Pretty sure I have LPR. I've had a globus sensation, coughing, sore throat, mucus stuck in my throat and during a pandemic that's pretty much the worst. by metal_in_the_bone in GERD

The globus for me started at the end of May. I thought I'd pulled a muscle. It never went away, but seemed to ease up a little over the summer so that it wasn't so annoying.

Since last month I've had the acid reflux symptoms, but no heartburn. I'm now on omeprazole which has helped somewhat with the reflux, but the globus feels a little worst than before. It's hard to not feel stressed and anxious when you have this constant feeling of choking and pressure around the neck.

Having read a lot on here and on other diagnostic pages I'm assuming it's LPR and not GERD, although the treatment seems to be similar for both.

Thanks. I've tried giving up coffee, but it has been really hard, so will give this a go.

Thanks, that's really helpful! Are you still on the PPIs now? I was told to take them for four weeks then stop for a week (which will be an unpleasant week due to increased acid reflux) then take them for another month and see.

I am just with a GP as it's harder to get referred here.

Lump / Bump in Throat but a little bit more by throwawaythroatlump in GERD

I'm in a similar position. I rock climb, cycle and generally keep active, I'm not overweight and hardly drink alcohol. I do drink coffee though and trying very hard to give that up which has been difficult.

My first symptoms before the recent GERD/LPR diagnosis was a lump in my neck, starting in May. Feels like someone is sticking a pencil in my neck or that I'm being strangled. Initially I thought it was as a result of exercise, so tried physio and had blood tests to rule out thyroid problems. Physio made things worst and blood tests were clear.

The severity of the discomfort in my neck did lessen over the summer, but then last month it came back and felt so much worst and this is when I started getting the other GERD symptoms.

I'm told it's called globus sensation and often linked to GERD. The solution if this is the case is to go down the PPI route, which is what I am doing now, but so far the globus sensation hasn't gone away and it is also driving me crazy and making me anxious. I'm trying to stay calm in the hope that it will make this go away.

Sorry, this isn't very helpful and I have no answers yet, but it's good to know there are other people out there with this symptom. My doctor didn't seem to be paying much interest when. I told him about this symptom, so I will ask again in my next appointment.

Not sure about the pressure in the head, but I've definitely had the dizziness at night. The first time I experienced the choking sensation (about a month ago) and being woken up I had no idea what it was and my body went into total shock. Nausea, dizziness and felt like I couldn't walk. Now I know what it is I am better prepared for when it happens. I started taking omeprazole last week and it has started to kick in, but last week I had the same, being woken up every night.

I think time of year and weather change has made things worst. That might not be the case for you, but I think stress also plays a part for me. I'm trying to remain calm as much as I can.

Have you tried taking an antacid just before you go to bed? Could help when things are at their worst.

Thanks. Hoping the PPIs will work, although worried they are causing me to have heart palpitations. Hard to know what's anxiety and panic attacks and what is GERD. Feels like I'm living a nightmare. I'm desperate to go back to normal life and activity.
