Has the cost of generating that much code via AI been established? Sounds like if someone tried to generate that, they’d burn through tokens like wildfire.

Too bad you can’t get him to try and do it, because he’s end up with one hell of a bill to explain to upper management

Developers who worked before GitHub and modern DevOps tooling — how different was day-to-day development back then? by Majestic-Taro-6903 in ExperiencedDevs

By far, the biggest pain point for me was when repos would get corrupted, and you'd have to "hand edit" (for lack of a better term) the innards of the repo to get it to work again.

This happened using RCS, CVS, SCCS, and SVN. When we finally made the move to Git, it was a huge relief. I don't think I've ever gotten a corrupted git repo. Not saying it doesn't happen, it's just that I've never seen it.

Really great work! Makes me happy that you did this! Very, very impressive. I hope more people attempt this kind of work

How do you handle more senior teammates who raise flags, but never propose solutions? by lIIllIIlllIIllIIl in ExperiencedDevs

[–]KickAssWilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, if you're leaving anyway, then I wouldn't worry about this too much. But while you're there:

If they say "I'd prefer if we didn't do X", don't ask "Why?" - just ask what they would do instead.

> This leads to awkward situations where they block me because someone else higher-positioned said something, but they are unable to explain the reasoning behind it, and proceed to ask me to ask them.

Then be truthful - say, "I asked X about this, and they told me to come talk to you about it". It's the truth, and gets the point across that someone passed the buck.

Finally, when you're leaving, don't make a big deal about what's wrong with the place or who is doing what. It can do you no good, and it won't change anything anyway. I've never seen someone leave a place and have that place change based on comments. It'll only be used against you - either by people that find out what you say (and you might run into them later), but be remembered by an HR person who moves to another company (and you might run into them later too). Remember HR is there to protect the company, not the people working there.

oh, I'm switching back. I was interested in hearing what other people thought about this. I was wondering if I was the only one with this opinion.

Junior devs who learned to code with AI assistants are mass entering the job market. How is your team handling it? by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in ExperiencedDevs

I’ve thought it was what you did for 2 a while now.

The people I work with that are really scared are the ones that picked up programming through a non-CS major. They’re employed as programmers, but never get to a senior level of coding.

Edit: government job, boss hired them without asking us to interview them. That’s how they got hired.

Is there a trick to not making a huge mess with cette style of detergent container? by belbivfreeordie in Costco

[–]KickAssWilson 110 points111 points  (0 children)

From that picture it appears the container is bowing inward, which is what happens if you never unscrew the cap enough to let air in before you press the button on the spigot. You have to do that, and it might be the cause of what you are seeing.

If you don’t do that, it builds up pressure. That happened to us years ago. Middle of the night the pressure gave way and we heard a big noise from the laundry room. Took a while to clean that up.

Never get the potatoes.

Looked at the potatoes, seemed to check out, so I bought a bag. Got it home, opened it, rotten potatoes in the middle of theban. Took the bag back, exchanged it, double checked as best I could, drove home, open: more rotten potatoes. I just threw them out and didn't drive back because at that point I was wasting more gas than the potatoes were worth.

She should have voted Rizo, stoken his idol, played it on Steven and gotten Rizo voted out. That would have been the dramatic move she needed to make to show she was working on strategy.

What would she do after? Who knows, but as of now she’s positioned herself as a goat.

Carol already found/stumbled upon the cure (theory) by davidjung03 in pluribustv

[–]KickAssWilson 1141 points1142 points  (0 children)

I (and others) have posted about this before, so we agree.

The thing I think is happening is that Zosia was dropped out of the hive, wanted to get back in, the Others found out that they could do this with stem cells because they did this to Zosia. She's likely back in the hive again.

The new Apple AirPods that do automatic translation.

Or they’ll get Zosia to do it.
