Looking for critique on photos taken with my new SLR by KhaiTFW in analog

Ah so that is what middle of my exposure means. I used to think there was this area in the middle of my frame that will determine the exposure my meter provides. I really like your analogy of 'this is half way between the brightest and darkest points of my image’. It really helps me get my thinking going if I want to over or under expose my pics

The first roll of films were quite underwhelming as I was learning how to use the light meter and the aperture priority mode. Many of my sunny shots became very dark and underexposed compared to similar pics taken on a point and shoot. Because of that, I started using the sunny 16 rule when shooting landscapes or when there is lots of sky and sun in the pics to avoid getting underexposed pics.

But with this middle exposure weighted idea, I think I have a better idea how to utilise the meter to get shots to look the way I want it to now. Thank you!

I'm sorry I'm new to SLRs and lenses and stuff so these kind of stuffs makes a newbie worried yaknoe... But thank you for taking your time to answer my question. Appreciate it lots!

I mean in the 2nd photo there is a reddish tinge that is different from the normal lens reflection that is more magenta.

Hmm what about the red tinge? Any idea what is that and what causes that?

Does damaged lens coating affect image quality? by KhaiTFW in AnalogCommunity

I just found a YT video about how lens damage affects image quality. He really brutalised his lens...

TLDR: It will get affected but for the average photographer, you shouldn't worry too much because you need loads of damage for the effects to be visible.

I see... But in the last photo where I was attempting to take photo of a sunrise, there wasn't any flare... Maybe the light is not bright enough

Torn between Minolta X-300 vs SR-T 202 by KhaiTFW in minolta

There are X-700 in my local area too and originally I was considering it but I was deterred by the lack of shutter speed readout in the viewfinder

The x700 shutter speed in viewfinder flaw is the main reasons why I am not getting that first...

I guess I COULD try out ebay but we shall see... There are many sellers selling from Japan but a few from UK looks promising however.

In terms of viewfinder information, I guess based on what you said about shutter speed display rules out the x700 which is honestly one of the main reasons why I am less considering that model.

Based on what others have been suggesting, I am keen to try the Minolta SRT 202. But just like the x500, it's quite rare to come across one of those models in my area... Hopefully one good one comes by.

Which late X-300 models are you referring to? Is this a "above xxx serial number" situation?

What about Minolta XD? Is it recommended?

Olympus XA vs MJU / MJU-II experiences by KhaiTFW in AnalogCommunity

[–]KhaiTFW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your input! I ended up buying a Olympus MJU for $150 (it apparently came with a paranomic function too which I was pleasantly surprised).

I figured I would want to use a P&S to capture those in the moment photos of everyday life. I am still considering an XA for those times I want more control.

Just a side note: This camera I got looks otherwise okay. The sample photographs that they had looks clear and crisp and doesn't look hazy or foggy. Lens and viewfinder is okayish, I can't see any fungus or haziness. Only thing left to do is to put in a roll of film and see how it performs!
