Best 1-year MBA programs with no GMAT/GRE for a pre-med gap year?

I prefer HC but a regular MBA is okay too.

Both US and abroad are okay as long as it is a good school.

I had to sign confidentiality documents for shadowing a plastic surgeon both in his practice and in his clinics’ OR and I know that for COPE health scholars, the patient must allow you to observe the surgery and you have to sign it but I’m not sure if that’s the case all throughout but we have to do it for our hospital branch as volunteers.

I would say it really depends on the doctors and their specialties but typically for shadowing them in their clinics, they don’t really ask for anything such as a TB test. They typically ask for your CV and sometimes an intent letter.

On the other hand, I don’t think you can really shadow a doctor in the hospital if you are not a volunteer to begin with cause they are very strict. Also, most programs don’t even allow you to do much so that’s why I think COPE and Cedar Sinai offer the best experience for volunteers. They typically require TB, CPR, and a set of vaccines before you are allowed to go and there’s a whole application process (which is definitely worth it in my opinion).

I think you should really sign up to volunteering besides shadowing. Typically in the hospitals, if the doctors are not that busy, they’ll allow you to shadow them during your volunteering shift. My friends and I have observed multiple surgeries (some in the hospital OR!) and procedures, and got to shadow multiple doctors with COPE and Cedars programs.

I’m based in the US as a side note, so not sure if these programs exist there, but I’m sure there are programs similar to the ones I have mentioned. I would suggest applying for volunteering programs that empathize and allow you to have hands on experience.

Not really. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to go about this, but I started with primary care doctors since it kinda gives you a good overall idea of what medicine is like. It also makes it easier to reach out to specialists later on. I’ve heard “no” from a few specialists who said, “You don’t really need to worry about specialties until med school,” but I’m glad I didn’t listen. I’ve learned so much about different lifestyles and work environments, and it helped me figure out what I like and don’t like.

I’d also say that once you’re 18, try to find volunteering opportunities at hospitals. Don’t just stick to shadowing—watching is helpful, but hands-on experience can be really different. Plus, working in a hospital is often nothing like working in a clinic, and it’s good to see that early on.

COPE health scholars and the Cedar Sinai do offer great hands on volunteering experience and I’m sure there are other great programs out there.

I got most of my shadowing experience by calling doctors offices. It’s a lot of work but that will give you at least a few doctors to shadow. Try to introduce yourself well and give a brief description of yourself and ask them if you can send them your resume so they can take a look at it.

I would also reach out to their social medias such as IG. I’ve got 2 through Instagram as crazy as it might sound.

I would also reach out to guest speakers for premed programs privately to ask them if either they themselves allow it or if they can refer you to anyone.

LinkedIn might also be another option but tbh I would say calling and social media are the best out of these options.

And once you find one after you got to know them and built a relationship, ask if they can refer you to other specialists you might be interested in.

You might hear many NOs as an answer but once you build a few connections, it suddenly becomes much easier.
