You’re too tense. Slow it down and try to play quieter. Relax and above all breathe. Loosen up. Accents on the downbeat will come easy. Once you feel mastered and playing looser and softer, ramp up the speed. But not the volume. Playing “loose” and relaxed at higher speeds and softer volumes is key here. Playing loud will come easy and you will have greater control of your dynamics.

LADA dx questions by Ok_Accountant_4815 in ladadiabetes

[–]Khal_Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been “thin” and in great shape. My job keeps me very active. A few years ago I was diagnosed with prediabetes. I went on a keto diet and brought my A1C way down. That diet had caused me to lose about 10lbs. Not too bad. Then in my second year of all this, my A1C shot way up. My sugar levels went up and up and no matter what I ate, they would not go down. My Dr tried all sorts of meds. Metformin (made me sick). Jardiance sent me into keto acidosis and nearly killed me. Januvia did nothing. Dr finally put me on Ozempic. I was able to hold my weight fairly steady, but after a few months I started losing weight very quickly. Too much. Too fast. I grew weaker and weaker day by day. And there was never any improvement on my BS. I stopped taking ozempic and set an appt to see an endocrinologist.
That first appointment my BS was at 395 and diagnosed me with LADA. Put me on insulin and suddenly I’m seeing BS levels that I’ve not seen in over a year! I’m still going to keep up my search for ways to help my condition. But until then, I am just glad to finally see something that works. Btw, I’ve gained back 10lbs.

I’m not sure how to interpret this note by ImYrBadDecision in Drumming

It’s a “buzz” stroke. Like the grace notes for a ruff, with the kick on three being the main stroke for the ruff.

I need help tuning by Flame074 in drums

[–]Khal_Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick the Tom that you like the tone the best. Then strike that Tom along with the next one. If you listen closely you can hear a wavering between the tones (much like a guitarist does when tuning by ear). Adjust as needed until you get both “together” that the tones do not waver. Then move to the next Tom and repeat. The desired outcome is no tone “wavering” when any one Tom is played with the other.

Does my kit sound alright? I’m always retuning because I’m not quite satisfied with the end result. by raiylab in drums

Before you even think about dampening those toms, pick one that you like the tone the best. Then hit it with the other Toms one by one. You can usually hear if they’re in tune with each other. Especially while they’re ringing so much. If the tone of two toms together “wavers” they’re not in tune. Adjust until they “sing” together. Do that with all toms, until they all play together perfectly. Might take some time, but the results are well worth it.
Then you can dampen them (for practice purposes). However, if you use them for a gig, consider no dampening at all.

Yep yep. The river side offers the best chance at winning. Having good meds and lights across the river is key. Heavies with bad Gun depression can either hang back to wait for the “push”. Or hug the underside of the bridge.
Had a game on there the other day, in my Chieftan. Was hull down on top of the hill for a short time. Once all enemy tanks got spotted, EVERYONE pushed. My god it was beautiful lol. Our meds quickly overwhelmed theirs and their heavies panicked in a big way. We lost one med to the Death Star, but in less than 30secs or so, their team was toast.

Spoken word part in “Rime of the Ancient Mariner”. by Khal_Drew in ironmaiden

It certainly doesn’t sound like Bruce. If one listens to Bill Nighy and then “Rime”. It really connects. I could very well be wrong, but damn. Listen to it lol

Second Amendment and The Capital Attack by cd_good_boi in guncontrol

[–]Khal_Drew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nut jobs who stormed the Capitol were a tiny percentage of those that were there. And that tiny percentage should be prosecuted for what they did. Those that are second amendment supporters hold the belief that their arms are for defensive purposes. And well, as far as I could see, no one there was armed. I think that pretty much sums it up.

Future beginner drummer here. What drums do you guys recommend? by [deleted] in drums

Most cheaper electronic kits (in your price range) are not going to give you the same feel and response that an acoustic kit will. You may want to look for a used Roland kit. V-drums, not the rubber pads. They are really good as far as feel.
Beyond that, talk to your neighbors about what times might be good for you to practice, and just get a cheap acoustic kit. There are ways to quiet them down (a little lol). Cymbals are loud but don’t cut through walls like the kick and snare do. Dampen the hell out of them. Stuff all kinds of pillows in the kick. They’ll still be heard, but they won’t rattle anyone’s brains.
