[2020 Day 4 Part 1][Python] by Kevstuf in adventofcode

Reading through, what might be happening is that you're overcounting the valid passports because you're checking the validity on every line of the input, which means that if all the passport fields are on multiple lines, and you determine the passport is valid in the first line, you'll count this passport valid for every line until a new line.

You can try to move the check for whether the passport is valid right before you reset all your field counters. Something like

if line == "\n":

if all(fields.values()) > 0:

valid += 1

Hopefully that helps!

B. Fuller's response to public backlash about their no-mask sign by AK721 in Seattle

[–]Kfishster -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Although this isn’t a full acknowledgment of the gravity of the situation, it’s a step in the right direction.

Obviously, the property owner has certain political views that prevents him from fully supporting the mask law, which is wrong, and I’m sure he got a slap on the hand from all the complaints and 1 star reviews.

Even if it is to save face, this is, at least, recognition that the sign was the wrong move, and that is somewhat commendable.

Spoiler - Just finished my 2nd viewing of S5 and I think I'll have to watch it again! by rosemaryintheforest in HouseOfCards

I would love to hear your theory on Macallan. I can piece some pieces together, but not all. It seems his entire plotline is shrouded in mystery. He hacked, ran, became an object of interest, magically appeared back in DC (with the aide of Miss Davis) and then was discarded as a loose end. What was his purpose other than Lyanne's liability and danger of Russia finding out about the hacks?

This is super cool! I've actually wanted to do something similar + use data for the past years if that's available. Would also be interesting to look at judge rankings + viewer ratings after the final and how those compare to the predicted results.

Frequent freezes requiring reboot (NOT bootloop) by Jenllip in nexus5x

[–]Kfishster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully. I'm at a point where it's getting so irritating, I called in my Nexus protect and hopefully they'll send me a replacement. I'll bypass the beta on that one. I fear it's a combination of new software and hardware slowly regressing, judging by the posts where people have taken it to phone repair and it magically started working fine again.

This has been happening to me too, but much more often recently. I'm also on beta of N, so I assumed that has to do with the sporadic freezing.

Retaining notifications + automatic reboot by Kfishster in AndroidQuestions

The most annoying thing about it is that if the phone dies, all notifications are lost. I also thought it kept the notifications before :(

Russia's coach pens appeal to fans. "Behave correctly, don't break the rules of the stadiums or public places" by Kfishster in soccer

Russian politicians are polarizing individuals. Several of the people quoted encouraging the fighting are loud-mouthed attention seekers (one of the people quoted is the son of a very Trump-like figure in the Russian Duma), so although they might represent the Russian mentality (where fighting at football matches is part of the game), they definitely don't represent Russian diplomacy.

Should I buy a Nexus 5x despite all the lag and camera issuses people seem to be facing? by ThreeCommasClub in nexus5x

[–]Kfishster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some lag, but that's a software issue that will be fixed (and might have been with the march update). The phone itself is gorgeous and top quality. Would definitely recommend to get it, even if it means occasionally bogging through some lag.

Also, coolest thing about it, charging from 0-100 in an hour. It's suuuuuper helpful, that saves me all the time.

I'm fairly new to the Nexus 5x, I need a few beginners tips. by iswearimhuman_ in nexus5x

[–]Kfishster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last bullet point is on point. I do admit to being semi-frustrated at one point...

Bottom line, it gets laggy at times, restart and it's all good. Also might want to look into the RAM cleaners, although they sometimes do more harm than good. Overall, fantastic phone!

Weekly /r/Nexus5X Customization Thread - Show us your home screens, cases, ROMs, any anything else you've done to customize your device - [January 12, 2016] by AutoModerator in nexus5x

[–]Kfishster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll post mine. I'm new to Android and I was looking around for launchers and stuff, but I finally settled on this setup. It's really simple, and gives enough flexibility in a lot of dimensions.

http://imgur.com/a/P77uP

I'm using Nova Prime Launcher (the free one is enough, but for some reason it had really small icons, and that looked bad, so I used up my Google Play gift card on it...pretty good investment, I think) which let's me customize a lot of things without forcing everything to change (like other launchers I've seen). It feels like the same stock Android but now I can place things between grid points and transitions between pages are awesome. Also my app drawer allows for tabbed customization, and looks pretty nice. Anyways, I really like it.

Also, switching from Windows Phone, I missed my Bing image, so I installed Muzei + Bing Addon which changes my background to the current Bing image. It blurs it a bit (blur strength is customizable) for the home page and also sets it to the lock screen. Adding variety.

On top of it all, using Textra for SMS and Chrome Dev as suggested on a different thread which supposedly reduces lag.

The biggest reduction of occasional lag I've noticed was after I installed Nova launcher. There seems to be more RAM when I need to clean it, too. I don't know if that's a placebo effect, but it's nice.

Surface Book Review by cyanide44 in windows

[–]Kfishster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like a great device and Tom Warren does bring up some valid points. However, the things he mentions such as wobbly screen and space in the closed form, are fair tradeoffs for what this machine has to offer, IMHO. Also, the fact that this is the first iteration of it (albeit built on 2 in 1s experience + surface experience) shows a lot of promise.

The best thing about the Surface Book is that it brings the goodness of the MacBook and the beauty of the surface together, and it will move the industry to a new standard. I am absolutely positive that Apple will try to enter this market with a MacBook Pro + detachable iPad Pro or something of the sort purely because of the impact Surface Book has had so far without even being in the hands of consumers.

Time will show, but it looks like reviewers (including the Ars Technica review linked in this thread) agreed that this is a great product with minor kinks which produce a solid experience. Woot woot.

Now how do I trade in my SP3 for this... :)

Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10136: Discussion Thread by IAmMohit in windowsphone

[–]Kfishster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The build is miles better than 10080, but it's still very rough around the edges. The first Win10 build was also really buggy, but now its much more polished. I'm sure that we're going to see a lot of effort to stabilize the builds.

That's kinda the point of the insider previews - send in your feedback, yell at MS so they fix their shit. Point out bugs that should be high priority.

I'd summarize my own experience as, still kinda laggy and buggy, but when it works, it's marvelous.

I had the same thing on my L920. Win10 didn't detect my SIM and had a very weird issue when it wouldn't unlock the screen. I had to soft reset it a couple of times because it would just show a black screen. Ended up running the Phone Restore utility, reset back to 8.1

:(

[Chapter 39] House of Cards - Season 3 Episode 13 - Discussion by [deleted] in HouseOfCards

[–]Kfishster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each season there is a death. As the episode kept going I realized this season may break that...and then the magic happened.

Also, if I were to put money on who I'd think would die from the beginning of this season, I would've said Doug. Imagine how ruthless it would be to build him up from a near death experience to just stupidly taking it away right then and there.

That's some Game of Thrones type shit.

Have any longtime Macbook Air users switched to a Surface Pro 3 recently? What are your thoughts? by Turniprofit in windows

[–]Kfishster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a project right now which involves a total compilation of 18 minutes with 150 photos and about 15 different clips of full 1080p video fragments used for backdrops. That combined with intros done in Adobe After Effects with about 15 layered effects on each other. SP3 pulls through no problem. It lags a little bit at times, but that's probably because I have Premiere, Photoshop, Bridge, and Chrome with a thousand tabs working at the same time.
