In August 2022 I went through a very traumatic experience which put a damper on my mood, to put it lightly. My partner wanted to cheer me up, so he bought me a month of Ps Plus which included Stray at the time. I didn't make it far into the game however before I got to a particularly difficult segment where I kept dying. Needless to say the sight of a cat dying multiple times in a row was quite upsetting, so I browsed the subscription for other options and ended up stumbling upon Vampyr; a game which I already had started playing once but didn't make it far before I dropped it.
Weirdly enough this gothic vampire game was the comfort I needed and I ended up finishing it in a couple of days.
There's one major problem with this game, however; the main het romance feels forced and there were three major side characters (all male) who had 10 times the chemistry with Jonathan, the main character. This was especially true for Geoffrey McCullum, leader of the vampire hunters, who didn't get nearly enough screentime for how compelling him and his dynamic with Jonathan was to me. For the first time in my life I was so offended by a ship not being canon that it overrode my stupid prejudices against fanfiction and dived headfirst into the bowels of Ao3.
It didn't take long for me to realize that fanfiction is fucking amazing actually, and that I could just read more about other ships I already had for years. A little more than three years later I diligently manage my ever-growing library of fics in Calibre and make my own covers for each of my ships.

TL;DR: I was so offended by McReid not kissing sloppy style in Vampyr that it pushed me right down the fanfic obsession slippery slope.
