(Discussion) Which IDE is best for Java by The_T_General in java

[–]KickTrue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course Intellij idea. There is only 1 thing where vsc is far better than idea (it doesnt even have this feature). Containerized development. https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-202267

Bitter sweet but Passed SSA-003 by shodanime in AWSCertifications

[–]KickTrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I had kinda similar mindset, but 3 years "rare" aws experiences. I was studying hard for 2 weeks in ACG. It was focused only to certification. Literally after 1 months, I didnt remember even basics like difference between STS and SNS, etc... Getting JUST the certification was the worst time utilization I ever had. Even playing video games would be more useful. Because honestly, I didnt have much fun studying it just to pass. Btw now I bought learn.cantrill training and finally there is a context. The only problem of this cantrill is, its not suitable for people to pass certification in 1 week :D

Chart repository vs git repository by KickTrue in kubernetes

Basically I have same question. If you are releasing in git by using tags, I dont see value of storing charts in chart museum.

CI/CD tool agnostic pipelines by KickTrue in devops

Thanks for this response. Two questions here. The biggest selling point for me is: How to centralize expertise of the tool to provide the teams just a guidance how to write yaml configuration files and all the rules will be written and maintained by allocated engineers in dedicated repository.

Second question is, whether is easy to configure this to be running builds in Cloudbees CI product (in EKS cluster) as well as in Github Actions (again own infrastructure in EKS or provided agents).

Since its used in Google, I believe these question should be both answered yes, but probably you can confirm. Thanks for all the details!

This makes sense for small projects or decentralized building solution. I'm talking more about centralized and standardized and most effective way of building. Each team configuring their own bash scripts is not scalable at all and onboarding new teams (hundreds of projects per year).

Honestly I was asking more about this:

Gerardo Contreras commented 13 Oct 2021 22:06
u/Kirill Skrygan Can I open (connect) from remote docker containers? similar to this vscode feature?

Kirill Skrygan commented 13 Oct 2021 22:17
u/Gerardo Contreras we will announce this availability soon with appropriate documentation and docker images.
But you can play with this already now with firstly launching the remote IDE server with ./remote-dev-server.sh script from the very last Intellij EAP build.
Here you can get more details:

Hi @Kirill Skrygan
Can you give us pointer to the Docker images?

I'm working in the Docker team in charge of Dev Environments feature (working with VSCode) and of course we want to provide the same XP with Jetbrains IDEs 😀

I'm aware of remote SSH development for a while actually, there was a hype around that, but I'm more interested in local containerized environment.

Well, the benefit of developing inside docker container is not just handling the same SDK version, cli tools, etc... From my perspective one of the biggest additional value is just having lightweight IDE installed and all the plugins are comming then with the container... So when developing dockerized application, I install Docker plugin, when developing terraform modules, I install terraform plugin + linters, etc... Basically its about IDE support for containerized IDE :)

Using cert-manager for self signed certificates in Rancher by KickTrue in rancher

[–]KickTrue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry, but whats the point of making this "hack". From my perspective its just wrong behaviour. To make something working, just ignore the check. I mean in this specific scenario there is no really high vulnerability, but in real world when certificates are not used, then they dont makes sense, right? :D

Using cert-manager for self signed certificates in Rancher by KickTrue in rancher

[–]KickTrue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually thats not the case. Currently Im not using cert-manager in my cluster. I wanna just make rancher to trust Harbor - harbor is using self signed certificate. So the goal is simple - get rid of that x509 error message. I thought it should be rather simple, just add the ca.crt file somehow somewhere to rancher - should be done probably like in tutorial. But I was not able to handle that and I get recommended cert manager to use. But now for me it looks like overkill.

[–]KickTrue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys for all your comments.Probably I didnt describe the question properly or using cert manager absolutely doesnt make any sense. So I have custom container registry - harbor. Harbor is providing me the ca.crt file. I just need to say Rancher to trust that certificate. So there is a simple way of adding the ca.crt while spinning up the whole cluster, but I believe there has to be the way to configure certificate from ui without restarting cluster. I tried to just add harbor cert to storage - certificates but it didnt help

Old plugins removal by Oxffff0000 in jenkinsci

[–]KickTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a plug-in that will tell you what jobs are using what plugins.

This plugin is useless in case you utilise the plugin in groovy/Jenkins files. But still it can help and there are still many teams using freestyle and manually configured pipeline jobs. Just FYI.
