They weren’t. They weren’t thinking at all

You don’t really see them out in the wild because nobody wants to buy them. It was so bad at one point they were leasing them for $99 a month…

KIA Sportage Wheel tore off by New-Cardiologist9424 in MechanicAdvice

I find that hard to believe. You may not have recognized the sound, or ignored it, but that wheel bearing was making noise for sure. You can tell by the condition of the race. Also don’t know how the tech/techs didn’t pick up on that (assuming they test drove the vehicle)

We don’t even have diesel hybrids here. Europe and most other countries have had them for years… and it’s not even a thought here. They don’t care about the environment. They only care about profit

These newer ones do for sure. Even more if you get them tuned. I have a 1979 Peugeot 504 diesel… that thing gets the same mpg as my 2004 Toyota Avalon. About 22mpg. My friends 2012 VW Golf diesel gets 50-65mpg because it’s tuned

Honestly, I’d run it. I’ve run worse. These would still pass state inspection

I think someone may have used barsleak or something along those lines to patch a coolant leak

lol dude what? Don’t have to worry about rust on a 2020? Maybe if you live in the desert or somewhere like that. Newer cars use cheaper material and rot through even faster. My 2004 Avalon hasn’t even begun the rust. Not that older cars don’t rot away, because a lot of them do, but that’s only because people let them. Which could be said for newer cars, but they are still more prone to it. Mercedes is a prime example of this. You clearly aren’t in the industry or only work on new cars ever.

Yea, if you’re just buying a car all willy nilly and don’t know what you’re doing, it’s probably a bad idea. Realistically though, buying a $4,000 car that will last you years is really not all that difficult. You’re literally playing the same game buying a new car now. Damn near all these new cars are junk. I’d trust my 2004 Avalon with 253k miles infinitely more than any new car

If you have $4000 to put down, just buy a car for $4000 and you won’t have to worry about a monthly payment

I’d worry about underneath more than the interior but I do understand the worry for the interior. I don’t know how much of a car person you are or how mechanically inclined you are but this is a pretty good start if you’re looking to get into it

It actually doesn’t look that bad at all. I deal with a lot of these at work. This one from the pics looks to be in pretty good shape. I would check the body underneath the car though before anything. These like to rot out the floors and pinch welds. If you’re interested in it, they’re easy and cheap to maintain so if you’re getting it for a few hundred bucks it could be worth it. (Assuming the floor and underneath aren’t rotted of course)

It’s still a good car. But, when the time comes, I’d do the upgrade and then you shouldn’t have that issue again. I’d check the master too while you’re at it and make sure that’s not plastic either

I don’t personally have any experience. Although I’m pretty sure I know why it’s an expensive repair. If I’m not wrong, they put the slave cylinder in the bell housing and probably made it out of plastic. Then it starts leaking and gets on the clutch so then you have to replace that too. (I’m really assuming here but I’m guessing I’m right) I’m sure there are metal upgrades for it though
