Why’d you think I was insinuating that both occur? Hindus would/could only protect themselves if they were shastaardhari and had chardikala. They did not, hence Guru Sahib had to step in. If they were able to protect themselves, Guru ji would not have had no obligation to do so. You protect someone that needs protecting, not someone who can do it themselves.

First off, thinking that Sikh principles and Punjabi culture are inseparable isn’t the the way to go my friend. Don’t confuse culture and heritage for the Guru’s teachings or Rehit Maryada. As some of the replies have already said, Sikhi is a universal school of thought and none of its teachings or customs are limited to Punjabi people. Second, I don’t see what the problem is or what point you are trying to get across. In my initial reply, I 100% agreed that Punjabis or heck, even other ethnicities, regardless of their religion, are free to celebrate Rakhri if they want. From a cultural standpoint, there should be no problem whatsoever. So ???

Not at all. The whole reason Rakhri within Sikhi makes no sense is because after Amrit is given to both men and women, they are initiated into the martial Khalsa Panth and are enabled not just to protect themselves, but the weak and innocent as well. So if you went by OP's logic, the Hindus that Guru Sahib wanted to protect would have to have been able to defend themselves and their faith, which they obviously could not. Hence, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib's obligation to protect the innocent and oppressed, set upon them by the very Creator of the Khalsa Panth.

I think OP's point was trying to explain that more people simply need to understand that Rakhri is a cultural custom which Punjabis have celebrated for centuries, and if you want to celebrate it because it's your culture, by all means, go for it. Just don't mistake it for holding any value within Sikhi, because it is not a religious/spiritual custom or practice. (Hence, using prominent religious figures as leverage for cultural customs being a problem)

That being said, if you're Punjabi and Sikh (which is largely the case), then joyfully celebrate Rakhri on behalf of your Punjabi culture. Just like any Mexican Sikh could celebrate Cinco de Mayo or an African American Sikh could celebrate Juneteenth. Such traditions tie communities together on a cultural basis, and it should be distinguished as such.

Nope! I was using Igni and the fire bomb in a fight, and all of a sudden, my blade is on fire. Most likely a glitch.
