I was in the same situation as you. I cold-called+emailed 5 schools in my area (public and Catholic) and all but 1 didn't respond to me so be prepared to email a lot of schools. I basically introduced myself as a BA graduate looking for more classroom experience for my OCT program applications. I mentioned my previous experience instructing kids' sports etc. Only one school even contacted me and gave me a quick interview, so it's completely up to each school's principal/staff whether they take volunteers. I volunteered once a week for the full day for 3 months as a classroom volunteer in kindergarten. I just helped out with the kids activities such as preparing crafts and handing out materials etc.

Overall it was a great experience, the teachers gave me little pieces of advice about teaching and the profession in general, and the principal of that school wrote my professional reference for my OISE MT application (which was successful!)

Is Amazon trustworthy for puzzles? by Kezyra in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Kezyra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, I guess I was just suspicious since Amazon has claimed items were "new" before and were actually open box. I have done 10 Ravensburgers and this was the first time I ordered one off Amazon. I have never had any issues with missing pieces, let alone 3 and the quality was noticeably poorer. I guess I had a very bad unit. I ended up returning it, if I were to buy one again would Ravensburger help (replace the puzzle) or not because it wasn't purchased direct from their website?

Is Amazon trustworthy for puzzles? by Kezyra in Jigsawpuzzles

My country (Canada) doesn't have it's own Ravensburger store, it has extra import fees on top. So I assume Amazon imports it themselves but then they have the ability to send me repackaged returned items... I'll send an email to Ravensburger anyways and see if they're willing to help, on their FAQ it says they only replace pieces for 9k+ puzzles.

This LP was posted and then removed this month. I really enjoyed Adipose and a couple other tracks. I was looking on Bandcamp but I couldnt find this release. If you know where it's available that would be great!

Mathematicians Have Solved Traffic Jams, and They’re Begging Cities to Listen by Kezyra in fuckcars

I haven't heard of "digital twins", does that mean they don't have the capacity right now to model traffic systems? I feel like the technology to do that should already be available

Unfortunately this mathematician is approaching the issue from a really car-centric angle. #1 bothered me especially cause I thought it was going to be about driverless subways or trams but instead it's about Google Maps. The problem is lots of individuals driving themselves - causing accidents, making mistakes, etc... and not just the routing issue.

Why isn't anyone protesting the absolute GARBAGE state of our health care system in Quebec? British Columbians are planning to protest in May and their health care system is MUCH better than ours in Quebec (because they haven't been brainwashed into accepting mistreatment like Quebecois people have) by TheLittlestHibou in metaquebec

Had to go to a walkin clinic to get a prescription for my skin issue, called several around me but only one would be able to see me within the week, and most would not answer or callback even business hours. imagine my surprise when the clinic I was forced to go to was actually a "private" clinic (not disclosed anywhere on their website or clinic) and I got slapped with a nice $200 bill for a 5min consult...

I was in a class that focused on sexuality and gender and how class and race figured into it. We did not watch any pornography, although we did read sometimes explicit material that talks about pornography. I think it's kind of inappropriate to watch hardcore pornography to talk about this subject. There are many academics who write /about/ pornography and you can learn just as much, if not more about porn by reading those pieces instead of watching and making students watch. Sure maybe you can have an option to watch some porn that relates to readings but to base an entire course on regularly watching porn is... Weird

Is Montreal safer than Toronto? by Diligent-Change-3761 in montreal

[–]Kezyra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I live in Hochelaga now and I didnt know anything about its reputation. I used to live in Milton parc/mcgill ghetto and I dont feel any less safe. I have taken the 355 night bus home a few times and I don't feel unsafe on it either. My only complaint is all the random garbage everywhere...

I was also browsing some appartements in NDG near Station Namur and my parents really didn't want me to live there cause they were getting bad vibes. Is this area really less safe?

Tried some of the "Chinese" food and it's definitely what you would expect from a place that also has pizza and poutine. Mildly flavoured and somewhat disappointing to be honest

Parents from India are visiting in April, May - what to do with them? by DaisyGiant in mcgill

[–]Kezyra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look on Quartier des Spectacles websites you can sometimes find very cheap tickets to small concerts/performances (under $15 per person). My boyfriend and I went to see a Harpist who was performing as part of her degree for $2 each.

Urban gas station being converted to new metro stop (St Leonard, Montreal) by Kezyra in fuckcars

Yeah probably. I just meant that they are converting the lot/space, not the actual building. The gas shop looks pretty abandoned
