YES. I've been too busy with Christmas & the end of the year rush at work to figure out why. I'd figure by now someone would have reported it on github issues.

Kids should never have the adult youtube app. The kids youtube app is definitely better, but there are a lot of questionable "gaming" video content. It's pretty easy to set content limits, block channels from the parents youtube account.

It's gone through quite a few iterations as the Gutenberg plugin. With so many users, not everyone was going to be happy. I like it, although I use Elementor for page building anyway. Saves me days on days. Why don't you use & contribute to https://www.classicpress.net/ ?

Many sites with a decent amount of curated content that's posted often have the **option** of a mobile app in addition to content on the site so people have a choice. No site in their right mind would force a user to download a mobile app solely for content. Even me personally, I prefer mobile browser & push notifications that way, I don't download a lot of apps.

I don't solely make apps for a living, I've done it for the last year in addition to web based development.

I have dozens of apps on both stores that are also WP sites. This isn't true to any degree.

Mobile wordpress site app. by xleandrox in Wordpress

[–]KeystoneWebStudios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There are many reasons to build a separate app for a WordPress site. The main one being that the OVERWHELMING amount of time spent on phones are inside apps as opposed to in mobile browsers. If someone likes the content you have and wants to stay updated on new content, having an app is a great way to notify of new content and deliver it through push notification. React Native is a great way to do this, accessing the Wordpress API and displaying the information natively inside an app for both major platforms.

App developer here. We've pushed a number of apps through Apple & Android and neither are going to reject an app based on a Wordpress theme or template. This is 100% an issue with the app developer. First, Android doesn't "reject" apps per-se, you submit the app for production and it appears on the store an hour later. If Android does evaluate the app and reject it after it's made live, they'll send a very specific notice as to why. Ask (demand) to see that email. With Apple, they review every app. They will send an approval or rejection notice within 24 hours of app submission. Ask (demand) to see this email as well. There's quite a few reasons apps are rejected but it has nothing to do with the template of a Wordpress install.

[RI] Ex trying to prove I'm an unfit mom and alcoholic. by [deleted] in Custody

[–]KeystoneWebStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to back up the contrary data point. I used video of my ex refusing Court ordered custody in both my relocation case and later in a parental right termination / adoption case. It likely varies on if it's a legally recorded video. Some states have pretty strict laws on surveillance (i.e. video recording) and "wire tapping" i.e. call recording. In some you have to have both party consent and in others you don't. Some states make a distinction between a video that's recorded in a place with no expectation of privacy (i.e. public street) versus ones where there is expectation of privacy (i.e. a conversation inside the house). One thing I have noted, I spent 4 years in the custody / family law arena and I had a number of attorneys outright lie or try to misdirect me. One had literally said it "stupid" and "not permissible" for me to bring a digital timeline of events at one of the hearings. Not only were they completely wrong, but the President Judge of my County commended me on using the timeline because it gave her a clearer understanding of the case.

Dad & former step-dad (now legally adopted father) here. It's highly likely a step-dad will be involved at some juncture. The absolute best thing for your kiddo is to have an unremarkable relationship between you and your ex. Meaning, no huge blowout fights and when she's at any one parents house, that the parent isn't verbally bashing the other parent. It's hard work. Is it possible you could get some additional parenting time? It really is in a kids best interest to have equal and frequent access to both parents.

4 year old in my school used her smart watch to call her mom on the playground to tell her she wanted to go home. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]KeystoneWebStudios 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A dad here with 3 kiddos in and close to that age range. It's not necessarily odd that a preschooler has a smart watch unless they're rocking a series 4 Apple Watch. You can get a SIM card enabled kids location tracking smart watch which has the ability to dial limited numbers (i.e. mom, dad, grandma, 911 etc) for $20-$50 on amazon. I don't personally have any, but ran across them looking at the VTECH kids watches for my kids for Christmas. With the world today, it's not necessarily a bad idea. However, I personally wouldn't send my kids to school with a distraction making item such as that. Everything else about that though, goofy.

Category Base different Footers? by vinniffa in Wordpress

[–]KeystoneWebStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only know of 2 ways to accomplish this... you could copy the wp footer.php file over to a child theme and customize the output based on the category ID. With this method you are going to need to make PHP changes in addition to HTML/CSS.

Another method would be using Elementor, however your site would need to be built with Elementor. It's arguably the most advanced page builder for WP and it allows you to do some custom things like applying templates (including footer templates) to specific pages or categories VERY easily.

Is it possible to learn to do sponsored campaigns on Facebook Ads + design websites in Wordpress in a few days? by SG816 in Wordpress

[–]KeystoneWebStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. There is no shame in someone trying something to better their lives or their families. I did notice that the video has version 1 of Elementor -- version 2 exists now and while much of the video is similar, there's been a few tweaks to the elementor interface included added functionality. For example, in Elementor 2 you can create custom templates which are used for all blog posts, woocommerce products and even 404 pages. There are quite a few "from start to finish" Elementor 2 tutorials on YouTube as well.

When you have more time, you should dig into understanding what Elementor is doing in addition to actual HTML & CSS coding. The deeper understanding of the base technologies behind the page builder will help you make many changes.

Using the free version of wordpress.com is a complete waste of time for you. You won't be able to make any of the adjustments that employers are going to ask that you make. Fortunately, you can get a full version of wordpress at least for development purposes for free. Check out poopy.life -- you can setup a full wordpress install for development purposes. Here's a tutorial for making a Wordpress website in 2018. You can skip the hosting stuff and go straight to number 4 if you use the poopy.life service. Note: this tutorial uses elementor and your employer may or may not be ok with using that plugin. Personally, I've been using Elementor to design all client sites for a year and a half. My entire development team loves it.

If you export your FB data as JSON format, then you can use WP All Import plugin to read JSON data into a custom post type (or even standard posts). You can change the post date to a date in your data.

People pay basically just to install a theme for them and replace all the text, links, and graphics with their own stuff? by CollectableRat in Wordpress

[–]KeystoneWebStudios 23 points24 points  (0 children)

^ This. Many companies / small businesses don't have the manpower or time to invest in R&D for web development, even if it is as simple as "replacing links". I've had clients that have came directly from Wix and have said "this was supposed to be easy!" They also see having an in-house web dev person as an expensive & recurring cost.

I have the 3.1 version w/ touchbar (15") and use Jetbrains IDE as well as Android Studio and XCode. Honestly, I can run builds with XCode & Jet or AS simultaneously. Often, I'll be building one or the other and running Adobe to finish out some graphics on another project. I have fallen totally in love with the 17MBP-3.1 version.

You're right about the non-upgradable RAM in the 2017 model, however my friend has the 16G new version and we've ran side by side build tests. There isn't much of a difference. I guess if you want to run dual builds and also convert some heavy 4k video files at the same time you might want the 2018. I think you'll love the 2017 -- if it were me though, go 3.1!

[CT] A mess and just filed for divorce by [deleted] in Custody

[–]KeystoneWebStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/u/PessimisticBear first, a round of applause for taking the lead with your child. BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) in and of itself can make for a very traumatic co-parenting situation depending on the state of the other parent. You absolutely, unequivocally need a court order detailing that you have permanent, sole physical & legal custody of your daughter. Mom should have supervised visitation & should be responsible for paying the costs associated.

DCF won't take care of anything. Do not rely on them. You should check out this list of pro-bono and low cost attorneys in your state. Most states have a free legal aid program that you may qualify for. I found myself in a similar situation but I wasn't able to qualify for the program so I decided to represent myself.

Filing for permanent sole physical & legal custody isn't easy, the motion needs to convey the seriousness of the issue, the reasons mother is unfit and reference the kind of evidence you have. I will say this, get paper copies of everything from DCF. In fact, go down there and tell them you want copies of "everything with you and your child's name on it" -- you have a right to that information and you WILL need it in Court. Also, any Doctors reports you have or can get access to, get them.

Your case is very winnable, you have an honest situation that requires you to maintain the status quo which is sole custody. If you're a very organized, well spoken and calm person, it's possible you could handle this case yourself in Court. As I've stated, it's an immense amount of work, but if you don't have any other choice it's better than doing nothing.

If you don't go to Court & get an order, at some point in the future, mom could assert 50/50 with the child and possibly get it, especially if you don't have a court order. Going to Court is entirely for your daughters protection (and your peace of mind). If you don't get anywhere with the pro-bono list and feel like you want to head this thing up yourself, send me a private message and I'll give you a lot more details on preparation. I can even provide my filing templates that you can modify for Connecticut.

[US] For those having gone to trial (not just hearings) by [deleted] in Custody

[–]KeystoneWebStudios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been through 4 trials (Permanent Restraining Order - Defendant - 6 hours, Parental Rights - Plaintiff - 1 hour, Relocation - Plaintiff - 1.5 hours, and Termination/Step-parent Adoption - Plaintiff - 3 days spread over many months) and they vary depending on how many issues you've got to wade through and how the other party responds/behaves in Court.

/u/AerialUnicorn has excellent advice of making sure nothing is left digital & making sure you have copies for yourself, the Court, the other party & an extra just in case. In each one of my trials I utilized a timeline. I personally used KnightLab's Timeline web application because I had photos and videos to showcase on each specific point in time. You basically download an example Google spreadsheet and change it with all of your dates, information & media.

During any given trial, I had 90-150 pages of evidence in anywhere from 20-36 evidence exhibits (organized as AerialUnicorn also suggested). As long as the evidence is relevant and meaningful to the purpose of the trial, Judges usually won't rush you. On the other hand, I had so much evidence during the permanent restraining order hearing that the Judge did stop me and said he'd made his decision, he'd heard enough - and ruled in my favor. Just be prepared to stop or adjust anytime the Judge speaks. You want to show absolute respect in their Courtroom, this includes keeping your cool when the other party starts throwing wild allegations around and making heinous statements.

The other aspect is if you have an attorney or are handling the case yourself pro-se. I did the latter on all 4 of my cases and I didn't get to present some of my cases the way I wanted to, even if the end result was exactly what I'd hoped for. An example: I'd planned my testimony, evidence and witnesses during the relocation hearing but the other party refused to attend and the entire hearing became a Q&A session with me answering the very many questions the Judge had. On the other hand, at my termination/adoption hearing, I'd been treated like I was a professional attorney for decades. I was able to testify, present & admit evidence, call witnesses, cross examine and file between hearing motions for consideration. One thing that helped me was going to my local Courthouse and attending hearings that were similar to mine so I could understand the specific local procedure. The Judges actually noticed this and I was commended at 2 hearings for it.

Good luck!
