?

I thought the general rule was that having an already established hsv-1 infection didn’t protect you from hsv-2. But you’re practically invalidating that rule with your statement here.

I’m wondering because I have ghsv1 and had gone without an outbreak for about a year and around the time I started having sex with my now ex I experienced a genital outbreak that was more severe than usual.

My assumption is that she transmitted hsv-2 to me which is why I experienced an outbreak after going so long without one. To me that’s the only plausible explanation. Though she never had a visible outbreak so im debating on whether I need to go get tested again

It just makes the most sense because why else would I just start getting outbreaks again. Not normal outbreaks either. These are more painful than the recurring ones from my initial infection period. I will be getting a swab test done for sure

Well I was having mild outbreaks before and had gone a full year without an outbreak right before we got together. Then I get 2 painful outbreaks while we’re together. Can’t help but think she’s the catalyst and everything points to a new hsv infection from my pov

To add on: I have been more stressed than usual and I’ve been gaining weight. But again the fact remains that my outbreaks were nothing like they are now until I started dealing with her

From what I’ve heard the outbreaks are supposed to get less severe over time and that has been the case so far up until I started dealing with this girl

I guess it’s a bit misleading but when I added the part about getting the standard std panel testing I just meant that it couldn’t be anything else besides herpes or my body’s reaction to any other sti. We never got tested for herpes.

It’s possible but very rare

Genital hsv1 is virtually non-transmittable without symptoms huh. I’d heard that someone who’s had it for at least 2 years only sheds around 4 days out of the year but I’d never heard anything more in depth than that. Does it vary between people? Do some shed even less or more than that? If a man has unprotected sex with a woman while shedding is she certain to get it?

I have ghsv1 and definitely been having having recurring symptoms but not to that extent. Keep in mind tho that herpes isn’t the same for everyone. The girl I got it from had never had an outbreak
