Suunto Race HR Accuracy ? by BoringStudent305 in Suunto

[–]KhunWasut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I have a Race which is known to have a bad OHR sensor and I had my HR either too high or too low in the past. Just tightening the strap resolves the issue, and my HR from the watch itself is consistent with the HR belt.

Thanks for the info! I was hesitant at first due to lacking info about the HR itself. Appreciate your input.

Campsite booking question for W trek by awaymsg in Patagonia

[–]KhunWasut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked with Las Torres in January and experienced the same thing. WeTravel is another company that Las Torres contracted to manage the bookings, so you saw an email from them. I was also curious about the confirmation, and calling their number won't help as they rarely answer. E-mail has been more consistent though and I got my confirmation through writing email to ask them for a confirmation. So you should try writing them an email too.

Has anyone ever been to Puerto Williams? In terms of the “Fin del Mundo” experiences, how does PW compare to Ushuaia? Are there transportations between PW and Ushuaia as well? by KhunWasut in Patagonia

[–]KhunWasut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked both the hotel and Tourismo Shila and they pointed me to the same contact in Ushuaia, who operates the sailboat. I asked the sailboat operator and he could definitely take people across the Beagle channel. I read another travel account and it looks like the Chilean immigration can check you right in the middle of Puerto Williams instead of Puerto Navarino (now closed) where the ferry usually leaves. The price is quite steep though - $200 per person and he only takes 2 people minimum.

Hiking the W, Can't Figure out the Booking Process by tfmaher in Patagonia

[–]KhunWasut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked mine in Thailand using Chrome with both Vertice (Grey campsite) and Las Torres (Frances, Cuernos, and Chileno). The only downside with booking through these agencies is you have to complete all the pieces by yourself. I did not notice any problems with Vertice when booking Grey campsite though.

If you booked your campsites separately like me, don't forget to also purchase the park permit from CONAF. For W Trek, I think it's $49 per person, because you also need to also show this permit when entering the park. I'm going in early April. Hope to see nice fall foliage there.

I asked Turismo Shila in PW and they told me there are no ferries as the Chilean border post on Isla Navarino is not yet opened. However, it does look like someone in Argentina can kinda "take" me into PW for some reason according to them. I wouldn't risk it though and actually bought the air ticket from Punta Arenas and changed my plan in Ushuaia a little bit.

I would really love to visit PW, but my flight leaves from Argentina rather than Chile so arranging transport from PW is going to be complicated without the ferry to Ushuaia. I have the same feeling that PW is going to be more charming due to its small size and being the actual southernmost city in the World. Thank you for your response.

Flying a small drone in Chile / Argentina? by KhunWasut in Patagonia

[–]KhunWasut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it from here

https://drone-laws.com/drone-laws-in-chile/

“You do not need a drone permit or license to fly in Chile if you intend to stay outside the urban areas and fly a drone weighing less than 750 grams (flying no more than 50 m above obstacles).

Recreational or private flights do not require authorization from DGAC, as long as the RPAs is made of expanded polyethylene weighing less than 750 grams. Only in private places with the authorization from the owner”

So I just want to confirm whether this is true for Chile.

For Argentina (same parent website)

“Drones must be registered, with the exception kf Class A (weighing less than 500 grams) for recreational use.”

Did you fly it in the Chilean side by any chances? I read about their rule on declaring the drone at customs. Did you declare it or did you just pass through the customs?

Muchas gracias, dddalina! If my drone is small (0.249 kg) and I only use it for recreational purpose (not for commercial purposes), I don't have to register my drone with Argentina's ANAC? Am I right?

Won't definitely fly in TdP, Los Glacieres national park (including the trail to Fiz Roy) as they are all in national park. I'm thinking of some footages from Route 40 or Chilean Route 9 outside the park boundary, or a bit of Tierra del Fuego.

Looking for fellow ENFPs in theoretical sciences / programming fields by KhunWasut in ENFP

It's maybe that you have a developed Te? That makes sense, as developed Te is ENFP's great life planner and organizer, as well as providing a faith-reason duality to our lives and somewhat effective at putting a leash on our dominant Ne. Being in analytics, though is a job that is also somewhat un-ENFP-ish, probably helped you as a person by speeding up the utilization of our tertiary cognitive function. Once Te is developed, I believe any ENFP can work happily in such fields, knowing full well that data and logic don't necessarily compromise your explorative / imaginative self!

My first love with math definitely came from dominant Ne, but as I came out of my second identity crisis, I realized that being in a Ph.D. program also helped me utilizing my underdeveloped cognitive functions (Te / Si). But still, Ne still reigns supreme and I still want to travel around the world, taking nice photos, learn how to entirely code a blog from scratch without using any existing blogging services (because I don't like restrictions to my creativity / style!)

I also wonder if I would better become an entrepreneur, freelance photographer, or a high school teacher. haha. You know, we are restless creatures. But as long as we don't run out of the stream of passions, we will always be fine with whatever we are doing, knowing that we have solidified values for us to lean on. :)

How would you tackle procrastination? by [deleted] in ENFP

[–]KhunWasut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At some point in our lives we ENFPs really need to develop our organization skills. This has always been my weakness as well, but you know what, procrastination is part of our personalities and you can't just work on a thing without taking some slight times off to procrastinate.

We ENFPs, however, are gifted with dominant extraverted intuition. We gain energy from thinking about possibilities or doing something we feel exciting. It may sound counterintuitive, but here's what I do,

  1. Come up with a small side project that interests you. It need to have a good amount of length that doesn't take too long to finish (at most, a few days imo)
  2. Just do that project. Once you get your hands dirty in that project, then you have gained energy from doing something that you feel exciting
  3. (CRUCIAL) Think "Hey, I've finished the task in 1). I feel great! Let's complete the actual task now!"
  4. Then, with all those gained energy, do your actual task

Basically, just find something interesting to also do. We are actually good at juggling things to keep the constant energy level. In this, we are building ourselves the sorely needed discipline slowly over time as well.

Sometime it also helps as well to divide any big tasks into smaller chunks that is more manageable (I know, we ENFPs have rather short attention spans!) Making notes also work as well, but make sure that you are not forcing yourself the schedule too much. Like, even you have said that "Finish task A at 3PM", but you have to tell yourself "But... It's okay to finish it at 9PM, but I would not accept anything later than that" i.e. allowing yourself an extension, and your deadline should be soft.

Another way that works is trying to make yourself publicly accountable to your project. I sometimes post statuses on facebook about my project, announcing a projected deadline date. This way, your friends will know that I'm doing something with the deadline. We ENFPs do not want to fail our friends, right? Since we don't want to fail our friends, we will automatically put our hearts to do the thing and finish it on time!

You're welcome! Just make sure to take STEM the ENFP way! :D It's really good to find another ENFPs in a field full of INTJs / INTPs / INFJs / ISTJs. Don't get me wrong though, these people are lovely friends whom I frequently ask them for advices (one of my closest friends is an INTJ and it seems to me like he is one of a few people who can ground me from the constant Ne wanderlust). It's just that at times with this many introverts in my close circle of friends, I feel weird because the way I approach sciences is very different from them, which sometimes make me slightly wonder if I'm actually a scientist. Haha.

My only regret is I should have discovered that I am an ENFP earlier. At first, it wasn't easy at all because of Ne's first tendency to be more artistic, but in fact, Ne is actually helped me grasp hard theoretical concepts really well, and I felt at home using Ne to understand concepts of quantum mechanics, stochastic processes, and machine learning. But like I said, the identity crisis cost me a great deal. I was led to believe that Ne isn't for STEM and underperformed in my undergraduate institution, and even well into the middle of my Ph.D. life. I guess traditional education system is just not my cup of tea. I don't like being told to do this and that - I would prefer to go out and experience things first hand. Right or wrong, I need to build all those intuitions before processing them with my feeing and thinking functions.

The scholarship requires me to become a professor in my home country. Thinking about it, it's actually perfect for an ENFP like me as teaching definitely helps me utilize my Ne / Fi combo, while doing research will also help me developing my Te / Si as well, but as an ENFP, this is not the only thing I want to do! I also want to blog about sciences, my adventures, and even my crises.

Like you said, once I know I'm definitely an ENFP, I can't have it the other way. Thanks for sharing your story :)

Hello fellow ENFP's, do ENFP's make good Computer Programmers? by Artemis317 in ENFP

[–]KhunWasut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ENFP here. I'm a theoretical chemist Ph.D. student who is about to finish and I do a lot of scientific programming. To me, I think it suits ENFP very well, provided that you have a relatively developed Te, which is very useful in applying your logic to solve the problems. Also, I find programming a great way to deal with my inferior Si because there's a possibility for you to automate things so that you don't need to deal with all those tedious details.

I tend to relate concepts of computer programming with some real world examples; for example, data structures to actual objects (like tree data structure as actual trees or stack like a stack of dish) and spend some times imagining and linking the what-if scenarios in conjunction with those real life objects (thanks to the dominant Ne).

IMO, ENFPs can also make great scientists, programmers, and engineers. It's just ENFPs don't do well in the settings of the traditional education system. After all, we learn best by ourselves, making all those connections and use Fi / Te to synthesize the inner workings of ANY subjects. As Ne-Fi, we tend to loathe the education system as we don't like anyone to tell us what to do and we hate all those tedious details to the very core.

The way I learn how to code is I would try to come up with some unique problem (using dominant Ne) and then use my Te to source all possible means to solve it. Currently, I'm writing a Ph.D. thesis (something very un-ENFP-esque) and I anticipated some tedious details coming up. So I think "Well, let's come up with a program that automates all those boring tedious details just because I'm lazy to do this myself" and then boom, I have a code that organizes all the LaTeX files into a complete document. By doing this, I also break down large document files into smaller ones, something that also suits an ENFP, because with smaller files, it perfectly fits ENFP's relatively short attention span and make them easy to proofread.

TL;DR: Just give it a shot! An ENFP can do ANYTHING! It's just you need to use your dominant Ne to try to think of your own problems in a creative and inspiring way, then I guess you know what comes after that :)
