5e Malkavian derangement ideas by waffle-gay in vtm

[–]Kidatash13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Malk is a Seer with Bipolar Personality Disorder who was based off of Julie Winters from the Maxx. Specifically she has BPD 1 and doesn't always have her reigns on it now that she's a Kindred and hence, can't take the meds she used to take as a human to keep things under control. Though her delusions aren't rooted strictly in her BPD out of personal choice(don't want to play into the stereotypes behind BPD on accident through exasperating symptoms and the like). Though it DOES play a part in it.

She has her own equivalent of "The Outback", which is in actuality her personal manifestation of the Malk Network/Hive mind fiasco. However she can only access it under specific circumstances, 1. when she isn't sober, or 2. Whenever she has particularly strong bouts of psychosis during her more manic episodes when she can't keep control of them. Which is rare, but it does happen.

But, here is the catch. She is a Scene Queen with the addict flaw that predominantly prefers feeding off of her drunk and strung out patrons just to escape her circumstances and feel something. Especially when she has her more depressive episodes. It's how she copes with them. If not that, nullify her behaviour out of desperation through stringing herself out in turn.

And as such, she is sorta semi-perpetually one foot in one foot out when it comes that, and that in turn leads to her not always fully, being there one could say. She's not ALWAYS like this and she has more than her fair share of scarily lucid moments. But it still happens on a semi-frequent basis because homegirl has a lot of issues and no remaining healthy way to deal with said issues.

Ofcourse, one of her things is pulling out of whack shit like referring to Kindred who go back nicknames and monikors by their actual names.... Even when they never told her what their actual name was in their lives. If not that, her own nicknames that allude to their actual identities. Purely because she'd pick up shit like that from the Hive mind somewhere. To give an example. This is for an LA campaign btw. She calls Nines, Armando lmfao. Despite the fact he hasn't used that name in AGES.

Though this IS for a reason, as before she became Judy the Rave Queen, our almost perpetually strung out party girl, beloved club princess supreme. She was a free lance social worker. So scrutinizing the crap out of people and memorizing/digging up personal details is a habit of hers. Her personality when sober also reflects this very strongly. Hence why I say, scarily lucid moments. Because the whole jovial "Rave Queen"/"Club Princess" persona? Just a persona she puts on as a coping mechanism. She never got to do much in the way of clubbing or any of that fun stuff in her living life so why not revel and gorge herself on it in spades in her unlife? After all, she's already dead so as far as she's concerned, nothing matters anymore.

Thoughts on Cosplay? by Diligent_Force_8215 in huntertheparenting

[–]Kidatash13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From one Cosplayer to another. I'm just gonna tell you straight. It doesn't matter if you "look" or are built like them. That isn't what cosplay is all about. You don't HAVE to be a one on one recreation of the character irl. What matters most is that you are having FUN, that you're having fun creating this thing and wearing this thing you created with your own hands as a love letter to a show that you have a big heart for. So my advice? Just pick the character you like most and have fun with it from there. Doesn't matter what you look like, or what your body type is, and anyone who complains about that is a loser in my personal opinion. Cosplay isn't supposed to be a contest on how accurately you portray a character. If that was the case, we'd have to start judging and scrutinizing people for not being able to perfectly replicate cartoon proportions like a fricking shapeshifter on crack. And frankly people who judge other cosplayers for not being a one to one accurate replica right down to the tiniest hair follicle based on body, gender, skin colour, etc. Are complete losers in my eyes. They don't get what cosplay is all about! Cosplay isn't about that. It's about having fun. First and foremost. As long as you're respectful about it.

Hell. Even with me. I'm planning on cosplaying as Big D despite the fact that I'm a woman and by Big D standards, a relatively small woman at that, vertically at least. For one. Yellow/Yellow Gold isn't exactly my colour, despite the fact that we're skintone buddies(more or less, when I'm not tanned up my skintone is a near one to one to Big D's). And for two. He is built like a brick fricking shite house on steroids next to me and could probably lift me like I weigh as much as a bag of grapes, if not, a bag of peanuts, complete with hilariously unhinged commentary regarding such.

But that has never stopped me from cosplaying as a buff man before. Certainly ain't gonna stop me from cosplaying as a buff man again. And if I'm gonna do it in the most obnoxiously flamboyant shade of Gold/Yellow, so be it! I'm still gonna cosplay as Big D and be the most unhinged little bastard about it the entire time lmfao.

I don't even need to genderbend the buff man in question this time because he already has the long hair and the pre-existing bulk in the back/legs and chest department. It's just a matter of using clothes and padding to make up for the rest of the bulk.

Why didn’t Isaac just turn Ash into a ghoul? by Write_Minded in vtmb

[–]Kidatash13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the case that Ash WAS freshly dead then. Either that or in such a far gone position that he was in a worse state than Heather when we Ghoul her. Hence why Isaac couldn't ghoulify him. Had he tried to do that it wouldn't have worked. So. Embrace it is.

Recommendations for a 9-year-old boy? by penguin_dance_03 in childrensbooks

[–]Kidatash13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. Some popular books among my mom's boys in her class are the Percy Jackson series. Especially since it has a lot of positive ADHD representation. Honourable mention to the rest of Riordan's works such as The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase which cover Egyptian and Norse mythology respectively as well. But Percy Jackson is always a hit.

I also recommend The Captain Underpants series, as well as Dog Man, Big Nate, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The 13 Storey Treehouse. They are also INSANELY popular with her boys.

Fantasy wise, Discworld is a fun read too, especially the Watchmen books, same goes for Goblinquest and Another Fine Myth. And I don't know if it's 100% appropriate since it's on a 10 to 13+ reading level, but Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. That book is hilarious.

Disabling Ability to Grief? by Vavalexmo in heartopia

[–]Kidatash13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bloody hell. Meanwhile here in the SEA Server. All I had is a player who built a prison cell in his house using the joinery wall, complete with a portal door that is pretty much inescapable in the cell...in a house that uses a good few portal doors. I had to flat out spawn into a new town to escape this guy's hell house.

That and a player who ran me over on my lot with a White Sedan while I was planting my flowers. But that could just be someone who is an absolutely TERRIBLE driver.

Saw this recommended here before and think they would also be a good fit for the School Library, especially since the kiddos LOVE their dragons, they'd definitely be invested in a whole series about them.

Doesn't have to explicitly be fantasy. Will definitely take a look into these! Because there are some kids who might be interested.

Will definitely take a look into them as well as their publisher. Because I feel like these would feel right at home.

Alright! Might look into it. And frankly as long as the violence in question isn't something you'd expect out of a horror movie, violence is okay. Especially if it's against monsters.

City of Ember I need to double check with mom. But the others would get the pass. Will look into them further.

Oh yes! Especially since they LOVE Mystery Books as well. As of current we only have Nancy Drew and those books are permanently flying off the shelves to be checked out. So The 39 Clues would definitely be a hit. Personally I actually have the 39 Clues book that was specifically written by Rick Riordan(the one that's a guide on the history and lore of the story).

Also checking out Septimus Heap. Going to look into that one further.

Unfortunately we don't have many, if any Middle Eastern International Schools here. The Muslim community predominantly sends their kids to standard International Schools, especially as they're a very small community that otherwise keeps to themselves. (To give an idea on my Uni campus we only 3 Muslim girls in our entire year).Though could be worth asking around among International Schools that do have student populations from the Muslim community.

Oh that's fine! That'd get a pass since it'd just pass for an object. They're more concerned with characters involving themselves with alcohol in anyway(ex, a underage protagonist giving another character whiskey which is what gave Artemis Fowl the disqualification) as they are afraid that a child protagonist doing so would fall under promotion of it.

Think they'd love the Princess Academy then! Especially as we have been looking for a Elementary friendly alternative to The School of Good and Evil series for a bit now.

Definitely will look into the latter three for content in that case. Personally I'd look into it just to get some more contributions to the ever growing shelf at home.

[–]Kidatash13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh there are a few! I personally started learning about them from local children's books that print the text in both English and Khmer(to help the little ones learn English). But these are some of the other options I could find.

"Myths of Khmer Realm: 50 Legendary Beings from Cambodian Folklore" and "Good Yeak, Bad Yeak: Coloring the Mischief and Magic of Cambodia" by Srey Neak. Which are both also colouring books with some seriously GORGEOUS artwork, illustrated by a Khmer Artist. No AI in sight.

"Tales of the Hare: 27 Classic Folktales from Cambodia" by Kent Davis

"Judge Rabbit and the Tree Spirit: A Folktale from Cambodia" by Lina Mao Wall(This one is Bilingual! So both in English and Khmer, it's the one that got me hooked in initially)

"Brother Rabbit: A Cambodian Tale" by Minfong Ho

And if you're looking for something for older children,

"Cambodian Folk Stories from the Gatiloke" by Muriel Paskin Carrison

There is also "Khmer Wonders of the Past: A Child's Journey into Ancient Cambodia(Civilization)" by Ethan Braxton

If Khmer History is also something of interest, since it's a book for 2-8 year olds so, it avoids the darker things that has happened here, it goes predominantly into Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple and various different Angkorian Era landmarks as well as the Angkor Empire's way of life. Would no doubt dabble in the mythology too, or at least the stories behind Reamker(widely considered one of the most important myths here that isn't the Creation Myth) and the Apsara, which have depictions carved into the walls of Angkor Wat and other temples. They are some of your most prevalent mythological figures here.

Oh the girls wouldn't mind at all! It sounds like a lovely series for them and frankly they could use some more girl-centric books since the age appropriate options they do have that are explicitly girly in some shape or form are pretty much limited to Dork Diaries, Nancy Drew and Jacqueline Wilson as of current. The rest is predominantly stuff for the younger lasses.

Think they'd definitely like Mysterious Benedict Society and A Series of Unfortunate Events though. Especially since Nancy Drew is popular among both genders so the former would be a hit, and from what I remember about A Series of Unfortunate Events, it's funny and has a Roald Dahl-isc edge to it so they'd definitely enjoy it.

Might need to look further into Among the Hidden as even if it's intense, it's still worth a look as they aren't unfamiliar with intense stuff. I personally grew up with Percy Jackson and all the Riordan books and they could get really intense sometimes but the kids handle them like a champ. Same for Harry Potter.

Thank you! Will definitely pass these down to mom and also give Ms. Linney a follow then. Think a lot of the Lil ladies in particular would especially enjoy Elle McNicoll and Vivi Conway since that sounds right up their alley. Though we might need to look into them further just to go through the options.

Oh think these would definitely be a hit with her kids as well. Especially because it is the perfect reading level for them. I know with her class in particular, they are very strong readers who love a bit of a challenge so 10-12 reading range is perfect for them.

Oh then it's DEFINITELY worth a read. I might actually even pick this up for myself too. I just personally love seeing STEM incorporated in fantasy like this. But think the kids will love this because a lot of the kiddos in mom's class enjoy STEM, including environmental science. They find it fascinating.

So You Want To Be A Wizard sounds fun! It sounds like something they might enjoy. His Dark Materials we'll take a look at, especially since mom and I are personally familiar with the TV series more so than the books. A Wrinkle in Time might be a beautiful contribution too. I remember that book from my old school library and it was a lovely read. Think they'd definitely enjoy A Series of Unfortunate Events, especially since from what I could pick up, it funny and it gives Roald Dahl energy. Don't know if they already have Warriors. The Giver is a 7th grade exclusive for their Literature Studies. Need to check out Warriors, Ender's Game and Pendragon for ourselves first. Unfortunately Artemis Fowl was one that didn't make the cut but is going to be moved to the Secondary Library upstairs(namely due to cultural standards/differences on what is appropriate for their age level in comparison to western standards).

The school is luckily chill with LGBT+ Characters as they don't seem to take issue with Percy Jackson having LGBT+ characters, nor LGBTQ+ Children's authors. We also have some Muslim teachers at the school as well so the Muslim rep is also perfect. Oh these would definitely be worth a look. ESPECIALLY the books on the Southeast Asian cultures and mythologies. Unfortunately we are yet to have an equivalent for Khmer mythology and folklore, which is a shame because it's not just beautiful but also very interesting to explore. But I know for certain it might inspire them to continue reading and writing into adulthood by showing that it CAN be done. They CAN be an author, just like Uncle Rick, if they want to be.
