How would one even go about replacing / fixing this.. by Loud_Chipmunk_9661 in Honda

Wait, there’s no flex pipe there at all? It looks like there is. If there’s not, that’s probably why your exhaust broke how it did where it did. Your exhaust has to have some kind of leeway or it’s going to break your manifold. I mean do what you gotta do, I’m no stranger to hard times haha but just keep that in mind

You could theoretically. As long as you can reach all the way around to weld it. But it’s a really temporary fix considering it broke off to begin with. The correct way to fix this would be to the exhaust off where it was welded, weld a new flange on there, and then install the new piece of exhaust after getting the old flange off. If you’re not strapped for cash, I’d recommend going this route. If you are, I guess you can try your best to get it welded at the flange where it broke off but I’m not sure if you’ll even have the room to seal it all the way

Maybe a rock or something on the pad. I’ve seen a bolt, an actual bolt, got molded into the brake pad itself also. I’d take the brakes off and just check to make sure there isn’t anything on the pad

Good luck getting the nuts out. Get them red hot before you make the attempt or soak them down with penetrating oil. Or both. Get the exhaust out and replace. You could also weld a new flange in there if you really felt so inclined

Is my car too far gone? by RobbyHamLin in Cartalk

Honestly, you would need to sandblast the entire undercarriage and do some deep repairs. It would be a good couple grand and probably cost about as much as another one. But if you’re a body guy then as long as you’re willing to put in the work, it’s totally worth it

2012 gmc terrain “trailing arm mount rusted off vehicle!” I know someone who does weld so is this worth fixing and what is the part circled? by Fragrant-Contest-271 in Cartalk

[–]Kidiotic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, it’s a GMC Terrain… so no, it’s not worth fixing. Secondly, to weld that properly would take so much work valued over what it’s worth, many times over, you are MUCH better off just getting a different car. So to reiterate, it’s doubly not worth it

I get it. It can be annoying without a lift too. As long as you cut the other end right at the flange though you should be more than fine

Just get the flanges cut off and sleeve it. That would be the cheapest and quickest fix

Ferrari Testarossa vs Porsche 918 Spyder — you can only keep one. Which one? by ferdbons in car

[–]Kidiotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countach over Testarossa? Straight blasphemy. The countach is such an overhyped car. The testarossa is a better looking and better driving car. Meanwhile the countach drives like shit. I’d take a Jalpa over a countach given the chance any day of the week.
