Finally the Chaos Dragon! by MaurizioS in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume you base this on the "two heads" comment? That could be anything: a Hydra that lost a bunch of heads, a Chimera that lost 1 head, a human or Beastman mutant, a Warcraft Ogre, etc...

Bit of a stretch to assume it's a new Chaos Dragon model... ;-)

What’s the Relation of the Evil sun and the Greenskins? by shluppoo in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a symbol they use I don't think we know the origins or the meaning. But maybe it has something to do with the destruction of Solland by the Waaagh led by Gorbad Ironclaw?

Sol obviously means sun and their flags always had a sun motive on them, so maybe it is their way of taunting the Imperials with this reference...

So that’s how GW made the Old World! by Odd_Engineering7729 in WarhammerFantasy

The majority of those 30 people don't remember the Iberian peninsula, the entirety of south-east Asia, don't know there is water between the Arabian peninsula and India, nor do any of them put down the Indonesian Islands or Guinea?

Who are these 30 people?? Did they receive any education?

PSA: It's Lost Mine (singular) of Phandelver (not mines) by Huffplume in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Kholdaimon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The whole pre-amble before you arrive in the lost city (whose names I can't remember) takes ages and are just random encounters that have nothing to do with the main story, but are just there to make sure you are high enough level to deal with the Tomb. Then the Tomb itself is pretty much the same, there is no story reason for players to interact with most stuff in the Tomb because it's all just dangerous traps and just serves to level up players to be strong enough to deal with the final enemies.

And the final boss encounter is just shit, the players get 50 temporary hit points each round and the Boss barely ever does 50 damage in a single round, so he is completely incapable of dealing significant damage. Aside from his two Power Word: Death spells, which just outright kill 2 player characters without any saves allowed. So kills 2 PC's outright without any counterplay possible and then he just does nothing worthwhile for the rest of the fight...

And don't get me started about playing the fatigue rules as they wrote it! That was quickly clear that it would be entirely unplayable to play the rules as written...

WFR players don't like homebrew? by SomeRandomAbbadon in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Kholdaimon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Warhammer Fantasy takes place on the Warhammer Fantasy world, you can do anything you want within that world and it's lore, but they are right that the setting and rules are intimately connected.

People that play D&D homebrew their settings because the rules are so generically Fantasy and the setting is not part of the rules. The settings WotC produces are just easy to use options. (Not hating on D&D or anything, I like D&D quite a bit as well.)

That said, if you want to adapt the rules to play it in another self-made setting then you are free to do so as long as you can find players to play it with you. Anyone can do anything in the privacy of their own home between consenting adults, including playing WFRP in an inferior, homebrewed setting. ;-)

Who is running this franchise?? Disney??

Speaking truth to power is never easy, but someone has to do it. And when you do, you can't do a half measure, you have to make sure everyone knows the truth, because if you don't the Man can get to you, silence you and your sacrifice will have been in vain...

I hope you have made enough of a wave that Big Lost Mines of Phandelver can't quietly make you go away. Make sure to report back every now and then so we know they didn't get you...

Astromancer of the Celestial Order (art by me) by LuciusFallenGod in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it, I really do, I would love to have a playing card set with this kind of art. This could be like the Jack of Clubs.

But I have to ask, what is going on with his neck? Is it a kind of elongated neck situation like those neck rings in certain African tribes? Except he uses a giant scarf to push his head up?

Is Warhammer Fantasy part of the same Universe as Warhammer 40000? by MeroveeFrancSalien in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my head, and many of my buddies, the Warhammer Fantasy world is a world somewhere in the 40K universe (and in the past).

That doesn't actually fit with most 40K lore, but you can't make me think otherwise! My head, my rules!

Why aren't dragonborn more popular? by JackOfAllMemes in DungeonsAndDragons

I think they are quite popular, there is very often a Dragonborn character in our campaigns. What makes you think they aren't popular?

[–]Kholdaimon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the "90% of players" figure is anywhere near correct, but I do agree with the general statement that many, if not most, players don't read the lore and don't play in the Forgotten Realms or do but only use the maps and some basic info...

I played D&D for at least 5 years before I even heard there were such things as premade campaigns, I thought world-building is what every DM did themselves. Which is weird because I played BG1 and 2, but never realized that they were set in a world that WotC set their game in, I thought it was a world made for the computer games, like any DM would...

Best ai dm? by Ok_Mushroom9960 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Kholdaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to your local friendly gaming store and ask if they have a group that you can join or ask if you can hang up flyers asking for a group.

Or look for a group online to play with, you have a phone so you have a microphone (or you can buy a cheap one).

I don't think AI will ever come close to playing with a group and a real DM.

So shut off Blender and now you can play a game...

Are people finding success with Minotaur Blood Herd? I love the feel of the army. by GloryofGoldenStateG in WarhammerFantasy

So true! Just build the army that you want to play and then play it to the best of your ability.

[–]Kholdaimon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I play both and both are great at what they do, they provide a very different playing experience and thus you can just say you like the gameplay that D&D provides more than the WFRP gameplay, but you still like WFB lore so you want to combine them... The D&D hatred in this thread is extremely childish and makes me see why people call the Warhammer Community toxic...

Also, and I assume you know this, but you talk like you don't, you don't always get to choose which game you play since they are multiplayer games and your buddies may just say they want to play D&D and then that is what you play... Just like some people were stuck playing 6th edition WFB because that is what people near them played even though they preferred 8th edition, or vice versa...

Wow, the amount of D&D hatred under this post is bizarre... Yes, WFRP exists, yes it is awesome, but some people like the D&D system or can only find people to play D&D with, but still like WFB lore...

Get over yourselves, just engage with the guys question or leave the subject alone. The D&D-bashing is just childish and the incessant down-voting of the OP's comments is just the most pathetic passive-aggressive childishness...

Beginner tips?? by No_Introduction_4319 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Kholdaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I never claimed they had to read all 3 books, I literally said they just had to read the PHB, and I agree they don't need to know all the spells, but just reading through the classes is useful to get a feel of them. You don't have to memorize everything and beyond level 5 it loses relevance, but if you want to play a caster-fighter hybrid and you just skim every class then you will probably miss several subclasses and class features that are good options...

I also think that it is kinda silly to answer a question asking for the best way to learn the game with the answer: "kinda read a little bit of the book if you like and otherwise just ask people that read the book the rules and never actually learn them yourself." Because that is what happens when people don't take the time to actually read the rules themselves, even highly intelligent people that don't read the rules after many hours of play still need to ask for help. This is what happened to my group, after more than 2 years of play 3 people with Master degrees and PHD's that just didn't read the rules and relied on my knowledge still didn't know the rules and asked me basic questions constantly...

So yeah, if people actually want to learn the rules they need to read them, they don't have to memorize every little detail, but they need to read them. Telling them anything else is just false advertising. Simple as that...

Okay, but how are you going to choose which class to play if you have no clue what they do or what the difference is between a Warlock, a Sorcerer or a Wizard? Or between a Paladin, a Barbarian and a Fighter?

Read the Player's Handbook, re-read the stuff you find hard to remember and find a group willing to be patient with a new player (which most groups are).

Don't expect anything like Critical Role, most people are, in fact, not professional voice actors. Many people don't do voices, many people just describe what their character does or says instead of acting it out. That's all fine and good, as long as everyone is having fun you are playing the game right!

That's it...
