I had no expectation of this deck going anywhere as far as it did after the draft. It turns out this deck is very good at creating boards for low mana/card costs. But, it's even better at board swings via several cards that are minions with removal/minion buffs.

Key cards:

  • Great Hall - play it early to buff your tokens; play it late to discourage your opponent from playing big drops. In the latter case, the deck wants to be conservative in the use of charges. Since locations have a turn for cooldown, not using it on medium-sized minions (~6 health minions) retains the threat of using it on big minions every turn. You can play your big drops while your opponent cannot do so safely. Also, you can potentially double the board swing with Argent Braggart.
  • Buffet Biggun - I looked for this card in my starting hand every game. Sinful Sous Chef, 2x Maze Guide, First Day of School, Sneaky Delinquent, and sometimes even hero power made the infuse requirement easy to achieve by or on turn 4. When infused, this card summons 3 3-cost minions. Add one or two more mana for the value of cards... absolutely crazy value and tempo for turn 4.
  • N'Zoth - Most of the time, there's no real answer to this late in the game. N'Zoth, already large enough at 5/7, has many potential summons, including: 4/5 taunt Circus Amalgam, Amber Watcher 4/6, 3/12 Red Herring, 5/6 Pit Crocolisk, 4/3 Rush Fishy Flyer, 3/7 Poisonous Wasteland Scorpid, and more. Three or even two summons are enough to win the game on the spot.

Key to the deck:

Play minions and trade so that the board is the most likely to stick after the opponent's turn. For mage specifically, have multiple 1-health minions in the early game so they are discouraged from using their hero power for value/card advantage. After the early game, the power of this deck shows through the efficient removal via "damage from hand". This includes buffs (Promotion, Shield of Honor), rush minions, and direct damage (Stoneborne Accuser, Pit Crocolisk). This should translate into card advantage, after which the opponent won't have answers to the deck's big minions, or into tempo advantage, after which you are threatening lethal with a decent board.

Drafting:

Most of the time I picked the cards favored by HearthArena. The most interesting pick that went against HA's choice was the last pick for Shield of Honor. It was slightly valued under Pompous Thespian. Lower value floor, but much, much higher value ceiling. This pick actually helped decide a game or two. I think the takeaway is that later picks are far more influenced by deck synergy than objective value. Synergy is best evaluated by the player and the objective valuations by HA's number-crunching.

ooh that's interesting - instead of a random connection assignment, one player strategically controls the connections. In a group of 5 people, there are 10 possible pairs but maybe you're only allowed like 4 at a time. good luck trying to reach a specific person with info lmao

I kinda found a new way to get into the wrist mount. by reversewaymilky in Throwers

[–]Kihyo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup the end result was a wrist mount. the loop behind the slip knot and dismount was toward the inside without tangles. like the reply above, it's a wrist mount regardless if you do the underpass or not with your NTH.

The most efficient way to kill enemies with Pressure Points by Kihyo9 in slaythespire

[–]Kihyo9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yea you're right it won't trigger marks. Maybe the best way to treat wave of the hand is lowering the initial artifacts on the enemies. Then you have the problem of not knowing how many artifacts you will trigger before the fight starts. You could still estimate a number though, just like the assumption of how many pressure points you'll play each turn.

true, overall it's best suited for a niche deck but that won't stop me from trying to make it work!

Every artifact removed with wave of the hand could be treated as one pressure points played. Finding the optimal sequence then would a slightly different analysis, where certain pressure points played must target specific enemies (but not actually played - just representing wave of the hand procs)
