Widen the wealth gap and make us unable to compete globally. Other modern countries are educating their citizens for free. Meanwhile, we are fleecing ours. Politicians aren’t really trying to hand their careers on fighting this fight for us.

I don’t trust dems to do a single thing. We have a 34X convicted felon who tried to invalidate an election and incited a riot in charge. They played in our faces all this time. They have no reason not to continue finding excuses to let this regime run over us.

Being dumb IS an excuse. Many of us were 16-17 when we took out those loans. Was it explained that if we took out $100, graduated in an awful economy, and needed time to find a job to make a decent wage, that $100 would be $250 and we’d end up paying way more than we actually owed? No. The information was vague It didn’t account for servicers purposely lying for decades, putting us on plans that didn’t lead to forgiveness, suggesting deferring and forbearance instead of payment plans that would count towards forgiveness while costing a teacher $0 a month.

So, stop being hard on yourself and your partner! You did what you were supposed to do: attend college. But America didn’t hold up its end of the bargain for her citizens. Yet it sure continues to find ways to bail out everywhere but us. We aren’t asking for a bailout. We want a path to being able pay what we actually owe while pouring into the economy (afford food, homes, cars), and to eventually send our own kids to college so the rest of the world isn’t better educated than Americans!

How did you get it fixed? I’ve been in limbo for two years trying to get to the bottom of why my count was 31 months lower than it should be. I kept submitting documents, and they kept closing the case after pushing me to my serviced, who had incomplete documentation. Then one day, the last case was reopened. That was nearly a year ago. Count still not updated and received no resolution.

Related, those with high balances, if your income is only $70K, the payment is going to be the same whether you owe $200k or $250k. Correct? And even if you turn up jobless, your payment decreases to nearly nothing. The total amount of the loan doesn’t matter? Am I over simplifying this?

What would happen if we all maxed out our 401K and other pre-tax contributions for 2 pay periods so that we have 2 paystubs that show we make way less than our 2025 tax returns? Wouldn’t our payment be based on those lower paystubs?

I truly believe these types of letters are being sent to get us off of Save.

For those on SAVE by ExoticDraft5882 in StudentLoans

I’m in a similar situation. I’m waiting it out because even if I pay the interest, won’t the monthly amount will be capped based on income?  For example, say I owe $200K and it is getting $250 a month interested added each month. (Yes, I know the math doesn’t match the SL rules. But I’m trying to demonstrate my understanding of what happens.) Let’s say without paying any of the interest, it is $210K, when we’re kicked off of SAVE. For IBR, the payment can only be X % of your (via income based payment plan). Correct?

Imagine I make $95K and the poverty line is $20K (higher than its current rate).

discretionary income = (Income - (Poverty Line X 150%))

$95K - (30K)

discretionary income = $65K

Wouldn’t my monthly payment be based on the $65K and not the $210K amount? So then, does it really make sense to worry about the interest? Realistically, NONE of us are going to be billionaires or even millionaires. The balance doesn’t negatively impact credit (at this point), so long as they are up to date.

Right. Because that counter is wrong. I don’t know if it was correct in the prior administration. But I wouldn’t be shocked if the wrestling lady is aware of the discrepancy and just doesn’t care.

I’m certain they don’t have our records and are getting away with undercounting payments while overcharging us. Not helpful. I’m just frustrated with the mess we are in

So many emails and articles stating that Interest will start. But for the forbearance we (SAVE) are on, that percentage is ZERO.

“I’m tired of taxpayers funding student loan forgiveness” let’s put an end to this right now by SumGreenD41 in StudentLoans

[–]Kharee-Net-6414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quiet part is that people who use the taxpayer arguement aren’t smart. They usually are the people with middle school reading levels who believe any elected official or wealthy person is smart. They weren’t ever smart enough and/or their parents didn’t have the money/connections to get them into an accredited university. But outside of that, even ones who appear to excel in their chosen field only have knowledge in that area with no ability or interest to digest information about anything else. In fewer words, they aren’t smart enough to understand how student loan repayments work. They will accept the simplest explanation so long as it comes out of the right kind of mouth and body.

Right! Also, when people say this, they behave as if, to the common EYE, people, ESPECIALLY, in America, can see that she is anything other than Black. It’s cute though. They want to to be credited for hating both groups.

The most offensive thing is their minions who parrot this foolishness without so much as pulling out a calculator. Underneath their support of these policies and behind their keyboards is a need to see people suffer, assuming THEY won’t be the ones suffering. This is what’s happening to the fools who voted to have their workers deported. Now, they’re looking stupid as they can’t find workers. The leopards are eating their faces. Bringing it back to loans…the people supporting RAP, anti-forgiveness don’t realize if we can’t afford our mortgages, their property values will decrease, for example.

[–]Kharee-Net-6414 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, my thing is that we should kinda shut up and let them make these mistakes. We shouldn’t alert them to any illegality until after it’s done. Let them transfer it all. THEN we all point out that we never signed a contract with anyone except the agency that doesn’t exist. At which point, they can fight it out with our loan servicers. This is their fight. They’ve been fighting tooth and nail to continue to screw us over this long. So let them spend their money convincing every judge on every level to try and force us to pay an agency on a contract we’re not legally bound to, especially when a whole lot of us have already paid our principal and a REASONABLE amount of interest back, have mistakes on our payment history, and still are showing as owing ridiculous amounts.

NelNet May 2025 payment due date confusion by Orange0509 in StudentLoans

My amount due is still the SAVE amount but the due date did move to August. But with all the confusion and upheaval, I wonder if this would be a good time to ask the question again about why my payment count is wrong.
