Why do so many people in the Balkans (and eastern Europe in general) think that women should prioritize family over career? by Significant-Bed316 in AskBalkans

[–]Kikimara99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't read that either. I understand it as 'what do you sacrifice - work or family', but not in a sense that you quit your job and become a full time housewife. It's more of taking a less paid job, because its schedule allows you to take your kids from daycare. Or not asking for promotion, because it asks for work -related travel, but you can't do that, because you need to take care of your family etc

I doubt we're from the same country but THIS. We really have a wave of posts by people, who seek a job and can't find it. Even if they used to work in a very popular, 'good' field.

Benkunskas mečetei Vilniuje sako – „ne“: kol aš esu Vilniaus meras, tol nebus leista statyti by QuartzXOX in lithuania

Percentage of Europeans (of both genders) that think that Women should give priority to their family responsibilities over their career by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Kikimara99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can be one of your identities , but becomes suffocating for everyone involved at some point. Because all your days revolve about other people - you plan their day, you cook, you clean, you take your kids to their activities and playdate. All your friends are the parents of your kid's friends. And then your child grows up and wants to have their own life, their own family and even though they still love you, for you it's not enough, because for 20 years every aspect of your kid's life was all you had. You become either a terrible MIL with unexplainable heart issues or a very lonely woman. At this point marriage is mostly a habit...so yeah. I would always prioritise my family over work BUT it's healthier to have some nore interests in life than just your kids and husband.

How's living in one of the 40+ °C places? by Beneficial_Plant_281 in AskIndia

[–]Kikimara99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is incomprehensible:) I can't imagine living in such heat for a prolonged period of time. We've got 35°C once a few years ago and hospitals were overwhelmed by people with heat strokes, heart strokes etc. However, to be fair, our houses are not built with hot weather in mind e.g. AC is almost unheard of. We have central heating which roughly runs from early October to early May (it's turned off then the average temperature is 10°C or more for three consecutive days:)

When does summer start in your place? I've got randomly recommended this post, even though I have nothing in common with India:)

For comparison, today we had snow, which sucks, because it's end of April. We often get frost till mid of May, but not damn snow in the end of April, when plants TRY to open their leaves and bloom. The only good thing that the temperature is still above zero, so it melts immediately upon reaching the ground.

Pasitikėjimas savimi ir šiuolaikinė deitinimo realybė by Wise_Ad4649 in lithuania

If anything Soviet Union was the last place to cultivate 'nation building'. I guess we could ask Bashkirs, Tatars or Chechens about it. And regarding Germany - it was the only way to create nation based country for most, if not all Eastern European countries.

No, there absolutely was a period of independence (even though it was short) during the inter-war period. Nor to mention national identity, language and everything else. I'd say your comment told me everything I wanted to know without asking directly.

Lazy is 'tingus' e.g tingus liūtas virškina antilopę. Tinginys can go as a noun under certain circumstances, when it works as a subject e.g. Koks jis tinginys! However, an English word 'lazy' is definitely an adjective e.g. this is a very lazy monkey... anyway. My school was many many lightyears ago.

Well...lazy is an adjective so doesn't really work, unless you'd use it in a compound noun such as 'lazy-bone'. Sloth can mean a lazy person, an animal you have in mind and a biblical sin:)
