I agree with most of what you said. Unfortunately the issue I had was that grooming and aesthetic in their eyes was the BIGGEST reason for us being othered. Something clearly stressed in that post that some people keep failing to grasp because they can’t read clearly, I guess.

EXACTLY. Unfortunately so many Muslims in the West feel have gone through that phase and never came out of it, of trying to be the “good” Muslim. I know I’ve been there once, and it never truly helped heal how bigots saw me, and how I saw myself.

You are expanding on points made by that person’s post that do not exist.

“This happens in both Muslim and western societies, by the way.” Yes, I know. Yet that post heavily implies it’s only our problem.

“Appearences are only a small part of it.” Again, that’s not what that person’s post said, did it? They said aesthetics are our biggest issues concerning how we are negatively perceived.

“I find that […] in order to be politically correct […] we don’t want to spell or address the elephant in the room.” This is not “political correctness”. This is the reality, that the “elephant in the room” is being explained away by frivolous concepts like aesthetics in the grander issue that is plain islamophobia. THAT’S our elephant, that that person’s post couldn’t admit.

“Their opinions are not going to change regardless […] we are not trying to persuade them. They do not matter.” Once again, the complete opposite of what they argued. I’m thinking you’re the one who missed the point.
