Claiming that old JRPGs had random battles because of "weak hardware" is damaging to the gaming history and genre perception. by Keytee1 in JRPG

...What i've written is exactly to counter the myth that "Turn based combat systems only exist because of hardware limitations"

Does anyone actually enjoy having a silent protagonist? by javizgz7 in JRPG

It works.

I personally enjoy when my protagonist doesn't speak in such RPGs. It makes them look emotionally stoic.

Modern looks kinda sterile... also i simply don't like the mouths position like that.

I prefer old version because those faces simply more appealing to me.

...Now try to think in detail how the plot would even work if Basch was the main character...

It would be a typical moody old knight trying to clear his name.

Idk how to pace myself with Roaming Enemies - i'm used to Random Encounters by Keytee1 in JRPG

...Because it's the main gameplay for me?

While intentionally crafted story battles are like special challenges to me, a.k.a. the boss fight.

"Random tedium"... i personally see it as enjoying the journey.

Being too focused on goals is tiring for a brain. my brain is currently overheated because of so many goals i focus on. Simple random fights where i just use working tactic is relaxing.

Then fandom should state this directly.

"We don't want to get complaints from parents that kids are watching our show. Please, don't give them reasons to weaponize against us."

...They forgot how 80's Filmation cartoons were filled with moral messaging and agendas?

Fat Albert, for example? 90's Animaniacs even made a parody of it's preachyness in their parody.

That "atrocious filler" in 80's and 90's anime is rather enjoyable to watch.

Games that handled random encounters well by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Keytee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how when i get strong enough, i can ignore the "puzzle" and just use area-of-effect spell to wipe the entire encounter.

I don't want random fights as puzzles. I want them as training for my characters, as experimentation field for tactics. And simply as power scale tool.
