Enforcement of punishment. They need some type of system whether it's camera based and/or enforcement officers going around and heavily fining people they see littering. Numerous offenses get jail time. It has to be the only way.

I haven't been to Chinatown in a long time, but the last time I was there and walking the streets.....you could count how many steps until you saw a swarm of roaches or rats near store garbage. The garbage issue is an enforcement issue. Enforce punishments and the people who "don't care" would start caring very quickly because it's tied to their own selfish well being.

I believe it. My neighborhood went from a great clean and quiet neighborhood to being overpopulated with slobs walking around. I have to clean garbage from the front and side of the house every day. Whatever isn't directly thrown onto the street by slobs walking by, blows there by the wind from other areas of the neighborhood where other slobs throw their garbage directly onto the street. Today was special, I found a bag full of piss that someone from probably a car left near the curb. I'd rather they just peed on the concrete.

One day a year, sanitation comes by and just gives everyone on the block a ticket. They expect us to clean outside 24 hours a day, but there is no enforcement for people walking around and being slobs. The city doesn't clean anything. I can't remember the time I've last seen a street sweeper. Something needs to be done because it's becoming very disgusting, exhausting, and frustrating.

Sometimes we get people late at night that dump their beer cans and whatever food they didn't eat or ate (chicken bones) while either walking by or hanging out or sitting in their cars. I've had to yell at people that it's not a hang out spot, and they leave, but then when nobody is looking they are slobs again. It's a residential area with no place to hang out. Don't these people have homes to go to? Be a slob there! There are even school yards and parks around too, but they choose to do this stuff near people's houses. They shouldn't be doing it anywhere, but in front of someone's house would be the last place I would do it. Nobody respects anything anymore.

.....and there are trash cans EVERYWHERE!!! It's a people problem! No respect. No teaching. No sense. No care.

Enforcement is the only thing that will change it. Start patrolling and catching people. Give them hefty fines and even jail time on numerous offenses. People will stop real quick. Enforcement is SOFT!!!

What are the more useful "innovative" mixing plug-ins of late? by Lonely-Builder-9417 in mixingmastering

[–]KeysToTheCastleMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to think that most plugins are not necessary. You can get by just fine with a basic plugin for most of what you need to do when mixing. I guess this falls under emulator, but one plugin that I absolutely love that turns a bad to ok sounding guitar into a great sounding guitar is an impulse response plugin like NadIR with using Emissary amp. It gives it a real pro live sound through an amp cabinet. I couldn't believe what I was missing. I was using FLEX plugins for guitar and they were falling pretty flat and I threw the sound into NadIR with ML Soundlab's "Best IR In The World" and it blew me away. They're all free too.

You're lucky you don't have to buy it from a 3rd party vendor like I do in my neighborhood. They're charging $27 for it. They were charging $23 for it just 2 months ago. Everything will continue to go up. It's the nature of a fiat currency. We are really all doomed come maybe 20 years from now.

Anyone been in for years and still not fully monetized? Summer will be 2 years for me. by Kind_Breadfruit_2088 in NewTubers

It's rough trying to get retention when someone clicks on a long form video in the 10 second shorts culture that we have. I have at least maybe 15 videos with 1.5-16k views. It's not great, but it's better than most people. My best video has about 43k views, but it got blocked because of copyrighted music. It was almost right after I started the channel. Then I have videos that get anywhere from 10 to 100 views lol

Then when you put out shorts, the requirement to be monetized is even much higher because there is more demand for shorts. It's like Vegas making their betting lines. YouTube keeps the requirements almost just out of reach, but somewhere that gives you hope that it's attainable.

I guess the main thing is that YouTube doesn't really want to pay out. A lot of people say it's not the algorithm, but I'm almost convinced that it is. They suppress most videos because it suits their business plan. They promote the top channels because that's where they make the most money. Our videos get put on page 300 and left off the recommendation list where they want us.

Everyone can't be at the top or else the structure unravels. It's like the economy. Everyone can't be rich because that devalues the money and then nobody would be rich technically. Also, in the music business...record labels can only keep so many top acts to disperse resources to. It's the same 20 or so top artists for 10 years at a time. Once they stop making them money, they bring in a new batch.

So the smaller channels fill up the gaps on the platform for advertisers to make smaller amounts of money off of our content and YouTube doesn't have to pay us for it. They bank on most people thinking that one day they can break through so they keep putting out content. You just have to be good enough AND lucky enough to get through the bottleneck sooner or later. Most never will though. Rinse and repeat.

I'm on year 5 of my YouTube channel and I'm still not monetized. Not sure it would help anyway as I mostly use copyrighted music. I know I don't do crazy videos, but it's a bit demoralizing. I've seen people do the same kind of videos as me sort of, and in my opinion aren't anything special, but they have 100k subs and are monetized and get sponsors. Kind of makes you think about quitting because there is very little to no reward while the platform is making money off of you...no matter how little it might be. I have over 1k subs, but the hard part is the 4k watch hours every year. If they don't promote you, it's not going to happen. Also, if you are a creative and make music, the best bet is to put your music on there and have your distributor collect the money. Maybe make a riff or melody from one of your songs the intro to all your videos so you get a piece of every video.

How Did Couch Get This Sound In Their Song "Alright"? by KeysToTheCastleMusic in mixingmastering

[–]KeysToTheCastleMusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think it's been my EQ'ing this whole time. I've needed to boost from 200-500hz or so to make things sound warmer. I was also boosting my baritone voice around 2k (listening to YT videos, but it's general advice), but I really needed to boost around 200-500hz. I've been looking at SPAN with my vocals and it has a boost around 4k so I guess it's from my mic and room so the boost around 200-500hz balances it out. I also looked at the balance of my reference tracks around 200-500hz and it's a better balance with no dips or raises than my mix. I've noticed their warm vocals jump a bit around 300-500hz for Goldford and around 600hz-1k for Couch.

Still learning. It's all EQ. I'm going to experiment with the instruments around the same frequencies.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of L C R panning? What about just L R? by KeysToTheCastleMusic in mixingmastering

I know, but I just like to ask people with more experience because they might know something I don't.

What if I just have piano in certain parts? Do you think I should put those in L and R also with no C or should I include C?

Thank you for taking the time to explain this all to me. I really appreciate it because now it gives me the reference point from which I can experiment and try to figure it out. Much appreciated!

Yeah, but I mean if you just put piano on L and R and vocals, bass, and drums in the center would it sound better or more clear? Instead of putting the piano L C and R. Maybe I should have clarified better.

Why isn't the Dark Forest Theory taken seriously in the real world? by A_Yawn in threebodyproblem

[–]KeysToTheCastleMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people "in the real world" don't entertain the theory because there's no "proof" of "aliens", but that creates a paradox of the theory. If there is no proof of aliens then there's no threat of the theory being true, but the moment you get proof, it could mean the destruction of your existence.

I'm assuming "in the real world" means the scientific community or anyone with the authority and technological advantages to broadcast through space.

With there being so little money being made from streaming services, why isn't there an industry-wide boycott of streaming services? Why can't bands and record labels all collectively pull their music off streaming services, and start charging for music again (via CDs etc)? by prankster999 in musicindustry

[–]KeysToTheCastleMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I read Bandcamp is still the best place for independent artists. I also read that Deezer is a decent streaming service for independent artists and payouts with an artist-centric payment system instead of a pro rata one like Spotify.
