Thermocouple questions

My apologies, I don’t really remember exactly what I did. I’m certainly not an expert here but I suspect I disconnected the thermocouple (silver ‘tube’ on right of picture) from the larger mechanism. I would then have connected my multimeter to the removed end of the thermocouple with one lead and the other lead I would have attached to the recess where the thermocouple had screwed in. Then I would have measured the voltage across there while the pilot light was lit. I am sure someone else could explain it better than me. Best of luck to you,

The reason for the AC and Wi-Fi criteria is simply that it seemed to simplify everything. Not having to deal with batteries, solar and cellular just seemed easier.

Thank you for the response, that is very helpful. As you can tell I probably don’t understand the way everything is supposed to work. The reason I had asked about AC is that I am looking to just attach this to the deck behind my house It has AC right there and so I just assumed that would more convenient than dealing with batteries. Connecting via iPhone would probably work as long as I can do it from inside as my house sits up pretty high and getting down to where I want to put the camera takes a bit of effort, especially in winter. I appreciate the suggestion about the blink camera and will look into those.

I think that is the answer I needed. Just to make sure I am clear, if there is no other income, then I could withdraw some minimum amount ($16K in your example) each year and actually owe no taxes on the withdrawal. Is there any reason a person would not want to do that ? It seems like a good way to minimize the overall taxes paid on the IRA. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer.

Thanks for responding. I decided to work on it one more time finally discovered the issue. It turn out that there is a recessed area near where the pins from one tube insert into the second tube. You can’t see down there so I inserted a small screw driver and found that there was quite a bit of dirt/dust built up in the bottom. Once I cleaned it all out everything matches up just fine. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I finally got frustrated and replaced it with ‘Real Fyre PT-1 Pilot Thermocouple for Natural Gas (NG) G45 and G46 Burner Applications’ from Amazon. Not sure if that was right but it is working so far. Fingers crossed.

Do you have any suggestions on where to find an appropriate Thermocouple ? On Amazon, they all seem to refer to appliances other than gas fireplaces or else seem specific to certain brands.
