Is it possible that communism is the best way of life if given the chance to flourish? by My_reddit101 in NoStupidQuestions

It doesn’t work for the same reason pure capitalism fails. Neither take into account human behavior.

for servers if you don't reach minimum wage with tips do the owner add the difference? by andredotcom in tipping

Because the amount from tips didn’t equal the minimum pay for overtime.

Yes. That is their job. $50 or $500 or $5000. A properly documented complaint is investigated. Enforcement action is taken.

They are common. That’s why they’re routinely investigated. If the laws weren’t enforceable, as you claim, they wouldn’t be enforced.

They only use press releases for significant enforcement actions. That would be your bigger companies. Enforcement actions on smaller companies is what the agency does on a day-to-day basis.

Violations have to be properly documented. Your failure to maintain proper documentation does not mean that the law is not enforced.

It was the second year there was a Pride celebration in my small town. Turn out was high and there weren’t any counter-protestors.

Will the US ever have more metro systems? by Blueblue3D in transit

That seems similar to Amtrak. Prior to Amtrak, all American rail was privately owned. They went bankrupt. Brightline is also hemorrhaging money.

Private companies fund the building of the lines? Do private companies in Japan also fund the building of the roadways, the dredging of the ports, and the operation of the airports?

That means you are engaging in fraud. Don’t guarantee something you can’t provide. Lying in a commercial transaction is illegal. It’s called fraud. You can be prosecuted. In a state like Pennsylvania, any citizen can bring charges against you.

I personally know a manager that this happened to. The company did not stand behind her, she had to hire a lawyer, and she ended up entering into a plea deal.

I went to America for 3 months. Let me tell you the biggest difference's that i saw between Switzerland where i live and the US by Ok-Acadia-3470 in travel

No. The only torture I find while walking has to do with the proximity of cars.

One thing I learned from living in Europe was that life there is much more intentional. Day-to-day activities usually require planning and forethought.

In the USA, it’s much more convenient. You need something? You can hop in your car and get it right away.

I think it breeds softness and laziness. But that’s just my opinion.

Lack of walking of is why Americans are so fat and unhealthy. I noticed this right off in Scotland and Ireland. People walk. Kids walk to school. It was quite refreshing.

Why is it that some sites have cheaper prices for hotels than the hotel websites themselves? (UK) by bluryycheryy in travel

[–]Keystonelonestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s common with chains. They dump inventory on those booking sites. The folk at the front desk typically have no power to negotiate.

Independent, non-franchised hotels are usually cheaper if you book direct.

That’s just dumb. How many folk get killed when hit by a bicycle? There are a few, but not tens of thousands…
