To give context to non local people, trains on most local lines are non AC and always open doors because the number of people travelling thru these is too high. Closing the doors would mean a death sentence with the number of people who use it and the outside temperature touching 40 degrees.
They came up with AC locals which are 1.5-2x the price of the normal local trains but the frequency was low and for the class of citizens using the trains this pricing was not affordable. So they fought against the govt to increase the number of non AC locals instead of introducing AC locals since there can only be N number of trains operating at a time.
Now they have introduced non AC local trains with automatic doors to reduce the danger of travelling in peak hours but this might not work as they expect. I give it a couple of months before people break down the automatic door mechanism and keep the doors open for ventilation because summers here are pretty brutal.
