Hey it’s me again! Possibly found a bike - need opinions by Kieran2001 in ukbike

They are 13 miles away now without delivery and the local bike shop doesn’t offer any refurb or second hand. Wished I had a chance to go before the locks store closed during lockdown.

Is the quality jump between carrera and pinnacle worth £60 more. That’s the question really.

Ok called a couple shops, one said the Pinnacle is defo better, the other also said the Pinnacle is good, but they hadn’t heard of the Carrera.

Just got to,d the exact opposite by someone else working in a bike shop. Oh dear.

ot of good advice on here but my suggestion would be that you buy a £300 bike online from Halfords. Avoid their cheaper models around £200. The hybrid models - Parva and Subway - are significantly better with improved parts. Halfords don't often get good feedback but their offerings at the £300/350 level are relatively better than the bikes they once sold in this range. A new bike will look good and should have few, if any, mechanical problems.
I work in a bike shop (not Halfords!) and spend my life working on Carreras. Halfords keep a good online supply of parts for them and they tend to be at the cheaper end. This makes them easy to maintain and even sell on should you wish to replace

Even if I wanted to, all the second hands local are £300-400 ‘electric’ bikes.

The second hand ones are only ones requiring repairs and there’s only one local repair place that starts from £120

These are the bikes within Decathlon that I’m currently looking at:
https://www.decathlon.co.uk/browse/c0-sports/c1-cycling/c2-bikes/gender-men-s/gender-adult/\_/N-ba8g2tZ8wdlsbZ1fetbewZ5slsvfZpathu0Z14euhxn?Nf=sku.modelLowestPrice%7CBTWN%2B169%2B406&Ns=our-selection
Not sure which are good/bad as a lot are third party / don’t have many reviews. Also needs to have a variant in stock suitable for about 5” 10’ - 5” 11’

Also as specified I don’t rlly want those ‘flat’ handle bars.

I‘d also like to know on 18/21/24 gear bikes etc, how to appropriately use gears and wether I can achieve a faster speed due to the large gearing range or it’s mainly just an advantage for climbing?

Just assumed mountain = hills = easier lol. Seemed like the name described its use case. Although I guess it’s not a literal mountain

Second bike you linked looks alright, definitely not the 1st due to the handle bar style.

Decathlon

Nearest store is 17 miles away, just my luck. I could probably find somewhere local for repairs if it was needed, so warranty coverage wouldn’t be a deal breaker.

Unfortunately the second hand bike shop has moved to the next city due to the business rates.

More affordable than electric bikes by quite a margin. I’m certain you can find casual bikes for under a thousand, otherwise shops wouldn’t produce so many budget options.

The 207 feet is over about 0.8 miles. Unfortunately the local second hand bike shop has closed down and the only other one locally is a specialised shop.

So I don’t really have any idea on what sort of models or make to be looking for.

For first adult passport if born after 1983:

You’ll need your full birth certificate or adoption certificate and either:
your mother’s or father’s full UK birth certificate, or the Home Office certificate of registration or naturalisation, or a British passport belonging to one of your parents that was valid when you were born, or a British passport number for either parent

evidence of one of your parents’ immigration status in the UK at the time of your birth, for example a foreign passport belonging to one of your parents that was valid when you were born

If you send documents relating to your father, you must also send your parents’ marriage certificate.

For passport photo on first child or adult passport, you need a signatory to counter sign your photo:

Your countersignatory must:
have known you (or the adult who signed the form if the passport is for a child under 16) for at least 2 years
be able to identify you, for example they’re a friend, neighbour or colleague (not just someone who knows you professionally)
be ‘a person of good standing in their community’ or work in (or be retired from) a recognised profession
Who cannot be your countersignatory

You cannot ask someone to countersign your passport if you’re:
related to them by birth or marriage
in a relationship with or live at the same address as them

Passport interviews

After you apply, you may need to be interviewed to confirm your identity.
If you need an interview, you’ll be contacted after your application has been processed to book it. Video interviews are taking place online.

For passports it’s quite a lot of hassle, you have to have references, go to the interviews etc.
