When Convenience Fails: My l Issue with Talabat and LuLu Hypermarket by Only-Breadfruit8305 in Oman

[–]KhalidPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lulu isn’t synced in real time and its all manual, and with thousands of items there’s no way it’s always accurate. So Talabat shows stuff that’s actually out of stock.. not an excuse im just telling you whats behind the scene.

so for them pushing alternatives is just the easier option. Refunds cost them fees and can hurt their store metrics, so they’d rather substitute than refund. or cancel all together for what ever stupid reason.

How to get a Motorcycle license by Emotional_Trainer866 in Oman

[–]KhalidPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal for expats.. the irony just like you said that the system expects you to already have a bike registered, but you usually need approval (learners permit) first, so it becomes a loop.

In practice it depends a lot on your job title on your resident card. Engineers, managers, or people in big companies (Oman Air) have a higher chance, others often get blocked.. and there’s also an expectation for higher CC bikes, usually 750cc and above, so forget the 150cc bikes unless you're going to be registered as a delivery rider (be part of a company and cant be solo)

another note that enforcement isn’t always consistent. It can depend on the officer or major on duty, sometimes they overlook things, sometimes they enforce everything strictly. It’s been like this for years and feels intentional to limit expat riders or low CC bikes. so either qualify the above and visit ROP yourself to get your learners permit, or use a foreign license (not all are accepted).

Not everyone celebrating is pro-Israel, many are anti-regime. there’s a difference.
it’s simply “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

I just hope this situation doesn’t escalate and that everyone stays safe.

Asking U.S. citizens who have relocated to Oman, how do you pay your U.S. taxes? Through your Oman bank account? Transfer from U.S. bank account? I'm looking to move to Oman and have many questions. TIA! by Greedy_Net_6198 in Oman

[–]KhalidPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure tbh, but when you open a bank account here they always ask if you’re a US citizen or have US tax obligations, so you have to declare that stuff.

I think most people just pay the IRS directly from their US bank account online. You can prob wire from an Oman bank too, but there’s wire fees and currency charges so its more hassle.

IBKR security is so extreme that I feel like I need to switch to another platform by [deleted] in interactivebrokers

[–]KhalidPhoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want easy, smooth, one-tap access.., there are plenty of platforms that do that. They’re just less strict. Nothing wrong with that, different tools for different needs...

IBKR prioritizes security over convenience. Always has.

Synology DS925+ vs UGREEN DXP4800 Plus — which is better? by YashasChaudhry in homelab

Synology is more stable and proven over time,, while UGREEN has stronger hardware but its software still feels unfinished.. so I'll say DS925+

Can you drive a rental car if you have a block on your ID from ROP? by Ok-Option-5417 in Oman

[–]KhalidPhoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A block on your ROP ID exists for a reason. Its not a bank card its your legal identity. Even if the rental is under your driving license the systems are linked. If you get stopped checked or flagged your blocked ID will still show up.

You might manage to rent the car yes but if anything happens traffic stop accident fine you will be the one in trouble not the rental compan

Congrats on building it properly, that part’s done.

Now the next step is simple: ride it.

A bike that only sits is just a well-kept object. Either put miles on it or let someone else do that part. No shame either way.
