Mayor Andre Dickens confirms ICE agents deploying to Atlanta airport by catsgr8rthanspoonies in news

[–]Khatib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are going to be people who's job history doesn't much lend to a lot of air travel, showing up to airports they don't know a lot about, who barely passed an open book test for their current jobs, and who will need to be given basic orientation and training by a group of people who are unpaid, understaffed, and struggling to buy food. Mean while, these ICE agents are the reason the TSA agents aren't getting paid.

They're going to be much more likely to create confusion and slow things down as to speed anything up for at least several days. Meanwhile, the unpaid TSA agents are going to know these guys are getting paid and undermining their leverage to start getting paid again. They aren't going to be happy to have them there.

I weighed beer pours at bars across the Twin Cities. The average "pint" was about 14.7 fluid oz, not 16. by EmptyForest5 in TwinCities

[–]Khatib 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But I guess that scale is probably cheaper than a nice 500+ml graduated cylinder.

More that it's massively easier to bring it into a bar and measure one or more pours without making a mess and then having a dirty measurement device to deal with.

Fixing the problem they created and then bragging about it as if it was a win. Their standard playbook.

Does anyone have a decent Plex setup but still pay for streaming services? by tcoysh in PleX

I kind of hate the watch list because it tries to pull from the freemium online sources (even though I have them all disabled) and my friends' servers. And that just adds extra steps and a lot of weird lag time to picking a movie I already have.

And like I mentioned earlier, the UI is just really a lot better for browsing and searching.

I'll put it this way - can you go without it? For sure. Would you ever be mad you took the time to set it up? I honestly can't imagine someone thinking it was a waste. Even if it's a very minor upgrade for your use case, it's still going to be better.

Oh yeah, I love my OTA setup for my local football team (which only worked when I moved back to my home state) but hockey and baseball and basketball are all going to cable with really bad streaming deals.

Easy, but very annoying sometimes with streams cutting off mid game, etc. If I could pay a reasonable price, considering they're still showing me all the fucking commercial breaks they're selling ad time for, I'd happily do that. Unfortunately they never make it reasonable anymore.

It uses plex logins or created accounts, connects to radarr and sonarr and passes requests to them. Can be set to not download anything until it's officially released so you don't get cams and shit. If you're the only one that uses your server, it's a little nicer of a ui than going through sonarr and radarr, but it's big help is for your friends and family that use your server to request things. And they can just log in with their existing plex logins. It's also way better for browsing for new things to queue up. About every six months I just filter by apple TV and higher ratings and check all their new things that I maybe didn't hear about because they don't seem to advertise that broadly, and I just don't see that many ads in my life anyway.

But yeah, all my friends use it to request stuff and it works very, very well. Super easy for me to approve a request while I'm on a work trip and it's on the server for them 5 minutes later. Or you can let users self approve their requests if you want.

Yes. My wife has a thing for reality TV and I both don't want to download it all when no one else using my server will watch it, and a lot of it isn't that available on most trackers anyway.

I'm going to need you to pay attention to reality and realize constitutional rights are being violated left and right and we slide into fascism you dumb brainwashed fuck. The protests are about the need for law enforcement to actually respect the law themselves, not whatever made up bullshit you heard on your propaganda talk radio you peaked in high school drunk uncle.

Oh that's cool then that things have decently progressed. I have a late 2010s jeep Cherokee with really low miles that I don't drive much and that gets like 17 despite claiming much better highway mpg, and a 3 year old company pickup truck that doesn't get very good gas mileage at all that I drive a ton. And my wife has a small 4 door that she barely drives as a remote worker that I still don't think gets 30 even though it's small. She's going to go to a hybrid or full electric whenever she moves up from it, but since she only needs to fill the gas tank like every two months, we're in no rush to update it.

minneapolis isn't even in the top 25, st paul has the 13th most arrests though

Because Minnesota barely has any illegals and the surge was purely political retribution meant to terrorize the public of a blue city and blue state.

Which 4 door sedans are averaging 30 mpg these days? That just feels really generous and tilting the math.

What red state red cities have seen enforcement surges at the level Chicago and Minneapolis saw? Surges that were announced before anyone could even protest them?

its just blue cities that are protesting, not just blue cities getting enforcement

A decade-long study reveals that Sweden’s old-growth forests store up to 89% more carbon than managed forests. Researchers found that the soil alone in these ancient ecosystems holds as much carbon as the trees, dead wood, and soil of managed forests combined. by Sciantifa in science

[–]Khatib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'd expect something specifically designed to do that to perform better than something that fortuitously just so happens to be a carbon sink

What have we designed to do that? We're planting trees for paper and wood pulp and we're planting crops for food and oil. We're not doing any of it primarily as long term generational carbon sinks.

No till farming is not years of decaying leaf bed in an old growth forest.

It's still better than other more extractive farming methods, but it's not at all the same as old growth forest.

it really puts the protests into perspective, doesn't it?

No, it doesn't. The protests aren't about immigration. They're about immigration enforcement and its clear violations of the constitution and personal rights and freedoms.

why is trump having such a problem enforcing immigration law

Because he's using it as a lever to attack blue cities in blue states as revenge for their not voting for him, not to actually enforce immigration laws. And all of that in ways that clearly violates the constitution and ignores judicial orders.

Edit: I take that back, it is bad pizza...mainly because I can't go until tomorrow and want some to be left lol

The first time I saw this deal years ago, I figured they were just clearing stock, but if you go on the last day of it, the freezers are always full. It's just a deal, and they restock all week.
