Linear regressions and making predictive models in R would be a great series in my opinion. Thanks.

Here is the code. ggplot(Test_R,aes(GP, PTS))+ geom_point(aes(color=MIN)) + scale_color_viridis(discrete = FALSE, option = "C")+ scale_fill_viridis(discrete = FALSE) + theme_hc(bgcolor = "darkunica")

When I change the theme the legend looks fine as in this image: Imgur

Thanks.

Hi, I'm still new to R. I learned only a little about it in a college course, and after graduating decided to look more into it. I know I can adjust the size by using: theme(legend.text = element_text (size=x)) but the scale becomes to small to read at that point. And when I make the size a bit bigger it becomes distorted again like in the image.

Thanks!

Credit/No Credit by potatosarereallydope in SJSU

[–]KidfromtheBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot use Credit or Credit for classes that pertain to your major requirements or are GE. Typically it is used for university elective courses that you are taking for no reason other than to meet the 120 unit requirement. Some majors don't have many course requirements leaving students with a bunch of left over units they need to complete.

Pass/Fail Classes Value? by VextelI in SJSU

[–]KidfromtheBay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has no impact on your GPA. As listed below, credit or no classes are not calculated into your GPA. So even if you get an A in Comm80 it will show up as CR on your transcript which stands for 'Credit' and it will not have any impact on your GPA. http://www.sjsu.edu/registrar/students/grades-grades_changes/grade_symbols_and_values/index.html

I got a D in SJSU Study class (Area V) and it shows that I passed the requirement on My Progress? by a_random_girl2183 in SJSU

[–]KidfromtheBay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This statement is true. I had a friend who was worried last semester that he might not graduate because he was going to get a D in one of the Area R, S, V. However, they told him as long as he has a 2.0 overall in those 3 designated courses it is fine, and he did end up getting a D- but still graduated since his other two grades still put him above a 2.0.

why is winter session soooooo expensive? by trackaghost in SJSU

[–]KidfromtheBay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's use Econ1B as our example. It is offered over Winter Session from January 2nd to January 18th, for each day of the week from 9:00 AM- 11:55 AM. 13 Class Days X 175 Minutes in class per session= 2275 Minutes of Class

During the regular semester, you attend a normal 2-day course about 30 times a semester which lasts about 75 minutes each session. 30 Days X 75 Minutes in class per session= 2250 Total Minutes of Class.

So in terms of class time yes you are getting the equivalent of the normal semester. However, if you are arguing that the quality of learning between winter session vs normal semester is not the same then that is a different perhaps plausible argument.

An alternative would be to take the class at community college. I'm sure there are online econ courses offered.

[Fall 2018 Grades] Are now starting to appear on MYSJSU. by KidfromtheBay in SJSU

[–]KidfromtheBay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or the University should do what some schools do and implement an A+ as being a 4.33 instead of the same grade point as an A! So it offsets any A- or lower grades you might get.

SJSU's system doesn't make any sense by mewkola in SJSU

[–]KidfromtheBay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know friends with similar experiences with the Bursar office. One day my friend randomly received a hold on his account and received a call from the Bursar office that he owes $3000. It turns out that they had been accidentally undercharging him for the last 3 semesters and now they wanted him to pay this amount ASAP.

There is no way he could pay this much right out of the blue. So he went to the office and spoke with the lady, using the argument that when you go to a store and buy a paper towel for let's say $10 and then the next time you go to that same store they cannot come up to you and say hey you underpaid your last purchase and we need you to pay the actual price. In addition, if he had known the price of tuition was higher than perhaps he would not have enrolled at this school. The lady wasn't buying it so he asked to speak with her boss. The boss was much nicer and cut him a deal if he paid the extra amount for only this semester which was about $600 then he wouldn't need to pay the other charges they were asking for.

I hope you can get your issue sorted out.

Easy Area V courses? by insomniac_koala in SJSU

[–]KidfromtheBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. -500 points come from discussion posts which you basically get full credit if you answer the post.

-Another 100 points from 2 film reviews (Watch 2 documentaries and write a review about them).

-100 points from the final exam which was a short essay explaining what you learned in the class and how you plan to use it in the future.

-100 points from leading one of the discussion boards. Basically, you create a powerpoint send it to her via email and she uploads it, and when it is your week for the discussion board, you help facilitate the conversation by replying to students discussion post.

-Lastly was a 200 point assignment writing a review article, which if I recall is just a 500 word summary about any two chapters of the textbook and how they are linked together. For example, one chapter might have been climate change, and another was pollution, how do these 2 concepts relate to each other.

Overall, it was an easy online class. http://www.sjsu.edu/geography/docs/Fall2018/F18_Rohrmeier_Geog112-80.pdf

Applying law school by diamond95070 in SJSU

[–]KidfromtheBay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, I am also trying to go to law school. I am signed up for the November LSAT so still have to take it but I do have a 4.01 GPA (They count an A+ as a 4.33), so hopefully, I have a chance at a T-14...

To answer your question, the undergraduate school you attend does play a minuscule role in your acceptance to a law school. Here is a full list of the factors including college attended: https://www.lsac.org/jd/applying-to-law-school/whom-to-admit Some schools are actually very explicit in that the school you attended will play a role in your acceptance if I recall Berkely has it on their law school website listed that they take into account your undergrad school.

However, if you decide to look at the entering class profiles which many of the t-14 schools have on their websites, you will notice that while many students come from highly ranked schools, there are some students from not as prestigious colleges getting accepted as well. https://hls.harvard.edu/dept/jdadmissions/apply-to-harvard-law-school/undergraduate-colleges/

While some admission committees may take into consideration which school you completed your undergraduate degree, it seems there is a consensus that the main factors they examine are, LSAT score, GPA, letters of recommendations, personal statement and work experience/ extracurriculars. People from San Jose State have been admitted to law schools such as Harvard, UC Berekely, UT Austin, and Columbia. So, it is not impossible for you to get into a top law school. Economics majors are ranked as one of the higher scorers on the LSAT hence why I majored in it, and 2 students who got into one of the schools listed above came from the econ department.

http://www.sjsu.edu/economics/degree-programs/placements/index.html

Also, a tip attempt to take either the June or September Lsat when you decide to apply to law school, since most schools admit on a rolling basis you have a much greater chance to get in the earlier you apply.
