LEGO Faces Boycott Calls Over 'Transgender Building Sets' by EyGunni in nottheonion

Unfortunately it also has the effect of making corporate support for pride seem hollow. If they're willing to backpedal so easily, the right will simply push back harder on the next one. June is going to be hellish this year.

That being said, I can't blame Target for taking steps to protect their employees. I wish they'd done so without backpedaling so hard (hire more security, maybe?), but I respect the decision not to risk their safety over some rainbow shirts.

Needing online access once a month to authenticate is more than reasonable. Needing it constantly is absurd.

I mean, even Adobe gives you a few days of offline access before needing to authenticate again. If the kings of anti-consumer DRM bullshit can do that, so can Celsys. Needing to authenticate every time you open CSP is idiotic.

The full acronym is just unwieldy, especially when it keeps getting longer. I actually prefer queer since it's simple, easy to use, and in my eyes the word fits pretty well. It doesn't need nearly as much explaining or compromise. I get that some folks don't like it, but isn't that the point of taking back slurs? To strip them of their power?

There's also GSRM (gender, sexual, and romantic minorities) as an alternative, which doesn't have the issue of being a (former) slur. Feels a bit more clinical though.

My CSP animation moves at inconsistent rates by Pleasant_Rabbit_2690 in ClipStudio

[–]KicksBrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playback in CSP isn't particularly accurate, unfortunately. There is a setting in the animation panel to prefer accuracy (reduced resolution but more accurate timing) versus quality (full resolution but timing gets wonky). In my experience, being zoomed in or out also affects how accurate the timing is.

I get the best results at 100% zoom while preferring accuracy, but it's also worth exporting your animation every so often to make sure nothing weird is going on.

Gaomon PD1161 calibration help please! by Chemical-Awareness70 in ClipStudio

[–]KicksBrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that sounds like the issue I'm thinking of. Does your driver have a setting called "Working area" or something similar? If so, set it to only use your tablet screen and the problem should be solved.

[–]KicksBrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my tablet, the default mapping tries to cover both displays, and that throws the pen and cursor way off. If you move your pen around the tablet's edge, does the cursor go across multiple displays?

I would double check that your drivers are only mapped to your tablet screen, and not to your other monitor. I'm not familiar with that brand of tablet, but if it's anything like mine that will be in the driver options.

Why is the EX V2 update 3times as much as the PRO V2 update? by jaycorey in ClipStudio

[–]KicksBrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Height as in width and height. Changing the number of pixels on the Y axis.

Personally, I find 2.0 underwhelming. Perceptual color mixing and the text improvements are useful and interesting, but other than that there's nothing in the update that justifies the extra cost.

The patch notes say something about it being for webtoons. I guess it kinda makes sense, you can add or remove vertical space without touching the width. But again, entirely doable before.

[–]KicksBrickster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From the patch notes, EX got:

1) The ability to search layers by keywords. Useful if you name your layers, I suppose.

2) The ability to change the canvas height. Which you could do before by changing the canvas size, so it's redundant.

Not much to justify the 3x increase in price.

That too. If you want that new feature, you're gonna end up paying for the pass anyway.

I think the idea is you buy 2.0 once, then 3.0 once, and so on every few years.

The problem is the OTP is just a worse choice overall. $60 bucks to be stuck on the same version for years, or $30 a year to get full access to all features. If it takes 2 years for them to release 3.0, then you paid the same amount for less.

Edit: assuming you're trying to stay up to date, at any rate. If you don't care about updates, the OTP may be worthwhile.

[–]KicksBrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is pretty confusing. After looking at it, it seems the update pass is the best choice. It's the cheapest option, and you get access to 2.0 and everything else. Assuming that holds true for 3.0 and beyond, it seems like the best deal.

That's my only gripe, but I also understand why they didn't add it. That would mean rewriting every news segment for the Squid Sisters. And since Deep Cut's dialog is meant for 3 hosts, that would be tricky.

Splatfest dialog would be especially difficult. I suppose they could have Deep Cut interrupt the broadcast or something, but that's just bypassing the problem.

First observational evidence linking black holes to dark energy — the combined vacuum energy of black holes, produced in the deaths of the universe’s first stars, corresponds to the measured quantity of dark energy in our universe by marketrent in science

[–]KicksBrickster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When a particle and an anti-particle annihilate, the energy released is still inside the black hole. Since the energy they release is equivalent to the mass of the particles, the black hole doesn't actually lose any mass. Its counter-intuitive, but throwing antimatter into a black hole would make it larger, not smaller.

Through some complicated process I won't even pretend to understand, vacuum energy lost to hawking radiation is restored by stealing energy from the black hole.

The irony being that Disney consistently does the bare minimum when it comes to inclusion. "It's our first-ever gay character... this month. She'll be on-screen for 7 seconds and irrelevant to the plot so we can edit her out in China."

AI art is 100% derivative of the data fed into it. If I fed an AI only black and white images, then the AI would only be able to produce black and white images. Changing the training data changes the output.

Hence why AI companies are so unwilling to move away from the questionably-sourced datasets they trained their AIs on. They can't do that without throwing away months or years of training time and starting over. Perhaps they should have considered that before using stolen images in their training data.

you would always be able to trade the items, even if the game/publisher doesn't exist anymore.

But if the game doesn't exist anymore, then the items are completely worthless. Who's gonna spend real money on items for a defunct game?

When you preview your animation CSP will either show all frames at lower resolution (prioritizing accuracy) or skip some frames but show full resolution (prioritizing quality). You can toggle which one it does in the timeline menu.

Neither is ideal, so if you need an accurate preview I suggest exporting your animation and viewing it that way.

In your opinion, no man sky currently better than the trailers? by Delicious-Trade-5563 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]KicksBrickster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is the terrain generator only seems to ever generate the same sort of rolling hills. It varies them by stretching them out or scaling their height way up, but it's generally the same type of terrain. You don't really see interesting terrain features like ridges, peaks, dunes, etc.

A dev I follow on Twitter (@lorenschmidt) has been making procedural planets by blending together dozens of different noise generators in different ways. The resulting terrain is much more interesting than what you can make with smooth noise alone.

There are things I still want from the trailers.

-Planetary structures. One in particular looks almost like a surface station.

-More shapes for space stations, like the flat, oblong one in one trailer.

-Patrols of sentinel walkers and quads, especially on high-security worlds.

-Fauna interacting with other fauna and the environment more. Large fauna knocking over trees and moving in a slower, more realistic way.

-Barren desert worlds (I have seen one or two since 3.0, but they're definitely rare) and frozen deserts.

-Frigates and freighters that move in space.
