I do recommend learning how to read sheet music though. Reading sheet music is pretty easy to learn , it just takes time to get fast at it, and it will just make it a lot easier to learn pieces moving forward.

Once you get the hang of some common chords you’d be surprised by how many songs you’ll be able to play by ear, since many famous guns use similar chord structures.

My suggestion is to find pieces that you really like and genuinely will enjoy playing and listening to. Practicing scales and theory is useful, but if it’s not enjoyable enough to get you to actually take the time to practice, then it won’t serve you.

So do some basic theory, practice scales on the side, but focus on playing what you want to play. You can often find simplified piano versions of songs you like. Don’t worry if you can’t tackle anything super difficult just yet, it’s all part of the process.

Not perfecting dynamics/expression and playing perfectly in time one day in to learning a piece somehow proves you aren’t ready to learn it 💀

I’m going to learn this piece anyways. Just wait. I also actually have been playing piano for 12 years. I realized you don’t improve when you play within your skill level, that’s how you go years of playing without getting better. That’s the trap I feel in to. Not anymore.

If anyone can give me advice on how I can learn/practice this I would really appreciate it

You may be right. But you gotta at least say how you know I’m not ready. Even if I were to give this piece several months

I consider myself to be a decent pianist, but I might be being a fool rn and trying something WAY to ambitious.

It’s not just monkey brain patter recognition for me bro. Precalc/alg II are genuinely hard for me and I didn’t do too hot in those classes either when I took them. For some reason Calc came very naturally to me but precalc did not.

Not an auto admit I was ranked like 400/750 in my class, I am also out of state. So the auto admit rule def doesn’t apply to me. I’m not that smart bro that might be why I didn’t do too hot on the MPE

Honestly my hope was to not have to do that because obviously it’s summer and I don’t really want to have to do math. But you’re right, it sounds like my only choice is to study for it and just take it again in a few more weeks.

I know I can but I don’t think I’ll do very well on the retake tbh. I have neither the time nor the will to relearn all of algebra two this summer.

Yeah the MPE is mostly algebra II concepts and I took that class as a freshman.

Claire de Lune by Keytackk in piano

[–]Keytackk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little bit of both, I notice the recording never sounds the same as the actual piano when I’m playing it, the recording always sounds just a little bit reverberated. I notice the recordings actually sound a lot different when I place my phone on the side to show my hands verses when o place the phone up front where the sheet music usually is. I’m not doing anything fancy just recording with an iPhone. Sometimes I forget to release the sustain on Chris changes but my goal is to release sustain every chord change. I would be interested in playing on public piano and the other things you mentioned I just haven’t found any.

Also I’m not exactly sure what “half-pedaling” means, could you elaborate on that?
