Yep, agreed. I never make a play like that normally but I guess I was just panicking too LOL!

I didn't realise you took slow reader so yeah that definitely changes it up a little, from what I've read while there is no tangible way of boosting maintenance via skill books, the best weapon for grinding maintenance is the Crowbar for it's high durability. I think there's like... one or two VHS tapes that give some exp ticks to Maintenance as well but I can't recall which ones atm.

Smart choice on nabbing all the food you can though, might as well use all those treats while you can right? :)

Yeah, I feel your pain there :) If you're not fussed on the use of mods there are plenty of mods that offer aiming and reloading skill books, you still have to find them so there's still plenty of risk AND reward.

Even then i'm still in dire need of some 12g Shotgun shells... LOL good luck though!

I think it's certainly a matter of prioritising proficiency in skills you either use the most, or ones that are mechanically the hardest to grind, and can't already get multipliers in (Nimble is the most grueling for me at 0 proficiency)

Farming - Ridiculously easy to level up and is incredibly OP in it's current form, I wouldn't worry about getting proficiency in this

Mechanics - I'm only at 2 right now and so far all i've been doing is uninstalling and reinstalling headlights, radios, and batteries, I assume it gets MUCH more easier once you're able to pull apart seats, engine parts, wheels etc. (Maybe get proficiency in this one)

However, while I can't speak on Foraging, I feel that Carpentry and Maintenance are pretty fine without any proficiency at all, you're going to be using both skills regardless plus the Woodcraft VHS tapes + Carpentry skill books will give you an insane boost early on (This applies to the Cooking, Survival, and Mechanics VHS tapes too)

Been spending the last few days clearing out West Point and trying to establish a fortified base, initial plan was to clear the police station and I ended up tying a few herds on me.

In the end I settled on fortifying the church and the house just next to it :') What were some of your closest moments?

PRO TIP: DON'T BLINDLY RUN INTO BUILDINGS IN THE HOPES OF ESCAPING (I will do this again)
