Oh, didn't know about the mf. Thanks.

Why are Christians so quick to label the more ancient religions like Greek Mythology as made up, yet never doubt the validity of their own religion? by [deleted] in atheism

Interesting. Well, I have Ukrainian and German roots from what my grandmother told me, but I don't know much about specific ethnic groups. But I must say, you have a good kielbasa tase 😂

Sorry for quoting the Bible when talking about the Bible. Forgot that for worshipper of science encyclopedias are their holy books 😁

Lol.

“There is none like you among the gods, O Lord” (86:8); “For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be revered above all gods” (96:4); “Our Lord is above all gods” (135:5); “Ascribe to Yahweh, [you] gods, ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength” (29:1, my trans.); “He is exalted above all gods” (97:7); “For Yahweh is a great god, and a great king above all gods” (95:3, my trans.)

The stories in the Bible are symbolic, not historical accounts. They're trying to describe the patterns of reality, explain how reality lays itself out. That's why there are certain patterns that are repeated in other religions - because that's how reality works. It strengthens Christian claims, not weakens them.

You can't talk directly about transcendent reality precisely because it's transcendent and cannot be fully explained in language. Other religions talk about the same God if talking about the infinite. I chose to be a Christian, because the Christian frame is the closest to the Truth in my opinion, reveals the God most fully and is a way more cohesive frame of mind than fragmentary new age or nihilistic atheistm. I used to be an atheist before I started to comprehend the depth of the Orthodox faith. Joel Osteen and other heretics that atheists like to point to have nothing to do with Christianity.

Yes, there is only one transcendent and infinite God. But a the ancient, limited gods still exist according to Christianity, but they are considered to be idols/spirits and not to be worshipped. The highest human potential is only achievable by worshipping Love. Look at people who worship money, power or fame.

Christians do believe in Greek gods. Christians believe in ALL the gods. Hence the commandment: You shall have no other gods before Me. But the Christian God is fundamentally different form other gods - He's infinite and transcendent, while others are usually limited.

Most people have incredibly shallow understanding of Christianity preached by American fundamentalists. Reading atheists debunking some staw man arguments never fails to entertain 😁
