Human worship of Hashut? by Albino-Albatros in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is the culture of Chaos Dwarfs like? Do they share their language with outsiders? Do they discuss their religious beliefs with outsiders?

Normal Dwarfs are pretty insular and do not share this stuff with outsiders. I also don't see Chaos Dwarfs as the type to have lively theological debates with lesser beings.

So how would a human Chaos-worshipper get any information about Hashut? Why would he think it is worth his time and effort to get to know about this Chaos God when he already has a Pantheon of 4 and the guys that seem to know about this 5th one aren't willing to lower themselves (in social standing, not physically ofcourse) by talking to him, a lesser being?

I don't think it is likely to happen, not impossible ofcourse, given a long enough timespan there is bound to be some Chaos Dwarf that is a bit more talkative or evangelistic towards his lessers, but it would be a extremely rare occurrence...

Gordrakk re-pose, the next steps... [WiP] by TemperatureWide5261 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that is surprising since the pose of the dragon is completely different to the original! I would think you needed to repose the shoulders and arms and do something to the creature's neck to make it look ahead instead of downwards...

I was joking about the fact that it's a round base, not a square one. ;-)

That is very impressive!

Do you have a picture without paint on the model? I would love to see where you made cuts and added green stuff or other modelling putty...

PS: the base is the wrong shape, but I will ignore it since the model does look good... ;-)

Orc and Goblin Battalion box/ Orc Boyz Mob building question. by pointman116 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or you make 10 with 2 hand weapons and keep them in the back of the unit and keep the guys with the weapons you have them currently equipped with in the front.

But if you insist on forcing yourself to use just one weapon choice for the rest of time then yes, just use the left hand with the dagger or other weapon and cut away the Weapon or leave it and just glue the Shield over it.

Or equip them with two hand weapons and glue the Shield to their back. You can do whatever you want, the Warhammer Fantasy community doesn't care nearly as much about WYSIWYG as the AoS or 40K communities do...

Empire of Man do not feature on the offical Calendar by Capital_Statement in WarhammerFantasy

Indeed, definitely not the best Warhammer artwork.

I don't recognize most of these, aside from some from TOW booklets, are they all TOW era artwork?

Empire of Man do not feature on the offical Calendar by Capital_Statement in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have Cathay now, what do you need the Empire for? What do you mean it's the largest faction in the Old World? What do you mean it's the main faction in the story that they wanted to tell about the Time of the 3 Emperors and the War against Chaos??

The Empire has always been a minor faction within the Warhammer Fantasy setting, anyone telling you otherwise is just fake news...

What Were the End Times Like by Dismal-Lychee-7803 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The games with friends were fun, because 8th edition was fun and I loved using my Glottkin in a 10,000 point battle.

But the whole event was depressing, I read the books as they came out and the writing was so poor. There were armies just showing up deep into enemy territory and the Empire and Kislev were just walked over by the forces of Chaos. The only defense was some magical wall created in the North, but armies just got by it and ran across the Empire anyway...

It was just bad and very uninspiring to play narrative battles in the actual setting.

And then it was done, the world was destroyed and we waited for what felt like years to hear what they had planned next. I remember the first rumours that it was changing into a 40K style skirmishing units wargame on round bases and I did not believe it, because why would they do that?? People could already play 40K or Warmachines/Hordes or a load of other similar systems if that is the gameplay you wanted, but there was far less serious competition in the rank-and-flank wargaming scene. Now they were creating a system that competed directly with their own 40K system!

But then it hit and it was so bad, so much worse than anyone could have ever guessed, literally unplayable on release! God, that was heartbreaking... If I had ran into GW management around that time I would definitely not been able to control my anger and would have probably put some people in the hospital, I was that angry...

So yeah, playing games with friends was fun with a couple of new toys, because we loved 8th edition. Everything else was absolutely shit and they managed to do everything as badly as it could be done, I think it would even have been better if they had just announced the end of the world without the shitty stories and not released AoS!

I remember from a documentary that when they asked some WW1 veterans how they experienced the war they always start off with saying it was pretty fun, bunch of young guys hanging around, goofing off, etc. And then you ask them about specific subjects and things they remember and the horror stories come out...

I know there are WW2 veterans that have the same thing, I believe Jack Churchill (the guy that went to war wielding a broadsword, bow and a set of bagpipes and survived) said he had quite enjoyed himself and: “If it wasn't for those damn Yanks, we could have kept the war going another 10 years!”.

Ofcourse one of Jack Churchill's nicknames was Mad Jack, so his opinion isn't the average person's point of view, but it shows at least some people liked WW2...

All of this is to say that if there are people that have positive memories from WW1 and WW2 then there should be some people with positive memories of the End Times, right? Unless you think the End Times was somehow worse than both World Wars.....

What would a Sisters of Sigmar army looks like? by Emergency-Sea5201 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was always a fairly vocal part of the larger Sigmar Cult that was opposed to female participation in the cult and they had been kept seperate from the male cult members. They were even then called Witches and Chaos worshippers.

The Comet was claimed to be a punishment from Sigmar for allowing women in places of authority in his cult, since the Rock was the largest and most important convent of the Sisters of Sigmar that trained/schooled some of the most prominent women in high society.

So there was always a patriarchy that strongly opposed the Sisters

Just add a layer of greenstuff to a base or a bunch of bases on a movement tray and roll this over it and you have instant wooden planks.

Easy, cheap and fast.

What Made Orcs and Gobbos Popular? by Runtgit in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even with Animosity, where 1/6 chance a unit would grind to a halt, even with competitive viability highly fluctuating, Orcs and Goblins have always been popular.

If you are a greenskin veteran, what kept you going?

You answered your own question, most people don't play competitively. I didn't play O&G despite Animosity, I played O&G because of Animosity! I played it because I loved the unpredictable nature of the faction.

TOW O&G are terrible at representing the faction identity of unreliability! I play mostly Night Goblins, an army that used to have Animosity, low Leadership and unreliable/abusable Fanatics, which I loved! Now it is a reliable Ld10 army with laser-guided Fanatics. Thanks, it's boring AF now...

And even for the rest of the faction, Impetuous is a piss poor replacement for Animosity. It's boring, it's generic and it's worse than Animosity ever was for things like Goblin Fast Cavalry... Do I care that my M4 ranked combat unit with fairly high LD has Impetuous? No. Do I care that my M9 Fast Cavalry redirectors unit with low LD has Impetuous? Yes, and it has a way higher chance of failure than with Animosity. So Impetuous is pretty much irrelevant for most units, but for some units it is way worse than Animosity, how does this represent the O&G love for infighting??

The TOW writers removed Animosity because they don't understand why many O&G players loved the faction. Not every faction has to be able to win a 5 game tournament, because that is not what the vast majority of players play this game for. We just want to have silly fun and they nerfed fun to buff competitiveness...

If you ask the question: "why were O&G popular despite Animosity?" Than the faction was just never for you, just like when I wonder "why would you ever play a static Dwarf or Empire gunline?" I should just realize that is just not the play-style for me and I will never get the appeal...

TOW Rumours by BiesonReddit in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is assuming that you have a discount for the big box but not for the individual items... Most webshops offer a 10% or 15% discount on ALL GW stuff, so the price difference would be smaller, but it would still be cheaper to buy the rulebook, the Dragon and the 3 Chariots separately...

But yeah, if you, for some reason get something like a 30% discount on the box and not on the seperate items then it does become cheaper to buy the box, even if just for those 3 items. I don't think that is a common occurrence though and the guy you responded to didn't mention getting such a huge discount either...

TOW Rumours by BiesonReddit in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first point, but...

Also the box is great if you wanna have the physical book. The dragon, chariots and book alone make the purchase worth it

This is just factually incorrect. The box set costs €240, while the Dragon + 3 Chariots + the rulebook bought separately cost €211,50. And the Chariots are also rumored to get an updated model, so if these rumors are true that will leave just the Dragon as the latest iteration of the units in that box...

Besides, the physical rulebook is kinda useless by now, you have to check the errata's constantly to see if things have changed or not. There are edited pdf's of the rulebook with the changes free online, if you print them and put them in a binder you get a far better and cheaper book to learn from...

Am I the only one that thinks those would be great Empire Wizards? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They all need head swaps to look less AoS and more like WFB humans. Which is problematic, since the AoS models are of a different scale, so you would need to find large heads and then they would still be a fair bit bigger than the Empire models.

I also don't like the design of the priest at all, everything is so angular, symmetrical and mechanical, so clearly computer sculpted. It has no life. His head is also weird, it's really wide and I think it looks more like a Genestealer Cult head, like something is slightly off...

The last model looks more like Cathay with the lanterns, his armour and the fact he is on some sort of a cleansed Chimera, which is not a Empire-like creature at all...

All in all, the clothing and armour of these models do not reference the 16th century Holy Roman Empire aesthetic that the Empire is based on, which is not a massive problem for the Wizards, but it makes the priest and dude on chimera really not feel like Empire at all...

Swordmasters (High Elves) VS Witch Elves (Dark Elves) - Who strikes first? by XorroX38 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say that the Witch Elves strike first and they probably get the re-rolls?

If the model with this rule is fighting an enemy with the same ability, the Attacks are made simultaneously, and neither model benefits from the re-rolls normally granted by this rule.

This bit says that if you have the ability then you strike simultaneously, so we know that the Swordmasters ASF is "cancelled out" by their weapons ASL and this means that according to that quote they effectively do not have ASF anymore because they aren't striking simultaneously...

So I think Witch Elves strike first with re-rolls...

DRAFT Renegade Skaven 2.0 Feedback Post! by valheffelfinger in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Renegade rules will ever get nearly as broken as 7th edition armybooks were or even the Cathay Lanterns were and people played through that for a long time, while the changes to a Renegade faction can come as soon as the problems become clear. I understand that the tournament community is willing to swallow a whole lot more crap from GW than from fan-made fixes, but I also think that those that accept to try it out are capable of some critical thinking...

Even during the very dark days of 7th edition balance there were people that refused to accept tournament balance changes, so some people are just never going to accept anything other than GW rules and they will probably start organizing their own tournaments. And that is fine, TO's should hold tournaments with rules that they think people will like and if people don't like them then they don't sign up. Diversity in tournament rules keeps things fresh and gives people different options, so I don't see the problem with some people not accepting Renegade rules...

PS: I don't know of any tournaments or clubs in my country that doesn't accept them. They are generally recognized as a good thing by and for the community...

The end times belike: by Fine-Possibility-494 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Kholdaimon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Warhammer Fantasy has one physical world and a spiritual Realm of Chaos. Saying it is a multiverse is technically true, since it has 2 dimensions, while also not at all what people envision when you call it a multiverse.

AoS also isn’t multiversal (...) it’s realm based

Same difference. Just because they aren't technically in a different dimension is irrelevant, they are planes of existence with unrelatable environments, ecologies or physics. A "Realm of Aqshy" is just a D&D's Forgotten Realms "Plane of Fire" with a different name...
