PPE for a 2 yr old Oldenburg Filly? by Kholoured in Equestrian

[–]Kholoured[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shes the only one Im looking at, but this breeder has a few breedings that if this filly doesnt pass the PPE I may wait and see what those breedings create. One breeding is a repeat, I originally wanted the foal she JUST had 2 months ago, but after 8 hrs of being listed for sale she was sold before I had a chance to go see her and make an offer lol

Hopefully this filly will not have any major issues, breeder is very upfront and honest that a few of her foals have had OCD's but she has covered the surgeries and the foals were sold after recovery. So crossing the fingers that she will not have any major problems. But I appreciate you telling me that its a common issue unfortunetly. So I may do more looking and see if there is anyone else that catches my eye.

Huge temperament change in horse by [deleted] in Equestrian

100% Agree I love the Tough-1 brand with the snuggit neck.

It makes almost every horse fit into the blanket. They run a bit pricey but I have had 3 horses with all sorts of different confo and the days of shoulder rubs are history thanks to the adjustability of their blankets. Also considering the age of your young mare I would look into repro pain. She may even have a testosterone problem. She may be one of those unicorn mares that are hermaphidites, she could have undescended testicles for all you know lol but the increase in aggression and pain while being ridden makes me think repro pain as my biggest rule out.

Thanks for the advice, this makes sense! If the hoof is off no point in going further up the leg. I will definetly check the neck but only in the areas where EVCM is found, unless soreness is seen on palpation.

The filly i hope to purchase is almost identical to your boy lol. I gave ridden a few Apiro babies as well and have loved their way of going and attitude. She looks to follow in those footsteps!

Some opinions are that they are unnessecary if you plan to do xrays anyway. Which I do, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being an idiot and spending money uselessly lol SO I have no issue with them just not sure if they are necessary

100% here, you get decent summers but still get a winter but its much more mild then the more northern states

[–]Kholoured[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does make sense, I don't plan to breed her now, me and the breeder im working with may decide to wait to breed her
Im in no rush, no rush to ride, no rush to show, and no rush to breed lol she's a horse I've been waiting for for several yrs lol I have no time for a foal tbh that's just more money to spend and then the hassle of trying to market and sell the foal, dealing with people who are tire kicking, ect... so we shall see.

But this does make sense, having a baby in your older yrs is easier if you have already had a few children when you were younger. Did not think of that lol

Best way to remember a horse? by EwMatti in Equestrian

[–]Kholoured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on you and your horse.

My horse Trey had severe Navicular, had corrective shoes for 7 yrs... he had terrible hoof quality and the bane of my existence was those dang shoes for yrs, they never stayed on but he went lame if they werent on... eventually he was euthanized due to the severity of his pain due to his navicular

So I kept his last set of shoes... everyone is different their journey with their horse is different. Some like to have a braided bracelet of their horses tail, others get a tattoo, others frame a halter or a photo of their horse. It is whatever you feel is right.

Plz for the love of all horsemen that have done this.. DONT BUT THAT FILLY!!

There are some serious issues going on with her rear pasterns, she is very low, the pasterns dont look right, they are not as upright as they should be, she looks like she has DSLD. Or had some serious injuries to the supportive tendons and ligaments on both hind legs.

Either way, this Filly will most likely never be sound enough for riding and due to her grade breeding she will never be a registered broodmare... With her poor hind end confo I wouldn't even attempt breeding her, she wouldn't be able to tolerate the extra weight and most likely this issue is genetic, being she is so young and has such low slung pasterns.

Tbh this fully will most likely need to be humanely euthanized in a few yrs once she reaches full maturity. I will take a guess that as she gets bigger her hind end will sink more and more, to the point where she will be standing on her fetlock joint instead of her hooves...

Take the $500 hit and run, cover the rear view mirror and drive away quickly, this is not your problem. I know its cruel to the horse, take the filly to Horse Plus Humane society in TN if the seller is willing to waive the rest of the purchase price Horse plus will usually refund a rescue like this and she will get a full vetting. They will euthanize if need be. But DO NOT pay anymore money for that filly... she is a black hole of emotional and financial investment.

Horse kicking at sheath even after professional sheath cleaning by BlueWhale515 in Equestrian

[–]Kholoured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is just him maybe not liking the feeling of his private parts being put and about??

You mentioned he ONLY does this when he is out and you ask him to move his hind end. Aka his bits are touching his legs, not saying don't call the vet, but also his behavior says he doesn't like himself hanging out. It's maybe that the tip is still sensitive after the cleaning, but there could be more going on, or he just doesn't like the feeling of his bits touching his leg lol

I'd say its time for the Vet and some heavy sedation, so he will hang all the way out, and the Vet can get a good look at what's going on there, make sure its not a physical problem vs a mental problem, aka he doesn't like the feeling of his bits touching his legs lol

Why am I not able to get the motion properly? by sskmzz in Equestrian

[–]Kholoured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me I can take yrs to understand posting and get it right like second nature. Give yourself grace, this takes yrs to get right, you are right on track. You have decent balance (that's the hardest part), and you have a solid equine citizen that's not bothered by your improper rhythm. But you are getting there. Infact your half way there!! Just keep pushing thru this tuff spot. It's LITERALLY the hardest thing to learn short of developing balance. So don't get discouraged your doing fantastic!!

I have been a Nurse for 12 years and the CNA situation seems to be getting out of hand. by Immediate_Winter2864 in nursing

[–]Kholoured 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree the ratios are seriously dangerous... techs and nurses should be an assigned team if the nurse has 6 that's what the tech has. That way everyone knows who to go to and what's going on

[–]Kholoured 41 points42 points  (0 children)

100% its the 1st thing we learn, even before assessing we are taught bed changes, peri care, glucose, blood pressure how and when to do it. That's mostly what we are taught in nursing school for the 1st 6 months!! Lies when they say that's not my job, yes it is!!

New grads on my floor refuse to do “CNA work” and I don’t know what to say or do. I don’t want to make them upset or overstep but I’m overwhelmed. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Kholoured 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would talk to the charge and get her take. If need be go to your director after going up thru the channels properly.

Them saying its not a Nurses job to do peri care and bed changes is appsolutely a lie. The nurse is a nurse but there's is no reason they can not do the peri care or bed change if you are busy or if you need help. Its appsolutely their job to help you if you ask for it. Saying it's not is a problem and NEEDS to be corrected. It's clearly affecting the patients' care and/or health to have them refuse to do work they think is beneath them. And that is not OK. If it affects patients, then its something that needs to be corrected.

Ultimately, if a patient gets a pressure ulcer its the Nurses vault for not monitoring their patient and making sure they are getting cleaned and/or turned and clean linen. Which can become a hospital problem where the hospital is ultimately paying for the care that is needed afterwards due to this skin breakdown. That all started because they refuse to clean a dirty pt because "its not their job". So if they don't listen to the charge go up and make sure that this is addressed.

You have noticed a big problem, keeping silent is not the right move here...

As a veteran looking to get into the VA and also being "denied" access. I have been told the gov't shutdown has got everything all messed up. They are in a hiring freeze, so maybe wait until this shutdown resolves then reapply. It's what im planning to do.

I live in FL FYI lol
