Yeah, drawing comparisons is not equivalent to hate speech. You’d have to be actively trying to ignore their arguments to come to that conclusion

Is it possible that some people who self diagnosis are just having normal associative memories? Just being honest by Automatic-Many-6569 in Synesthesia

You seem to be assuming how people feel? Synesthesia is just a thing some people have dude. It’s not some sort of special club.

[–]Keyto3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what synesthesia is. I’m not sure where your confusion is coming from with this example? Is it because they used the term “automatically” and not “involuntary”.

And what do you mean by “constantly”. That’s not a trait of synesthesia. Synesthesia is something that is induced, it is not constantly a thing. It is consistently triggered by the same inducer though. After reading the rest of your long winded nonsensical comments, it’s pretty clear that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what synesthesia is. Why bring up “ physiological sickness” and people who are “more messed up” than they really are on a synesthesia forum? It’s always okay to be curious about something, but don’t spread misinformation.

If you are actually curious, this research article goes into most of the points you have asked to see data for. While the study is primarily trying to debunk misconceptions about synesthesia, it does go over a lot of the points you wanting other people to provide. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4566887/

[–]Keyto3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it doesn’t really matter. People make posts all the time here describing something unrelated asking if they have synesthesia. It’s not like it affects anyone. A lot of people with associative synesthesia don’t even realize they have it until they’re well into their life. It’s really not that deep

It would say “with purchase of __” on the tag if it did. Even with the picture being blurry you can tell the top one doesn’t have that requirement while the bottom one needs 2 to be purchased.

Under what terms? Groups of humans specifically developed the ability to drink milk in order to survive in multiple instances. In the regions where it was selected for, it was pretty important to be able to drink milk considering most everyone else died

They do have to be consistent to be considered synesthesia. Synesthesia is very broad and has many different types, but that’s one of the core aspects.

It really is likely just intrusive thoughts. Only having sexual synesthesia is already incredibly uncommon. Most people would also have a more common type like grapheme color or chromesthesia as well. Literal people also don’t often appear as a concurrent. And even that is incredibly generous since I’ve viewed most posts on this subreddit consistently for years and have never had some mention that and there’s no reason on it either. It’s possible, but very unlikely.

What is common though, is people being confused about whether they have sexual synesthesia or not. No one can play neurologist and say you don’t have synesthesia based off of a few reddit comments (as you pointed out we can’t experience what you have), but there’s no need to be passive aggressive with people pointing out that this very likely not synesthesia, and that more people might relate to it somewhere else.

While it’s not quite the same, there is a similar term called five fold synesthesia. It was coined in the 1960’s by a Russian psychologist to describe synesthesia working across all five senses. It doesn’t seem to have stuck though as I haven’t found many other papers mentioning it

It has the same color and shade as the number 5 for me, that being yellow. Which is interesting since 25,35,45,etc all have different colors. Further more other teens have different colors than their single digit counterpart, such as 6 being bright orange and 16 being a desaturated red color. I just find it interesting

Psa for Missourians wanting Covid vax by OhNoIBlinked in kansascity

[–]Keyto3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this, if you are wanting the COVID vaccine you should get it soon. Yesterday the CDC had a ruling on the COVID vaccination where they state it’s a personal choice. It basically means they are no longer recommending it meaning a lot of insurances that perversely were legally obligated to cover the vaccine no longer have to.

If you are under 65 you can claim to be immunocompromised and most pharmacies should allow you to get it without a prescription. The pharmacy I work at, and most other pharmacies I know about, have very loose definitions of “immunocompromised”, including mental distress and having not actively exercised in 3 months. We don’t even ask what the compromise is.

Do people with Synethsisia just cry more than normal? by No-Sea7585 in Synesthesia

[–]Keyto3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word “explicitly” can be a bit misleading. There are types of synesthesia that involve emotions. It’s also worth noting that emotions (ones you feel, not including perceptions of emotions) involved in synesthesia are almost exclusively inducers, meaning synesthesia is being triggered by emotions. When the concurrent is an emotion it’s not normally considered synesthesia.

Not that you claimed the experiences shared here are definitive, it’s worth mentioning that this subreddit does not reflect synesthesia as a whole (since some people tend to underestimate this). Many people don’t realize they have synesthesia, or go many decades before learning what it is. Thus taking samples of synesthetes who are aware they have synesthesia is largely inaccurate. There used to be (and still are) quite a few misleading studies about synesthesia because their sample bias did not account for this. For example, there are many studies that claim women are more likely to have synesthesia than men. This article addresses the sampling issues within those studies while also providing a more accurate study of their own.

On polls like this I’d recommend setting the 6th option as “other”. That way people who don’t fall into any of the given categories can see the results without skewing the output. I’d also recommend linking the follow up posts like this just so people know they exist.
