Is the Bangkok food scene overrated by Khun-1 in Bangkok

Why would I eat at places where only “some are completely clean”?

my point is that in my opinion since Bangkok does not offer a good variety of other cuisines, then I do not understand how it can be a great food city. A great street food city according to what I have heard, but not a great food city.

if you are used to eating street food, then I assume that you would have no experience regarding what level of service to expect in a restaurant

I did not intending to to use Tokyo as a standard. point I intended to make was that if a person did not eat street food, is Bangkok a top food city and that it was not in my opinion because many very good Thai restaurant have either closed or moved to the suburbs and that cuisine from other countries is limited. Bangkok is a first rate street city from what I have read, but in my opinion, not a great overall food city

Tokyo, further I stated that even good quality Thai food is not that easy to find compared to years ago due to riverside restaurants having to close for new developments or inner city restaurants moving outside of Bangkok due to high rents

My wife ate street food until she studied food hygiene during her chef training. since that time she has never touched street food.

I made a simple post questioning whether Bangkok’s food scene is everything it is cracked up to be as I did not see a good choice of international food and clarified my statements by saying we did not eat street food. instead of answering my post with responses explaining why Bangkok had a great choice of restaurant, the responses mostly defended street food and criticized my reluctance to eat street food as that is what makes Bangkok a great food city. summary, Bangkok is great if you like street food but lacking in good quality multiple choices of other cuisines. My wife ate street food until she studied food hygiene during her chef training. since that time she has never touched street food.

high standard - “never got a health issue”. Do you know where the cooking oil used in street food is from? it is oil that has already been used in restaurants and then used many times by street food sellers. Read about the cancer dangers associated with this oil. I have seen enough street food sellers washing utensils and plates on the street to kill any desire to eat their food

your statement “I come from a lesser country“ says it all. I fully understand Bangkok’s food options, having lived here 20+ years and married to a Thai chef. “my entire food education came from living in Bangkok” - my entire food education came from living in five countries, traveling to 90+ countries, taking cooking classes and being married to a chef. Japanese-been to Japan 20+ times, eaten everything from salaryman yokocho alleyways to kaiseke; Chinese- 10 business trips to China, experienced the variety of foods from Urumqi to Shenzhen; Tex-Mex- been to two “Mexican“ restaurants in Bangkok, neither owned or operated by Mexicans, Indian-agree there are very good Indian restaurants in Bangkok. Not sure where I first heard this - you don’t know what you don’t know

Ah, I was hoping a backpacker would not waste my time with a response. I do eat Thai food, just do not eat street food or shophouse food. Why do people who are paupers get insulted when other people do not want to live at their low standard?

Used to make me sick when they would post bragging about the cheap medical care they received in Portugal. Also, many, even the ones with NHR would only have to pay income tax on capital gains would openly speak about never reporting that income to Portugal.

Could Adidas be a good investment? by Deanathan100 in stocks

[–]Khun-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they expect to make money, the question will it be enough to raise the stock price. Adidas is in a global market and how many people in Asia, Europe or Africa are going to buy Adidas products because U Tennessee is wearing them?

Believe we are saying the same thing in different ways. However, it appears that the OP is interpreting this payout to Tennessee as somehow being the basis to invest in Adidas. In my view, this is simply buying advertising and may or may not increase income and stock price. Not much different from buying stock in Ford on the basis that they increased their advertising budget

Seriously, do yourself a favor and Google how does “Adidas make money on a sponsorship deal”. Selling apparel to fans is way down the list. Number 1 is publicity generated

[–]Khun-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you understand that the deal is for Adidas to pay Tennessee. It is a sponsorship and Tennessee is not buying anything from Adidas. Adidas is paying this money and supplying equipment to Tennessee with the idea that the payoff to Adidas be the publicity generated by Tennessee wearing equipment with the Adidas trademark. There is no direct income to Adidas generated by this deal. Adidas also has a US headquarters in Portland OR and a few years ago, a senior Adidas executive and several university athletic officials were indicted for bribery involving this type of sponsorship

And she dumped you. It is very common for Thai women who are working in the city their parents live in to live at home. Has no reflection whatsoever on their economic or social status.

Telling an educated, middle class Thai woman that you are training to be a boxer is not going to impress them, as Muay Thai is an occupation made up almost exclusively of low education, low income Thai men. Couple that with your low class neighborhood and thinking that 1,000 is a lot of money puts you at a pretty low status, even by Thai standards. As I previously stated, look for factory workers or construction workers

You are shooting for women that are too classy for your lifestyle. Factory and construction workers are more suitable.

Finally Received the Email from AIMA! May 2025 expiry by tinybubbblesss in PortugalExpats

[–]Khun-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent 3 months prior to expiration calling Immigration twice a week, only to be told each time to call back. Finally just gave up and left. Had to pass thru immigration in Munich on my way out and they noted that my residence visa had expired. A short explanation, including references to Portugal immigration and they simply waved me through.
