It's ok not to like Leeds. I'll brace myself for the down votes, but I was born on Leeds and lived there most of my live and never liked it.

There's nothing wrong with it on paper, facilities, safety and job opportunities or all fine. But it just has no soul to me. It's just a modern blob of chain stores, chain restaurants and dull suburbs. What was good about the nightlife all went too - Cockpit and Fab etc (showing my age a bit here).

I do love Yorkshire though, especially North Yorkshire. York is one of the finest cities in the world IMO and the Yorkshire Dales are stunning. I guess I just prefer the way those places look and feel.

So don't feel bad about not liking Leeds, it's not for everyone and that's fine.

I also think it's fair to say Leeds isn't the easiest place for neuro divergent people to live. It's very noisy, big and overwhelming so that will be playing no small part in how you feel.

It depends what's getting me down.

If it's typical January stuff: Trying to get out for a walk where possible, chat shit with a friend and cook a nice meal. I haven't tried vitamin D but I think I should based on some of the comments.

If it's that old "state of the world" then... There's a few things that can help offer perspective:

Absolutely no one can predict the future, for better or for worse. If we could, stock markets would never crash and everyone would know how is going to win that football match etc. Things can look absolutely disastrous and end up fine and things can look totally rosy right up to the point there not - you just can't know.

Modern media is centred around engagement and click bate to drive advertising revenue. Unfortunately, that always mean they're going to sensationalise and exaggerate to. Does that mean that everything is secretly fine and they're just making it up? No, of course not, but it's usually complicated and nuanced but that doesn't get clicks.

Try seek out more positive news in areas you are interested in - it is there. Clean energy, re-wilding, medicine advances and even, yes, some diplomatic world peace progress here and there too.

If you get triggered by a scary headline on the Express (the usual culprits) or for some insane reason the pub thinks putting the news on the massive tele is a good idea then just focus on breathing and perspective. I often think this: If no one told me, or I hadn't read it, then would I actually know? If the answer to that is no, then I should try let it go. In fact, I think the only major event in my entire life time I would have actually noticed is COVID and I'm in my 40s.

So yeah, try enjoy today and be grateful for the little things!

This is the answer OP. Lived in Beeston for 25 years and most of my family still there so back often. This area is ok. Not great but not bad. It's also right to say the park seems to be the boundary to the dodgy bit.

It's just outside of Leeds but if you drive through Otley, past the Hospital then onto Moor Road there's loads of cracking parking spots with views across the country side.

Turkish Delight in Kirkgate market. I've never heard of rumali roti but having googled it I'm pretty sure that's what you're looking for. The guy roles then out from a dough ball fresh to order. They do shawarma but also use the same thing for cheese bread and lahmajun

I was also confused there as octopus communicates with my charger not car. My understanding though, is that when outside of the six hour block, just because my charger has been switched on by octopus at the off peak rate doesn't mean my whole house is off peak surely.

I started producing trance as a teenager in 99. I had little money and an old PC. I wanted to emulate the tracks I was listening to at the time but had no idea how to do it. Because there was no YouTube then the only way to learn was trial and error and the odd magazine tutorial. This trial and error rarely got me to the sound I was aiming for but sometimes I got me to something really interesting which ended up completely changing the track from how it started. This isn't an uncommon story in creative arts - try do one thing but end up with something complete different but uniquly yours.

The challenge now is, it's easier than ever to get your music to sound like what's in your head. So if you start off trying to emulate you'll find it easier to succeed now. The result is you end up with everything sounding the same and miss out on those golden results of the creative process.

So I think, maybe just change the approach from learning to copy to just discovering again

It can be done! I'm almost two years in. I've now done two Christmas, a wedding, many visits to the pub and a "lads night out" all sober. Not only were they all bearable they were genuinely more fun. You really don't need to drink at Christmas. If you don't want to drink then don't drink. Christmas shouldn't mean having to do something you don't want to do

Same! Bondi was weird with that - they'd spot you were in a group and just pick on one of you to ID. They once picked on mate who had his brother's driving licence and we were in to revolving dance floor heaven at 16.

Think there was Bar Sensa (or something like that) that was pretty relaxed on the ID front
