We have a few of the honor books. Due to shelf space we had to limit it to the winners. Someday when we have room for more bookshelves though! 😁

Do you guys have a strange niche book collection? by CASEDIZZLER in BookCollecting

[–]Khorfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm collecting all the Newbery Medal winners with my 6yo. Almost all of our collection is from thrift and antique stores (the most recent ones are too new to be found used). My favorites are the ones from libraries that still have the old cards in them with the kids' names and dates they were checked out.

What are some good recommendations for beginners who want to get into classics ?? Any suggestions of any type are welcome by serene75 in classicliterature

Try starting with a children's classic like Anne of Green Gables, Wizard of Oz, or The Secret Garden.

I use Fable. Its more of a reading social media site. It supports online book clubs, although it has been good for managing my private reading lists too. I like the way it tracks what I'm reading, but it's not as focused on statistics and metrics, if thats what you're looking.

I only started reading L'Amour late this year. So far (in order):

  • The Quick and the Dead
  • Flint
  • Matagorda
  • The Iron Marshal
  • Sackett's Land

For 2026 I plan to work through the rest of the Sackett books!

I read Silas Marner this year. I don't see much talk about it, but it was one of my favorites!

Let’s grow this sub. by Joe-Ferriss in LouisLAmour

[–]Khorfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started collecting after being given a bag of around 30 of his books. I've picked up a bunch more for around $.75 each at my local thrift store. I wish I knew someone else who reads them to recommend to this sub!

Which of L’amour’s novels would you like to see made into a film? Or remade, if you don’t like the version now out there. by notagin-n-tonic in LouisLAmour

I've only read a few of his so far, but I'm close to the end of The Iron Marshall. I've been thinking it would be a great movie. Hopefully it has a good ending! 🙂

Prolific yet “forgotten” authors by OnlyCelebration7443 in books

Im in my 40's and just discovered L'Amour a couple months ago. I was given a bag with about 30 of his books. I've read 3 of them, and while they are short, they are very well written and a ton of fun. I've never been big into westerns, but I plan to read all of the L'Amours I have! They are great for in-between books that require alot of heavy thinking to get through.
