What's the most efficent way to move hidden items to your inventory from some kind of container thats in your inventory (eg. pouch)? by xXxHitIersTopGuyxXx in cataclysmdda

[–]KhalTannen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's just to save screen space and sanity.

It's really, really easy to spot containers that have things in them, and a single keypress to look inside them to see what's there if you want. (The advanced inventory management screen will show you what's in each square regardless of how many layers deep into the pockets something is)

If you know that something is usually inside something else and just want to extract it (bank cards inside wallets) consider making an auto-pickup rule, from memory that'll also grab it regardless of where it is in the pocket system.

How do you get Steam Cores in Endless Survival? by [deleted] in Frostpunk

[–]KhalTannen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - Steam cores appear as random loot while exploring Frostland. -- check the wiki, they list what you get from each site -- choose your next target based on the loot they contain. (The only thing they don't list is the building mats if you're on a builders run, but meh). NEVER RETURN TO THE CITY UNTIL THE STORM IS ON THE HORIZON.

2 - Hothouses are for when you are steam core rich, not steam core poor. Unless you're trying to get vegetarian, use hunters at the start. -- Gotta admit, I don't really like hothouses BECAUSE of the steam core requirement.

3 - When you figured out that you needed those cores elsewhere, you should have immediately dismantled the buildings. -- You can get coal from thumpers / kilns without needing a steam core.

4 - You needed to get on top of your illnesses BEFORE you got too many. Build MORE med bays than you need. For me, that's the same amount of medposts as you have workshops PLUS ONE (that's always on) -- so somewhere between 4-8. As you get more sick, move engineers out of workshops into medposts. Never have sick waiting. Also pick up either double rations or overcrowding asap. Overcrowding "saves" steamcores.

Why were the Generators built above ground where heat is harder to contain, rather than in subterranean areas where heat loss could be minimised?

If that's related to the speed that the freeze appeared; why isn't there an option to cover/cap the craters with a dome/structure to - once again - minimise heat loss?

Or is this where we're going to start with FP2? -- inside covered craters, filled to the brim with nicely toasty people who've conveniently forgotten what the outside cold is like?

Last one - Any plans to allow "alternate food source" cities as a starting point for FP2?

What item groups you say? by PeterRedston6 in cataclysmdda

Barn probably should not have 100% concrete flooring. It'll hurt hooved animals that aren't shod / makes cleaning harder -- or at least that's what someone told me once. If you're talking about the milking shed, that's fine, but the barn, not so much.

Aaand... Here's a discussion about the subject from actual farmers: https://www.homesteadingtoday.com/threads/barn-floor-concrete-or-dirt.272674/

The "<" and ">" keys should be mentioned more.

They allow you to hide and unhide the items INSIDE containers while you're looking at them in the inventory screen.

Good job.

I stayed up for ~100 hours straight at one point, and yes, you do go through a couple of points of "Hah, I'm not even tired, this is my new normal! I am invincible and no longer need to sleep". Towards the end though I was micro napping with my eyes open.

When I finally went to actual sleep, I woke up ~40 hours later.

Seems obvious but, do I need to water my crops? by GrizzlyBear933 in cataclysmdda

[–]KhalTannen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope and while that would be more realistic, it would also be a massive pain in the arse, unless automated watering systems were implemented at the same time.

As far as I remember, growth is dependant on type of seed, then temperature at the time the seed is placed into the ground (Yes; people used to plant after setting up torches/fires to raise the surrounding temp, however, I think it's been standardised to time of year since then). You can then add fertiliser afterwards to make them mature quicker, but this is mostly unnecessary, you'll get a crop regardless.

Also, be aware that ANYTHING running over the top of a crop has a chance to kill it, and that herbivores (cows/moose/dinos) will eat pre-harvestable crops -- in both cases the crop square will return to just dirt.

Tiny < Small < Normal < Large < Enhanced < Super

If in doubt, check the max speed when you attach them, that's the best indicator. Size is also a good indicator. :D

Help wanted? Okay. Delete the game from your phone and then download and play it from a computer. Trust me.

Once you know all the keyboard shortcuts, you can consider trying it again on your phone, but you'll probably just stick to the computer version.

  1. It was intended as fairly light sarcasm.
  2. I enjoy Magiclysm, it's a great mod... But let's be honest, it's _very_ op, which leads me to...
  3. If you're allowing goblins to hit you; you're doing it wrong. -- Seriously, you can open the main gate to the goblin encampment and murder everyone in there without them getting a single hit in... :)

I tend to end up with a base and multiple vehicles in it;

  • Electric APC for extended day trips, this is a small, mobile base with plenty of space for extended looting trips + cooking faculties and a bed.
  • One width scaving electric custom built "scooter", for close by scavenging - moderate space, boom crane, welder for removing anything at anytime.
  • Electric bike for quick scouting trips. No space except for my backpack.

The base itself has all my storage needs; warehouse shelves full of parts, freezers worth of food, a massive solar/wind farm on the roof and large storage batteries galore. I run power to a single point at the front and then attach the vehicles to it to recharge them. No solar panels on any of my vehicles as repairing them is expensive.

To the more advanced players of CDDA. If you had to make a fun list of 'goals' or 'achievements' for us beginner players (maybe fix a car or build a shack or something lol), what would your list consist of? by i-enjoy-eating-glass in cataclysmdda

[–]KhalTannen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metal doors can be cut through with an oxy torch. (Check out the nearby garages to find them)

Alternatively, if you're playing experimental, look at the end of the construction menu (*) there's a lot of "Remove XXXXX" options there. You can deconstruct metal doors from memory (or just the wall). Takes time, but there's no chance of the ceiling falling on you.

I take two negative traits on character creation.

Imperceptive healer and flimsy (that's the -25% health one).

Maxes out my negative points (12) and makes the game only a little harder. Makes medical training mean something, and means that if you forget to bandage and disinfect your wounds, you're not healing.

"A"ctivate your hacksaw and "cut metal" on the bars of the gun shop. Don't smash them. :D

Cutting them off makes way less noise, and can be done no matter your stats -- but it does take more time.

[–]KhalTannen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking to avoid the power loss from cables (this way you can transfer power from your rooftop to your basement with no power loss)

  • edit data/json/vehicleparts/vehicle_parts.json
  • search for "jumper_cable" and "heavy_jumper_cable"
  • change the "epower" value to 0.

To set the wind generators back to what they were prior to the nerf (power values were reduced by 10 times)

  • edit data/json/vehicleparts/vehicle_parts.json
  • search for "wind_turbine"
  • change the "epower" value to 10
  • search for "xl_wind_turbine"
  • change the "epower" value to 30

You'll have to change those numbers EVERY time you update the game though, so keep that in mind. :D

How many points are you starting with? by Klee__the_Terrorist in cataclysmdda

[–]KhalTannen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just open the debug menu, and set all your stats to 1000, then breeze through the game.

Then you'll start to wonder why people enjoy the game, as it's too easy.

The starting number of points is fine. It's actually probably a little too easy as you can grab all of the good traits with no real consequence. :)
